Nonverbal communication is essential in interpersonal interactions, and facial expressions are the primary means. The Facial Expression Recognition system is a technique for assessing a person's emotional state based on their facial expressions. The VGG16 model with Transfer Learning is utilized in the facial expression recognition system that has been suggested. The image processing is the foundation of the proposed system, which also includes acquiring images in real-time. The performance of the suggested technique in terms of recognition will be evaluated depending on whether or not it can recognize a single face or many faces simultaneously. After that, data streaming is carried out, during which the recognized face is shown inside the rectangular boxes using the tensor flow library. After the coordinates of the identified faces have been determined, extracting the necessary characteristics from the original movie is possible. You will need the image scaled down and converted to grayscale to identify the emotion on its face. After the facial expression is identified, the next step is categorizing it. At long last, emotions will be recognized due to the combination of data pertaining to face detection and recognition of facial expressions. The suggested model achieves an accuracy of 88% when applied to the JAFFE database, whereas CK+ achieves 77%.

In autonomous driving, a variety of sensors are used for the perception of the surroundings. Commonly, camera and LiDAR sensors are used due to their availability and details in the sensor data. Radar sensors have been gaining popularity due to the radar's sensor robustness in harsh weather conditions. Datasets with radar data are essential for training accurate models for radar-based sensor fusion algorithms in autonomous driving. Perception neural network algorithms rely on data for training and evaluation and often suffer from a class imbalance in the data as well. This paper uses augmentation on existing data, nuScenes dataset to address the class imbalance problem. The annotations of minority classes of train split were duplicated to a specific multiple. The performance was evaluated on nuScenes validation dataset, which showed improvements in the performance on most of the minority classes.

The curse of dimensionality refers to phenomena occurring with increasing dimensionality such as marginal differences in distances. Projection pursuit solves this issue by projecting high-dimensional data into a low-dimensional space where meaningful distances allow unbiased function estimation. However, projection pursuit only considers projections onto lines and the unbiased function depends on the sample size. We introduce deep projection pursuit (DPP) to remedy these limitations by using an ensemble of projections on parameterized surfaces combined with neural networks to solve the learning task. Furthermore, we demonstrate the capabilities of the DPP framework by training principal component curves and solving supervised tasks with interpretable models. Finally, we show the ability to maintain group properties in the projection space. Due to these applications, deep projection pursuit is a flexible design paradigm with various use cases.

Cataract, a cause of vision loss and blindness worldwide, among older individuals affects almost half of the elderly population in India. Detecting and treating cataracts early is crucial in preventing vision impairment. YOLO (You Only Look Once) is a deep neural network algorithm renowned for its effectiveness in object detection tasks. Its speed and efficiency make it an excellent choice for real-time applications. In the mentioned research paper, the authors utilized YOLOv8 to detect cataracts. They achieved an accuracy of 95% using a dataset comprising 1015 images. We have also compared YOLOv8 with cataract detection algorithms like inception V3, VGGNet, AlexNet, and ResNet50. Notably YOLOv8 surpassed both algorithms in terms of accuracy and speed. Key advantages of utilizing YOLOv8 for cataract detection are as follows: 1. High accuracy, YOLOv8 achieved an accuracy rate of 96.1% on the cataract dataset surpassing algorithms, like VGG19 and ResNet50. 2. Fast processing, YOLOv8 stands out as an efficient algorithm making it well suited for real-time applications. 3. Cost effectiveness, being free and open source YOLOv8 offers affordability in its utilization. Possible applications of cataract detection using the YOLOv8 algorithm are as follows: 1. screening a number of individuals. 2. telemedicine services. 3. assisting decision-making. In conclusion, the YOLOv8 algorithm shows promise as a method for automated cataract detection.

The control of the electric machines in an electric vehicle (EV) plays a significant role in the performance of the vehicle's traction system. Indeed, the Direct Torque Control (DTC) approach applied to the doubly fed induction machine (DFIM) used for electric propulsion in the EV's traction system represents an appealing solution to maximize the EV's performance. However, despite the advantages of DTC, it presents drawbacks such as oscillations in the electromagnetic torque. To overcome these limitations, this study proposes an enhancement of DTC by integrating fuzzy logic. The entire study is conducted in the Matlab/Simulink simulation environment. The analysis of the results shows that the adopted approach provides a more precise and adaptive response, significantly reducing electromagnetic torque ripples.

