The proposed research was focused on the development of a personalized wrist orthosis using PTC Creo for design and FDM technology for manufacturing. The innovation in this approach is the production of the orthosis in an unfolded state, which allows for faster and more efficient production with a lower risk of orthosis breakage due to insufficient adhesion of the layers. The design utilizes a 2.5D Octagonal lattice structure of 40 x 40 mm, rotated by 40 degrees, which contributes to the lightweight of the orthosis while maintaining its strength. Printing the orthosis in its unfolded state also significantly shortened the orthosis fabrication process by 47.78% compared to standard printing oriented normal to the build plate. After the physical model was fabricated, the orthosis was heated above glass transition temperature for 60 s and then formed directly onto the patient's hand, which took approximately 10 s. This forming process was considered simple and intuitive, as well as comfortable. The orthosis provided sufficient strength and the comfort of wearing it was positively assessed. Findings indicated increased orthosis integrity when printing in the unfolded state, a significant improvement over standard FDM printing. The benefits are innovative design, improved efficiency of the manufacturing process, and increased quality and wearing comfort of the brace. Suggested future research includes testing the durability of the brace with different thicknesses, comparing it with FEA analysis, and exploring the potential of using different materials and other types of lattice structures.

Sustainability has been gaining focus in recent years in companies of different segments and sizes in order to create competitive advantages and differentiation in the market to maximize profit and opportunities. Sustainable innovation corroborates this concept in order to create products that have the theme of sustainability in their development. However, inmarkets where the source of rawmaterial comes from commodity products, this practice is not trivial. Thus, in an attempt to differentiate itself from competitors, a company developed a product with a "sustainable" vision, using polymer originating from ethanol (sugarcane). However, is this perception of sustainability transmitted to customers, partners and society? Therefore, this study uses the AHP multicriteria decision-making method to quantify the qualitative analyzes carried out. The results indicate that the sustainability message is transmitted, but at different levels (percentage of confirmation), and therefore, it is suggested that improvements/focuses be implemented in the marketing informational materials.

Non-Pneumatic Tires are primarily recognized for their puncture-free attributes, particularly suitable for specialized vehicles. However, not only the advantages, but also vehicle characteristics such as noise, vibration, and harshness need to be considered in case of application to standard passenger cars. To address this, estimating the vibration characteristics of NPT, considering the nonlinear behavior of the tire and its interaction with other car components, is important for vehicle development and chassis control. In this study, tire finite element analysis combined with the multibody simulation of a quarter-car model is employed. The vibration characteristics of a passenger car equipped with NPT are investigated on a specific tire construction and a car model in comparison to a pneumatic tire. It was found that the NPT exhibits high-frequency characteristic vibrations, although the overall trend is qualitatively similar to that of the pneumatic tire when the vertical stiffness and the contact properties are set to be close to those of the pneumatic tire.

The work includes an overview of the possibilities and needs for implementing the exploitation decision-making process regarding the subsystems of the urban engineering system in the conditions of implementation and operation of the SmartCity concept. Based on discussions on key operational problems, in the first part of the article, the SmartMaintenance concept was proposed. Its implementation allows to maintain the exploitation potential of technical systems at an appropriate level. The second part of the article includes a proposal of scenario method as a solution of exploitation policy modeling problem. Scenarios and computer support tools built on this basis enable effective assessment of the implementation of exploitation processes, which is particularly important in long-term conditions of significant decision uncertainty. A set of supporting tools has been developed to implement the SmartMaintenance concept proposed and described in the article. The final part of the article describes the operation of one of the most important such tools - the SMOPE. This tool helps create scenarios and also contains mathematical algorithms to evaluate them.

