Semantic segmentation has been successfully adopted for scenarios such as indoor, outdoor, urban scenes, and synthetic scenes, but applications with scarce labeled data such as search-and-rescue (SAR), have not been addressed. In this work, we propose a transfer learning approach where the U-Net convolutional neural network incorporates ResNet-50 as an encoder for the segmentation of objects in SAR situations. First, the proposed model is trained and validated with 19 classes of the CityScapes dataset. Then we test the proposed approach by i) training the model with a set of 14 Cityscapes classes with relevant similarities to SAR classes, and ii) using transfer learning with the self-developed dataset in SAR scenarios, which has 349 semantic labeled SAR images. The results indicate good recognition in classes with significant presence on the training images.

Background: The diagnosis of prostate cancer can only be obtained following the analysis of the tissue taken by means of a biopsy. Given the position of the organ, the biopsy is typically assisted by ultrasound images and the procedure consists of taking different portions of tissue from different areas, according to a map well-defined by international standards. Given the invasiveness of the procedure, the objective set within the Synergy-Net project is to analyze biomedical images in order to guide the operator on identifying the most suspicious tissues. Results: The dataset acquired by the Synergy-Net Platform at the "Vanvitelli" Urology Operating Unit is made up of a total of 350 outpatient services from which the diagnosis emerged on ultrasound, elastosonography, RNM, and biopsy of 50 prostate carcinomas which were then operated on. In the context of the Synergy-Net project, a new convolutional architecture was therefore created based on the U-Net paradigm, designed to perform a slice-by-slice segmentation in DCE-MRI of the prostate. The data processing with CNNs was carried out on a dataset of 37 patients, selected from the initial 50 for completeness and uniformity of the data, all affected by k-prostatic disease, using a tenfold cross-validation in order to obtain a statistically more significant estimate of the goodness of the results obtained. The performance metric used was the DICE coefficient. Conclusion: The results present a low intra-subject variability and a high inter-subject variability, with DICE values ranging between a minimum of 5.8% and a maximum of 60.3%. On average, a value of 35% is reported, considering the arithmetic mean of the dice achieved on all folds (macro-average).

Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) is an approach to animal farming that utilizes advanced technologies and data-driven methods like wireless devices, Internet of Things (IoT), data analytics and industrial automation, to monitor, manage, and optimize various aspects of livestock production, contributing to responsible and sustainable models for enhanced food security. This paper details the deployment of a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), integrating Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and 4G/LTE technologies, to create an IoT solution for remotely monitoring environmental conditions in outdoor production environments. The system is designed to be deployed specifically in pastured poultry farming using mobile chicken coops, emphasizing a farming approach that prioritizes the well-being of the poultry by providing access to open fields with vegetation. The system captures parameters like temperature, relative humidity, and lighting levels through wireless sensor nodes in the open-field rearing structure. Captured data is stored locally in an IoT station within the wireless network and concurrently replicated to a remote cloud-based database via cellular data network. Long term environmental measurements of the mobile chicken coop can be analyzed through datasets generated for an Open Data web portal. The system deployment in a real-world production context enabled the observation and analysis of the behavior of the studied environmental parameters at 24-h intervals. These acquired values facilitate comparisons between the ideal environmental levels and the actual conditions experienced by the birds in the rearing space. This, in turn, can aid the decision-making process for implementing corrective measures, ultimately enhancing the welfare, and fostering healthy growth conditions for the animals.

The BLAKE cryptographic hash functions can be efficiently coded in software but their hardware realizations are not as fast and power-effective as those of alternative algorithms. This paper evaluates possible reductions in power consumption of BLAKE3 FPGA implementations thanks to realization of the binary summations with dedicated DSP resources rather than with logic cells inside the programmable array. The analysis took into account different possible organizations of the method in hardware: starting from the typical iterative architecture (with one instance of the cipher round), derived high-throughput versions with 2, 4 and 6-stage pipelining were also analyzed. The results came from simulation of the designs fully implemented in a Spartan-7 device;they indicate that replacing the "in-the-array" adders with 7-series's DSP48E1 elements can significantly reduce high dynamic power consumption which plagued the standard non-pipelined BLAKE3 architecture, but also reveal limitations of this approach in other cases. In addition to discussing one possible way of power reduction in this specific cipher, the paper can also be seen as another case study of an improvement in FPGA implementation made possible by taking advantage of (otherwise unused) specialized resources available beside the programmable array.

The emergency department (ED) is an intricate facet of the healthcare system, including hospital and prehospital entities that interact closely to make quick and accurate decisions. Therefore, it is the initial point of interaction between medical professionals and individuals presenting an array of symptoms. Emergency physicians face several challenges, such as long hospital stays, diagnostic complexities, waiting times, and appropriate resource allocation dilemmas that arise from traditional medical practices. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the limitation of traditional healthcare methods and symbolic Artificial Intelligence (AI), emphasizing the imperative need for solutions rooted in contemporary AI. The integration of modern AI into the sphere of Emergency Medicine (EM) provides promising insight into the future of emergency care, but few articles highlight these advances. The main objective of this scoping review is to provide the community with the importance of the cross-approach between modern AI and EM by highlighting all the hidden advances, limitations, and progress that can be made to improve ED. We also scrutinize modern AI systems, algorithms, and their complexity, as well as the ethics associated with using this cutting-edge technology in EM.

