Governments have implemented a variety of national and international efforts to reduce carbon emissions to prevent the damaging effects of climate change on the environment and the global economy through the execution of several policies, including the Paris Agreement. Achieving the objectives of the Paris Agreement seeks to keep the increase in average global temperature to well below 2 degrees C and, preferably, below 1.5 degrees C above pre-industrial levels, will need a shift towards renewable energy sources like solar and wind power. As a result of these efforts, renewable energy sources' capacity is projected to expand in the upcoming years. Offshore wind is the UK's leading renewable energy source for power generation. Recently, cost optimisation efforts in the offshore wind industry have been through engineering design, especially with increasing turbine capacities. This research demonstrates how data analytics can achieve cost optimisation in procurement activities of offshore wind projects, which presents opportunities to reduce the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE). Ten (10) offshore wind projects have been selected in the UK offshore wind industry by building a workflow and designing an analytic app using Alteryx Designer. The workflow is built on procurement quotations of wind turbines, marine vessels, and export cables to optimise procurement costs and delivery timelines while fulfilling the established constraints for the respective projects. The optimisation results identified three areas of cost-optimisation opportunities: Contracting, Collaboration, and Reusing Components.

Virtual assistants offer a new type of solution to handle interaction between human and machine and can be applied in various business contexts such as Industry or Education. When designing and building a virtual assistant the developers must ensure a set of parameters to achieve a good solution. Various platforms and frameworks emerged to allow developers to create virtual assistant solutions easier and faster. This paper provides a review of available platforms and frameworks used by authors to create their own solutions in different areas. Big tech companies like Google with Dialogflow, IBM with Watson Assistant and Microsoft with Bot Framework, present mature solutions to build virtual assistants that provide to the developer all components of the basic architecture to build a fast and solid solution. Open-Source solutions focus on providing to the developer the main components to build a virtual assistant, namely language understanding and response generation.

The research regarding Deepfakes has been developing at a faster pace as technology to simplify the process becomes more accessible with the use of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.). Deepfakes are a part of the Fake News area of interest and, as such, have just as much impact on the current era of the Internet as the other parts that make up Fake News. This paper presents a survey ofUKUniversity Computer Science students (n = 179) and tests their ability to identify a deepfake video using their mobile phone devices. The results of the survey are able to demonstrate, with statistical significance, that educated university students in the field of Computer Science failed to identify Deepfake videos even when altered to the possibility that one of three videos is Deepfaked. In fact, while being altered, the respondents gave equal red flags to all the videos and those who indicated the correct sequence were statistically less accurate than if the guesses were made randomly. This contributes to an increasing call that educating the masses may not be enough in the fight against Fake News.

The rise of electric vehicles (EVs) in Morocco's Marrakesh-Safi region and Spain's Andalucia demands a well-developed network of charging stations. This network would make charging EVs convenient, leading to more people choosing sustainable transportation. This study uses a Geo-Spatial Artificial Intelligence (GEO-AI) approach to pinpoint the best places to put these stations. We considered both technical factors and social and economic ones. To identify promising areas, we used clustering algorithms along with the Elbow Method. Then, we used a Random Forest algorithm to choose the exact spots within those areas. Our research shows that the best places for charging stations are cities, including Marrakesh, Benguerir, Safi, Essaouira, and Kelaat Seraghna in Marrakesh-Safi, and Seville, Malaga, and Cadiz in Andalucia. Model evaluation demonstrates the efficacy of the Random Forest model in placement prediction. The outcomes results highlight how RF-based prediction models can improve e-mobility infrastructure not only in the cities studied but also in other African and European urban areas.

A factory environment called the CUBE, currently under development at the University of Twente, is an initiative that merges education, research, and simulated industrial facilities. It will consist of workshops, a learning factory, and a virtual reality lab fostering dynamic and collaborative learning environments alongside practical applications. In such an integrated environment, a comprehensive information provisioning is essential, with PLM functionality as the main focal point. To address the complex needs and innovative environments, a unified PLM solution is needed to seamlessly connect departments and stakeholders. This study primarily centers around the development of an ontology-based approach as the foundational framework for shaping the PLM architecture with the aim of capturing the interrelationships between all entities within the CUBE, thus creating a dynamic knowledge environment through a 'master-apprentice' approach This flexible architecture aims not only to optimize operations, but also to bridge educational platforms, facilitate interdisciplinary education, and enhance the overall learning experience.