Clean water is the most important thing for human health, communities, and economy. Safe drinking water is required to ensure public health. One option to obtain clean water is by being a customer of Regional Drinking Water Company (RDWC). However, the pipelines of RDWC can experience damage in natural disaster-prone areas. Lombok Utara is one of the regencies in Indonesia which often experiences earthquakes. Earthquakes occurred at Lombok Utara Regency in Lombok Island last July and August 2018 with magnitude 6.4 MW and 6.9 MW, respectively. The Lombok Utara people obtained clean water from its RDWC with main water source from Jongplangka spring with total capacity 137 L/s. The objective of this study is to evaluate the condition of the Jongplangka Pipelines Network of Lombok Utara Regional Drinking Water Company (RDWC) before and after the earthquakes by using software WaterNet Beta3-19 version and to propose alternative clean water sources for mitigation effort. Results showed that some pipes have important roles that affect the other pipes at their downstream side. Thus, Lombok Utara RDWC shall consider the simulation result of WaterNet to reduce the risks if those pipes experience damages. Lombok Utara Island has groundwater potential, so drill wells construction was proposed to fulfill the clean water demand after the earthquake.

The assembly process plan describes the different stages to be achieved, from the initial product design ideas until the manufacturing phase. Usually, path planning is generated during the manufacturing steps. However, with the progress of computer tools and CAD environment, the automation of manufacturing lines has become a challenging issue to develop. This progress puts pressure on manufacturers to improve their competitiveness and to react and anticipate since the design phase. Consequently, developing an automatic tool supporting the engineers to generate assembly path planning during early concept phase is highly motivated. This is a challenging task to be carried out in a 3D environment. In this context, this work aims to develop a new approach permitting the generation of multidirectional assembly path planning starting from a CAD assembly model. The generated path should permit to escape collision with static obstacles of the external assembly environment. The different steps of the suggested method are presented. An illustrative example was treated for validation.

This paper deals with the identification of the relationship between vehicle acceleration and driver available actuators. The vehicle is modeled based on how a driving task is performed. The model is constructed using neural networks whose weights are identified using data collected through non tailored driving sessions. To take into account disturbances, the model follows a Laplace distribution. This leads to a more robust estimate of the vehicle knowledge and the confidence we have in it. The approach is illustrated on a prototype vehicle equipped with a petrol engine, plus a device to actuate the pedals.

Nowadays, almost all metallic forming processes can be mapped by FEM simulation. Demands on FEM simulation are becoming increasingly higher with regard to the representation of very fine tolerances, whether in terms of temperature or dimensional accuracy. The combination of a FEM software suitable for the forming process and a connected materials database is a great potential to enlarge these precision figures. In the article, real simulation examples with QForm UK are used to show how this combination positively affects the accuracy of simulation results. For this purpose, several material data-such as flow curves, temperature-dependent properties, or CCT diagrams-and material models-such as the recrystallization or phase transformation model-from the materials database MatILDa (R) are applied. Hereby, the possibilities of material simulation are demonstrated and practical methods to improve individual simulation projects are given.

Material excavated in underground mines must be hoisted to the surface level for processing and distribution. The capacity of these hoisting facilities, known as skips, can be a limiting factor that determines the rate at which excavated material can be removed to the surface. This paper presents the application of discrete event simulation to study the operations of an underground coal mining system to evaluate the impact of increasing skips capacity, together with adding buffers ahead of skips, and any bottlenecks that will be encountered. Different scenarios are considered to evaluate any variation in performance based on the area of the mine being excavated. The results reveal that adding a new skip facility can help increase monthly production output by more than 16% compared to the current levels, indicating a very favorable return on the investment. Findings also show that overall utilization of the skip facilities declines and that expected output is driven by the effective carrying capacity of the belt conveyors. Further research can be conducted to determine the effective buffer capacity and also the optimal effective belt conveyor carrying capacities to maximize production output.

Electromagnetic forming is a kind of high-speed forming technology for improving the formability of aluminum alloy sheets;however, the inherent non-uniform electromagnetic forces always restrict its application into the microforming field. Electromagnetic-impacted micro-forming processes were adopted by using flexible mediums for force transmission. The processes of electromagnetic-impacted rubber micro-forming, electromagnetic-impacted micro-hydroforming, and electromagnetic-impacted pneumatic micro-forming were compared to inspect the influences of flexible mediums. The effects of discharge voltages on the electromagnetic-impacted micro-forming processes of an AA5052-O aluminum alloy thin sheet were investigated by the numerical simulation of electromagnetic and mechanical coupled fields. The numerical simulations were validated via comparisons with the experimental results;these showed that the forming accuracy and thickness uniformity of micro-channels were the greatest by the electromagnetic-impacted micro-hydroforming process.
