People are living longer and consequently increasingly needing more care. The willing of these elders to maintain their independence can be dangerous and a burden for their family and caregivers. Current research focuses on maintaining cognitive function and preventing disability to enhance life quality and independence in elders. Identifying individuals at risk for cognitive decline is crucial since early intervention is more effective for those with relatively good functional status. Geriatric assessments are comprehensive evaluations of elders' functional and cognitive status. They often focus on the elders' independence in performing Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) for identifying treatable problems. Clinicians primarily use self-reported tests to assess IADL performance in elders. However, these tests can be time-consuming, produce stress on the patient and administered too late for effective rehabilitation. This paper proposes a novel IADL evaluation method using an adapted version of the currently performed questionnaires on IADLs independence deployed using Conversational Agents (CAs) to administer them to the elder at home. The CA enables home-based evaluations, reducing anxiety and providing a cost-effective monitoring tool. Integrating Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) systems with the CA enhances assessment precision by correlating sensor data with CA evaluations, offering a comprehensive and adaptive approach to elder care. Information obtained from sensors in AAL environments can be used as feedback to conduct and adapt the questionnaires done by the CA to the current needs and problems faced by the elder.

Retrieving remote sensing images involves efficiently and accurately selecting relevant images from large archives. The selection process is based on comparing the features of a query image with the features of images in the archives. Extracting the most relevant features from both the query image and the archive images is crucial. Image classification serves as a fundamental step in this process. Features are extracted to enable further processing using either traditional machine learning or modern deep learning approaches. Recent studies have shown that deep learning methods outperform traditional machine learning methods in image classification. In this study, the features of remote sensing images are extracted using the VGG-19 deep learning model on four popular benchmark datasets UC MERCED, AID, NWPU-RESISC45 and PatterNet. The experimental results demonstrate that the best performance in feature extraction using the VGG-19 deep learning model is achieved with the PatterNet dataset. The evaluation metrics indicate a precision of 92%, recall of 91%, F1 score of 90%, accuracy of 91% and a minimum validation loss of 0.3. These results highlight the effectiveness of the PatterNet dataset for remote sensing image classification and retrieval.

dThe importance given to addressing the k-target coverage problem (k >= 1) in the wireless sensor network, makes problem-solving spawn diverse domains, such as medicine (chronic disease monitoring and heartbeat monitoring), atmospheric events, such as (monitoring and measuring temperature, humidity, fog percentage, and pressure), and other domains. This importance has led to the proposal of various classifications of target coverage. This paper proposes a target coverage algorithm based on finding the disjoint sensor covers (DSC) to maximize coverage with minimum energy consumption over the lifetime of the sensor nodes used, and a new classification of linear and nonlinear target coverage based on deployment type, DSC and targets number) that enhances the advantages of this type of coverage in WSNs for various applications, particularly in the fields of medicine, biology and drug control.

Machining plays a crucial role in modern manufacturing, relying on automated processes to efficiently create complex parts through subtractive like lathe turning and cutting. However, a major concern in this manufacturing process is tool wear, necessitating a robust system for proactive malfunction detection. To keep up with advancements and meet the increasing demands of speed and precision, artificial intelligence (AI) emerges as a promising solution. However, AI algorithms often require fine-tuning of hyperparameters, which poses a challenge. Swarm intelligence algorithms, inspired by collaborative behaviors observed in nature, offer a potential solution. By applying swarm intelligence to hyperparameter optimization, AI algorithms can achieve optimized models that address time and hardware constraints. This work proposes a methodology based on Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) for forecasting malfunctions. Additionally, a modified optimization metaheuristic is introduced to specifically enhance the performance of this methodology. To evaluate the proposed approach, it has been applied to a real-world dataset and compared to several well-known optimizers. The results demonstrate admirable performance, highlighting the potential of swarm intelligence in achieving efficient and effective machining processes.

In this article, we report the pilot results of a survey study (N = 1036) related to social attitudes towards the early digital heritage. On the basis of the answers, we consider what constitutes early digital artifacts (EDA) and outline how knowledge about them can be useful. We explore attitudes toward the historical and cultural importance of various EDAs and chart the surveyed requirements for their successful and sustainable preservation for current and future generations.

