Deep learning has achieved tremendous success in computer vision, while medical image segmentation (MIS) remains a challenge, due to the scarcity of data annotations. Meta-learning techniques for few-shot segmentation (Meta-FSS) have been widely used to tackle this challenge, while they neglect possible distribution shifts between the query image and the support set. In contrast, an experienced clinician can perceive and address such shifts by borrowing information from the query image, then fine-tune or calibrate her prior cognitive model accordingly. Inspired by this, we propose Q-Net, a Query-informed Meta-FSS approach, which mimics in spirit the learning mechanism of an expert clinician. We build Q-Net based on ADNet, a recently proposed anomaly detection-inspired method. Specifically, we add two query-informed computation modules into ADNet, namely a query-informed threshold adaptation module and a query-informed prototype refinement module. Combining them with a dual-path extension of the feature extraction module, Q-Net achieves state-of-the-art performance on widely used abdominal and cardiac magnetic resonance (MR) image datasets. Our work sheds light on a novel way to improve Meta-FSS techniques by leveraging query information.

This paper demonstrates the use of macro-action-based reinforcement learning to develop a decentralized game strategy for unmanned aerial vehicles in a real-world capture the flag game. Each agent chooses actions with only local observations. There is no global entity in control of the agents. Multi-agent reinforcement learning enables them to develop an effective team strategy, adapting to other agents by observing their behavior. We compare different choices for action spaces and show that sampling from a categorical output space is favorable over sampling from a continuous action space. All macro actions are implemented with hard-coded safety constraints such that no collisions between the agents or with the environment are possible. We successfully transfer simulation machine learning results to hardware. This approach is particularly favorable for real-world robotics because of the sample efficiency, potential for rapid iterations, and the ability to leverage strong and effective non-machine learned control techniques within the reinforcement learning approach.

In this work we focus on the design of an underactuated anthropomorphic tendon driven robotic gripper with two fingers. The gripper is required to be able to perform strong stable flat pinching and enveloping grasps for a fixed actuation force by maximizing the total contact force with the object. In order to design this gripper, we use a Genetic Algorithm (GA) based optimization approach, where geometrical parameters, such as position, stiffness and size of the joints, the length of each link and the palm, the distance from the tendons to the joint centers as well as the starting angle of the fingers are used. The approach runs the whole grasping process for each individual of the GA in simulation, detecting first constraint violations, and then measuring the contact forces. The optimization procedure was experimentally validated by 3D printing a prototype of the optimal design and showing its grasping capability.

In this paper the problem of the gas turbine rotor stress-strain state has been studied. The paper outlines a finite elements refined mathematical model of the gas turbine rotor stress-strain state and can be used for the various types of ground or even floating power plants. The developed mathematical model takes into account the curvilinear finite elements of hexagonal type. With the usage of the developed mathematical model the problems of the turbine rotor flow dynamics, heat exchange and stress-strain state have been studied. The turbine rotor displacements and dynamic stresses fields were found for several most dangerous forced vibration modes. The calculated data together with the numerical and experimental investigation of this rotor fluid flow and thermal state will be used for the next stage of studies, concerning the rotor creep, fatigue crack problems.

Library service quality has been taken into account after the COVID-19 pandemic to propose appropriate conditions under the rapid change of technology circumstances. The main study in this paper is to consider the evaluation of students' sentiments to understand the role of library service quality after the pandemic outbreak and evaluate library service quality consistent with the new situation. For this study, we employ deep learning models such as Convolutional Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (Conv-BiLSTM) and Convolutional Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit (Conv-BiGRU), Attention and Transformer TFBERT model. Our findings indicate that the Conv-BiLSTM (94.59%) and Conv-BiGRU (94.33%) outperformed the others, achieving the highest accuracy for the prediction of Vietnamese students' sentiments about library service quality.

