Teleoperation systems have been widely used in a large number of fields where the environment is hostile for human. Due to the complexities of the tasks and environments, humans are often still considered a liability to the system. Human performances, major concerns in the teleoperation, not only are affected by HMI, but also interact with human emotion states. This study was to evaluate the emotion states of operators during the teleoperation task. Three tasks were carried out based on the simulated teleoperation system to evaluate the effects of the factors from HMI on subjects' emotion. Human emotion states were recognized via a Random Forest model based on EEG signals. The results showed the background interference and target movement adversely influenced emotion states.

Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) has gained increasing popularity in the robotics community for tasks such as grasping, manipulation, and decision making. In recent years, DRL has been utilized for autonomous navigation as well-with remarkable results. However, most research works either focus on providing an end-to-end DRL approach or conduct an isolated training and integrate the DRL agent as a separate entity later on. This in turn, comes along with a number of problems such as catastrophic forgetfulness, inefficient navigation behavior, and non-optimal synchronization between different entities of the navigation stack. To address these issues, we propose a holistic Deep Reinforcement Learning training approach in which the training procedure is involving all entities of the navigation stack. This should enhance the synchronization between- and understanding of all entities of the navigation stack and as a result, improve navigational performance in crowded environments. We developed six agents with different observation spaces to study the impact of different input on the navigation behavior of the agent. We did extensive evaluations against multiple learning-based and classic model-based navigation approaches, our proposed agent could outperform the baselines in terms of efficiency and safety attaining shorter path lengths, less roundabout paths, and less collisions especially in situations with a high number of pedestrians.

We cannot neglect digital literacy because it is undeniable how much technology is part of our lives. Ignoring it and the tools and services it provides us, which greatly facilitate the human experience, is simply a mistake. Recognising the importance of digital literacy, primarily due to the digital transformation in Portugal, it will be necessary to have technological skills to overcome some limitations. Information and Communication Technologies are seen in this environment as a factor that can contribute, on a large scale, to the inclusion of individuals with a digital literacy deficit, both in the Portuguese Local Public Administration and in society in general. The growth of digital transformation causes almost all jobs to need digital skills and participation in society. It takes digitally intelligent employees who know not only to use but also innovate and lead to new technologies because digital transformation may not be successful without that capacity. Thus, it is pertinent to develop, propose and validate an explanatory model that improves the relationship between digital transformation in Portuguese Local Public Administration and the digital literacy of its employees.

Generative adversarial networks (GAN) in cybersecurity, particularly in natural language processing (NLP), remain underexplored. This study investigates the performance of machine learning (ML) techniques, specifically focusing on predicting spam emails. ML solutions offer customization and problem-specific tuning, making them well-suited for this task. The applied NLP approach employs term frequency-inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) for text mining, evaluating term importance based on overall appearance across documents and frequency in the evaluated document. The framework proves crucial for detecting patterns, especially in the absence of unfiltered spam email data. To address data scarcity, the study evaluates ML predictions on both real and GAN-generated data. The comparison reveals that the best models, trained on real and synthetic data, achieve over 97% accuracy, suggesting GANs as a promising approach to overcome limitations associated with limited secure data.

Egocentric action recognition is the ability of identifying human actions from videos taken in a first-person perspective. In the context of human-robot interaction, a robot should understand the actions and behaviors of individuals towards it. However, video data of human interactions taken from a third-person perspective (exocentric view) is significantly more abundant, compared to the egocentric perspective. Thus, we propose an approach to train action recognition models using exocentric datasets, that can be used in run-time to classify egocentric data. Our approach relies on a feature space, based on skeleton pose information, strategically designed to be consistent across exocentric and egocentric domains. The results show that models trained on exocentric data can be used on an egocentric view without any fine-tuning or adaptation. The system proved to generalise well in the unseen first-person domain, achieving an accuracy of 97% on a custom egocentric dataset. This score was obtained after combining several independently trained models into an ensemble, recognising actions in a voting mechanism. Using ensembles allowed for higher accuracy scores, and mitigated the variability between performances of different models, proving to be an advantageous alternative to using a single model.

The main requirements facing the developers of controlled precision airborne cargo landing systems (CPACLS) are to reduce cargo losses and improve landing precision. Modern theoretical knowledge, computational and experimental methods are used to satisfy them. Leading among them is the method of physical modelling of flight modes on free flying dynamically similar models (FDSM). In the problem under consideration, the theoretical foundations of this method are used to substantiate the possibility of conducting flight researches on FDSM of the modes of separation of CPACLS from the carrier aircraft, deployment of the parachute system and performance of steady-state flight in the vertical plane until the moment of cargo landing. At the same time, a literature review was carried out, aimed and analyzing features of device, design and flight tests of parachute systems of CPACLS, as well as similar design and research work on FDSM. The conditions and scales of similarity used in creating FDSM and carrying out flight researches of the parachute system of the CPACLS. The conditions of similarity and technical feasibility of a FDSM in the task of creating model parachute systems and carrying out flight researches of the considered stages of landing of CPACLS are revealed. The ratios for selection of structural materials, and also determination of required and available values of parameters and characteristics of parachute systems of FDSM at modelling of landing of CPACLS are received.

Additive manufacturing constitutes an exciting avenue in the design of aerospace components, due to the archetypal capabilities of realizing complex geometries allowing for weight reduction. Although several attempts have been carried out to 3D print aerospace components, the number of parts installed on helicopter gearboxes is still limited, mainly due to their criticality. This paper unveils the design process leading to the manufacturing of two prototypical parts installed in the input module of a tilt-rotor drive system (Next Generation Civil Tilt-Rotor - NGCTR - Technology Demonstrator), mainly an auxiliary lubrication tank and a pump case. Specifically, this work illustrates the design constraints which have encouraged the adoption of a pioneering manufacturing process in the domain of aeronautic components. In addition, the approach employed to match these imposed boundary conditions is discussed, alongside with the final geometries resulting from an optimization process.

Reactive navigation task in an unknown environment is a generalized formulation of the navigation task that assumes no information is available on the robot environment, which includes the possibility of recalculating the currently followed path in real time due to approaching previously unknown obstacles and not being able to perform according to pre-planned path. This work presents several algorithms PRM-D* with resampling strategy, simple motion controller, and convex hull-based heuristic, which create a robust navigation system. PRM-D* hybrid with resampling strategy included allows for fast path replanning in real-time. Motion controller processes LiDAR data in a simplified manner, which allows for modifying trajectory without spending a big amount of processing power. The convex hull algorithm was used as a heuristic to determine feasibility of the path and decide whether the robot should try to approach the current waypoint, or proceed with navigation toward the next point.

This paper describes the development of a security and tracking system applied to vehicles, integrating technological advances based on the Internet of Things (IoT). The proposed solution employs low-cost and open source hardware, generating vehicle locking and unlocking functions. A dual approach is presented: control via radio frequency for immediate interventions and commands via a Telegram bot, the latter with Google Maps integration for precise location. Radio frequency guarantees responses of 2 to 3 s depending on the distance of action, while the use of Telegram offers an average range of 12.3 s with a location tracking accuracy of up to 2.4 m, being suitable for urban environments and large roads. Research shows that the effective range of RF control is up to 15 m, with signal reduction beyond this distance due to environmental and physical factors. Even so, the system remains effective and operational for theft prevention and emergency management in vehicles, standing out as an essential tool in contemporary vehicle security.