Recently, LoRaWAN communications have become a widely used technology within IoT ecosystems due to their long-range coverage, low-cost, and native RSSI-based location capabilities. However, RSSI-based localization has low accuracy due to interference in propagation, such as the multipath and fading phenomena, becoming more critical in harsh and dynamic environments like airports or harbors. A harbor has a wide area with a combination of distinct landscapes (sea, river, urban areas, etc.), and distinct infrastructures (buildings, large steel structures, etc.). In this paper, we evaluate and present a harbor assets localization system that uses a LoRaWAN-based multi-slope path-loss modeling approach. For this purpose, a harbor scale LoRaWAN testbed, composed of three gateways (GWs) and a mobile end node, has been deployed and used to characterize RSSI-based multi-slope path-loss modeling under realistic conditions. Experimental data have been collected over three days in different dynamic scenarios and used for ranging and location estimation comparison using distinct methods, i.e., RSSI-based and fingerprinting. Based on the achieved results, by a correct partitioning of the test environment based on its specific environmental conditions, a decrease between 4 and 10 dBm in path-loss estimation error can be achieved. This path-loss estimation error decrements provide 50% improvement in distance estimation accuracy.

Complex biological systems including genes, transcription factors, regulators, and signaling pathways control pluripotency. Based on their capacity for self-renewal, pluripotent stem cells can be divided into two categories: naive and primed. Rather than being static states, these stages depict a spectrum. Post-implantation embryonic stem cells that have undergone priming have little capacity for differentiation. This study uses gene expression data from unprimed and primed pluripotent embryonic stem cells to propose a novel clustering approach based on machine learning to evaluate stem cell pluripotency. Unique clusters of genes with varied degrees of pluripotency are found and verified by examining publicly accessible gene expression data and carrying out functional enrichment studies. Gene ontology (GO) analysis, which finds enhanced biological processes, molecular functions, and cellular components associated with gene sets, necessitates specialized tools like clusterProfiler for gene expression analysis. It aids in comprehending how particular circumstances can influence certain processes. Another key component is network analysis, and Cytoscape aids in visualizing and analyzing intricate gene/protein networks.

Clinical trial is a medical approach, which is frequently carried out to analyse the effectiveness of a novel drug or treatment in patients. Clinical trials may also examine different facets of treatment, like enhancing the quality of life for those with long-term ailments. Clinical research as it is now practised is complicated, time-consuming, costly, and sometimes biased, which can occasionally jeopardise its successful application, implementation, and acceptability. Machine learning techniques have become more and more prevalent in the healthcare sector in current era, particularly in fields of study that involve human subjects, like clinical trials, and in which data collection is prohibitively expensive. The role of machine learning in each stage of the clinical trial is different. Machine learning can benefit clinical trials at every stage, from preclinical drug development to pre-trial planning to test conduction to handling and analysing information. This paper conducts an extensive review on the various machine learning approaches that are employed in the various steps of the clinical trial process.

Learning factories resemble controlled laboratories for experiments, comparable to the natural sciences. Despite their contribution to applied research and theoretical development, their crucial role in the training of students and transfer to industry is sometimes overshadowed. The substantial initial and ongoing investments, often made by the public sector, make society an important player alongside universities and students. In this paper, the metaphor of a three-legged stool is used to illustrate the balance required in learning factories, emphasizing that education, research and transfer must be equally considered to achieve optimal results. The authors recognize an inherent imbalance and argue for a more equitable distribution to unleash the full potential of these educational environments. Using examples from Chemnitz University of Technology's Experimentation and Digital Factory, the study examines challenges and opportunities and proposes design ideas to create synergy. The sections deal with the implementation of transfer, research and education and illustrate their interdependence. The conclusion underlines how important it is to create synergy effects in order to fully exploit the advantages of learning factories.

This paper deals with creating the approach to the discrete system assigned used for stabilization observation equipment of land moving vehicles. The state-space mathematical description has been created. The system's state and control in the vector form are shown. The analysis of discrete transformations has been carried out. The advantages of Tustin method are demonstrated. The possibilities of MATLAB for the implementation of discrete transformations are studied. Features of synthesis of the discrete stabilization system are described. Features of calculating the quality index based on norms of the transfer function of the stabilization system are given. The comparative analysis of different discretization methods is represented. The algorithm of the robust parametrical optimization is proposed. Simulation results including transient process and Bode diagram are given. The results in the form of transient processes prove the efficiency of the proposed approach. The obtained results can be useful for moving objects using observation apparatus of the wide class.