This study presents a novel metasampling scheme for Approximate Bayesian Computation (ABC) that leverages a metasampling algorithm based on a straightforward Hilbert representation of an isolation kernel constructed from Voronoi diagrams. The mapping to Hilbert space utilized identification of Voronoi sites to evaluate the similarity between observation and generated points, and the metasampling algorithm selects the points to maximize similarity to observation one in Hilbert space. To evaluate performance, a method competition was conducted using a high-dimensional stochastic Gaussian model with sparse data in the region of interest, and compared to several state-of-the-art methods including K2-ABC with Gaussian, Laplacian and isolation kernels, adaptive sequential Monte Carlo, and Markov chain Monte Carlo. Our method has demonstrated superiority over existing methods, as shown on a 6-dimensional model where, after 4000 simulations, the mean square error of our approach outperformed adaptive sequential Monte Carlo by two orders of magnitude and K2-ABC by four orders of magnitude. However, it should be noted that the metasampling method requires significantly more computational time per simulation step compared to kernel-based methods. The results obtained show the high accuracy of our proposed method, especially in scenarios with non-uniformly distributed datasets and models of this kind, indicating that it can be applied in genetic data analysis, which is a challenging area for future research. In the context of the current study, we applied the method to one example of a branching process model simulating personalized cancer cell evolution, where the posterior distribution of the personalized genetic parameters is located around the observation, contrasting with the kernel approach.

This study investigates the digital transformation of businesses in Morocco and its effectiveness in the renewal of management and organization practices. This study, which takes a qualitative approach, collects data from semi-structured interviews that have been conducted with five Moroccan companies that have digitally transitioned and adopted new management and organizational methods. The findings show that the use of NMMO can enhance the performances of the companies as they have been supported by the digitization in Morocco. Flexibility, change management, agile approaches, corporate culture, innovation and productivity are some new methods to help in transitioning. Still, Moroccan companies can leverage agile & digital principles in order to better capture the co-evolving demands of customers, foster innovation, and ultimately, improve productivity, through faster, adaptive capabilities. The practical implications of the research offer relevant indicators for managers of Moroccan companies, allowing them to adopt NMMO in the era of digitization in order to meet the requirements and performance of companies. The originality of the study lies in its innovative contribution to both theory and practice. It sheds new light on the benefits of digital transformation and its effect on organizational and managerial change and business performance, offering valuable insights for research and managerial practice.

Mobile robot navigation has gained increasing interest in academical and industrial fields. Navigation task mainly consists of three main parts including object detection and mapping, path planning and motion execution [1]. Various sensors exist which separately or in fusion can acquire different kind of information from surrounding environment recognizing distances, shapes, colors etc. Nevertheless, navigation tasks are becoming more difficult requiring to adjust to varying static and dynamic obstacles and unknown environments. To efficiently deal with adaptive navigation tasks it is important not only to acquire correct data from environment but also to process this data using algorithms for path planning. Adaptivity challenges classical path planning methods like potential field histogram (PFH), visual graph (VG) and Dijkstra [2] and require to look into heuristic methods and in some cases the use of artificial intelligence. This paper contains a review of classical and heuristic methods of path planning and possible combinations analyzing main advantages and disadvantages. Moreover, taking into account presented analysis specific obstacle detection and path planning method is presented for autonomous mobile robot used to navigate in under soil tunnels. Finally, conclusions and research situations are presented.

Nowadays the concept of digitalization and Industry 4.0 is more and more important, and organizations must improve and adapt their processes and systems in order to keep up to date with the latest paradigm. In this context, there are multiple developed Maturity Models (MMs) to help companies on the processes of evaluating their digital maturity and defining a roadmap to achieve their full potential. However, this is a subject in constant evolution and most of the available MMs don't fill all the needs that a company might have in its transformation process. Thus, European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIH) arose to support companies on the process of responding to digital challenges and becoming more competitive. Supported by the European Commission and the Digital Transformation Accelerator, they use tools to measure the digital maturity progress of their customers. This paper analyzes several MMs publicly available and compares them to the guidelines provided to the EDIH.

Artificial intelligence (AI) breakthroughs have revolutionized various fields. It is altering the ways businesses generate ideas by improving human creativity and problem-solving capabilities. This paper carries out an extensive literature review to explore the current state of the art of the most relevant trends addressing how artificial intelligence supports idea generation. The findings are split into two sections. The descriptive analysis section examines the evolution of AI-driven idea-generation research, the geographical distribution of research, key authors who have made significant contributions to the field, the top journals and conferences that publish in the issue, and the various research approaches used in the field. Furthermore, this review uses VOSviewer to map the keywords retrieved from the selected papers, revealing the interconnection and relationships between various research topics. The content analysis section, on the other hand, aims to provide a thorough comprehension of the literature. We identified three central themes: the role of semantic networks in AI-driven idea generation, the potential of AI in improving group discussions and brainstorming sessions, and the role of AI-based tools in idea generation (e.g. generative AI).