In the article, an alternative approach to estimating parameters in nonlinear regression models under asymmetric error distributions is examined. A novel approach for adaptive estimation is proposed, which is based on the use of second-order polynomial functions. This enables a straightforward implementation to account for deviations from Gaussian idealization in the form of moments up to the fourth order. It is demonstrated that the overall problem can algorithmically be reduced to the numerical solution of a system of nonlinear stochastic equations. Analytical expressions are obtained, which facilitate the estimation of parameters and the analysis of their asymptotic variance. Statistical modeling using the Monte Carlo method was conducted, and the results indicate that the accuracy of PMM2 estimates is comparable to SLS estimates and significantly so exceeds the accuracy of OLS estimates.

The navigation problem of autonomous vehicles in unstructured environments entails the ability of autonomous vehicle to plan an obstacle-free path in real-time between a sequence of waypoints. While there are several path planners in the literature based on optimization, sampling, and geometry, none of them are designed considering the most commonly used sensors, which currently utilize polar coordinates such as LIDAR and RADAR. Inspired by that, this work proposes an algorithm based on computational geometry to path planning step for autonomous vehicle navigation in unstructured environments. The proposed algorithm was evaluated in simulation and its results were compared following the BARN standardized metrics with classical methods. The proposed method achieves the lowest processing time whilst maintaining comparable performance results on the spatial-related metrics. It also outperforms the others on the dispersion metric, suggesting it is a more robust method with more planning options for complex environments.

This paper investigates the possibility of communication between the digital twin of a cyber-physical system and a PLC emulator via the OPC UA interface. A cyber-physical system, CPS for short, is a system that connects the physical hardware part with the cyber part, which represents the system control, software or various algorithms. In our case, we used the CPS systemMPS 203I4.0 from Festo Didactic and the digital twin model was created in the NX Mechatronics Concept Designer (NX MCD) environment. Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture (OPC UA) is an important tool for communication between the two platforms and a secure open standard for communication between devices, defined as machine-to-machine (M2M) communication, where we use a platform from Rockwell Allen Bradley. The aim of this study is to investigate, test and evaluate the success of communication between the different components of an application whether such a system has some limitations with respect to the types of signals and data. Because of the investigation, it was found that communication was successful across all platforms, different signals were tested, but only specific data types worked on the digital twin side, which is due to the NX MCD software itself.

The exploration and drilling of oil and gas are so expensive and takes a high responsibility for the geoscientists and interpreters to make their decision about the accurate place for drilling and this decision depends on a lot of underground factors. As researchers, we decided to conduct a survey about how to assist the geoscientists and seismic interpreters in making the right decision, with some of the underground characteristics that oil detection depends on. Our survey explains the use of machine learning algorithms to find geological characteristics such as Horizon, Fault, and Stratigraphy. The results show that interpretation by using machine learning algorithms has high accuracy and so close to the real seismic interpretations. Finally, it is noticed that there are a few experiments in this field due to the lack of available data set, although the result is acceptable, it needs time and a lot of experiments to apply on this important part.

The Una National Park is one of the most important centers of biodiversity in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Due to its preserved landscape and the wild river Una it has become an attractive destination for tourists and a major driver of tourism for the region of Una Sana Canton. However, this trend has brought numerous threats, especially to water and coastal habitats. The aim of this work was to answer questions about the trends in biodiversity protection in the national park and downstream, identifying threats and future challenges. Special attention was given to researching pressures stemming from increasing tourist activities. It was determined that, beyond general economic threats, the water ecosystem is threatened by the tourism intensity, seasonality, and accommodation density on the riverbanks. The main challenges are spatial planning in the Una river's coastal zone and beyond, restricting construction until the carrying capacity of that area is defined, wherein water quality and biodiversity must limit activities on and around the water.