We are witnessing that technological innovations are continuously increasing on annual basis. Major changes are taking place in all industrial branches, new business methods are being introduced, and the existing production processes are being transformed into flexible ones. All these changes are happening due to the implementation of technological innovations that bring advanced technologies such as: advanced robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, computing in the ''cloud" (Cloud Computing), 3D Printing, Smart Sensors, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Virtual and Augmented Reality (AR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Advanced Security systems, etc. We are currently in the fourth industrial revolution and Industry 4.0, which is still being debated today with the aim of increasing decision-makers' awareness of its implementation and its multiple impact on increasing competitiveness. The paper describes only one of the basic technologies of Industry 4.0, i.e., advanced robotics, with the aim of educating the world about advanced robotics and its possibilities. The implementation of advanced robotics and the demand for it is expected to have a growing trend in the coming years. Advanced robotic technology is supported by the aforementioned Industry 4.0 technologies, which are implemented in production processes with the aim of obtaining simplified production processes, as well as the procurement and logistics chain. The paper analyzes the trend of applied and approved patents in advanced technology, the trend of demand for advanced robotics on the global market, its role in production processes, as well as the presentation of positive examples of the implementation of advanced robotics.

This paper presents an improved nonlinear control law that combines the sliding mode control and the fractional-order control. The utility of the sliding mode control returns to its power in terms of stability against parameter variation, robustness against modeling uncertainties, and ease of implementation. The utility of the fractional order returns to its better model of the dynamic behavior of a studied system to enhance the performance of various controllers. The main purpose of this advanced law applied to the mechanical part based on the two-mass model of the three-blade horizontal axis variable speed wind turbine is to minimize the effect of the chatter phenomenon (which is the major disadvantage of the controllers due to its high-frequency oscillations that damage the considered system) and reduce the value of the peak of the electromagnetic torque. The novel law conserves the same benefits of the other controllers such as accurate tracking and robust stability, as proved by Lyapunov's theory. The effectiveness of the developed control law is compared with other controllers and is shown by simulation results and numerical results using MATLAB.

In numerous industries, the execution of high-rise tasks necessitates robots equipped with climbing capabilities to reduce human risk exposure (HRE) and meet Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) metrics. In response to these demands and drawing inspiration from the climbing behavior observed in animals like inchworms, we have designed an innovative inchworm-like robot. Featuring a 6-degree-of-freedom (DOF) configuration and permanent magnetic adhesion feet, the robot's adhesion is enhanced by the ability to toggle the magnets on and off through magnetic pack rotation. This versatile design enables the robot not only to ascend various surfaces but also to dynamically adjust its working plane-a crucial advantage for navigating tubular environments and scaling truss structures.

In the past few years, the world has faced a rapid change in the digitalization of processes over several different economic sectors. But there are services where human contact is crucial, such as massage therapists, mindfulness guidance, yoga, therapy, etc. In those areas, digitalization and process automation are less important than human well-being. This project was developed in a not-for-profit Swedish startup that creates solutions, including services and products, to help well-being providers increase efficiency in their service. It focuses on selecting and implementing an agile methodology to support the software development of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), with a restricted time and budget. The research aims to answer the question: "Which agile method or framework best suits the studied startup environment, considering the restricted time and budget to develop an MVP and why?". To answer this research question, the research method used was action research. The selection, implementation, improvement, and adaptation of an agile methodology were done, considering the organization's needs, to support the delivery of a functional product that added value to the customer. The chosen methodology was Kanban, and through its improvement cycles, it was possible, with the help of the Product and Tech teams, to define a structure that would help them achieve their goals. It was noted that the methodology promoted excellent communication between the teams and aligned the customer's needs and the software development process. The project saved 14.5% of the budget and ended on time, considering the six months of planned development.

Leveraging the Remote Hub Lab (RHL/RHLab) research group's work on democratizing educational access, RHLab, in partnership with LabsLand, has developed the Remote Engineering Lab for Inclusive Access (RELIA/RHL-RELIA). This initiative introduces an educational tool specifically designed for communication courses, aiming to promote learning experiences in technical education. RHL-RELIA, built upon Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology, offers a novel approach to manipulating radio-frequency (RF) hardware through programming, aiming to promote the learning experience in wireless communication. This study presents an initial evaluation of RHL-RELIA post its development, focusing on its usability and educational impact, particularly for students with limited experience in RF technology. The assessment involved three engineering students testing the system, providing feedback on its interface design and effectiveness in facilitating remote experimentation. The preliminary findings suggest that RHLRELIA is successful in improving the efficiency of completing assignments and making complex wireless concepts more accessible. Future work will include a comprehensive evaluation of RHL-RELIA within a classroom environment, involving a more diverse student population to assess its adaptability and overall educational impact. Future studies will employ mixed methods, including surveys and interviews, to gain a deeper understanding of RHL-RELIA's role in enhancing engineering education.