In the modern world, where technological innovations are rapidly transforming society, education plays a key role in preparing students for the challenges of the future. This paper investigates the impact of e-learning on learning and memorization processes and provides a foundation for future research in the field of e-learning. This paper includes analysis of experimental data and graphical representations that deepen the understanding of the effectiveness of e-learning. E-learning tools, which include digital and multimedia resources, interactive methods, virtual environments, allow students to best understand and remember the necessary information, promote individualization of the learning process, which is also of great importance in achieving high learner outcomes. In our research, based on the concept of Ebbinghaus forgetting curve, we were able to confirm the effectiveness of e-learning for learning and memorization of educational material in comparison with traditional methods. The results of the analysis showed that, due to e-learning means, after one month, the students of the experimental group were able to retain in their memory the received information, as well as significantly increase the level of understanding of the educational material, which, among other things, contributed to the individualization of the learning process, self-regulation, and the possibility of choice. The present study, aimed at identifying practical aspects of e-learning implementation, was an important contribution to the field of education. Its results should serve as a starting point for further research aimed at improving the effectiveness of educational methods and meeting the needs of modern learners. #CSOC1120.

In the era of advanced technology, deepfakes have emerged as a significant ethical and legal concern, posing threats to individuals, societies, and democratic processes. This paper delves into the multifaceted challenges posed by deepfakes, emphasizing their potential to mislead, manipulate, and disrupt various domains, including politics, national security, and public discourse. The study highlights the complexity of detecting deepfakes, which are highly convincing video and audio forgeries created by artificial intelligence programs. These forgeries, often indistinguishable from authentic recordings, raise concerns about their impact on public opinion, elections, and national security. The paper discusses the potential consequences of deepfakes, including the erosion of trust in institutions, financial fraud, election interference, and national security threats. Addressing these challenges requires a multi-faceted approach, including technological solutions, responsible AI development, legislation, international cooperation, and societal awareness. Efforts to combat deepfakes involve the development of detection tools, ethical AI practices, legal regulations, and global collaboration to share information and best practices. Moreover, promoting media literacy and critical thinking among the public is crucial in mitigating the negative impacts of deepfakes and preserving the integrity of democratic processes.

This paper describes a novel end-to-end robot visual navigation architecture using monocular gray scale images and a VGG-16-based neural network architecture to safely navigate a differential drive robot Plantroid, avoiding static and moving obstacles. Training data for the neural network is generated in simulated environments using the artificial potential field method. Experiments with the virtual and real robot were performed to validate the proposed architecture.

Robotic arms are utilized in various fields, but their precision remains an issue, particularly in high-precision applications. Simulation and testing of the robotic arm's movements in a virtual environment can improve its accuracy. This paper examines how VE technology improves robot arm precision and summarizes relevant studies. A strategy for improving robotic arm accuracy using VE technology is proposed, along with simulation results. This work presents an improved method for improving the precision of a six-DOF robotic arm by utilizing MATLAB Simulink's VE, Fusion 360 for design, and SIMSCAPE for validation. This approach improves existing methods to enhance both performance and accuracy and guarantees precise control and movement confirmation.

Video streaming become a pivotal role in our daily lives in entertainment, surveillance, teleconference, seminars, and education. Distance education or online learning is the most growing sector that start using video streaming. The video that represents the lecture contents will be multicast to a group of students. The presentation slides will be formulated to a sequence of video frames. Where the sequence of frames is fragment into many segments. Each segment is representing a number of redundancy frames that belong to the same slide. Streaming the redundancy frames will load the traffic on the Internet, due to the size of video data that are transmitted over limited bandwidth and especially during the peak hours. In this study, the combination of temporal and spatial adaptation to the video streaming are considered to reduce the data traffic. Temporal adaptation is applied, to drop a number of redundancy frames from the segment that represent each slide. While spatial adaptation is applied to reduce the data from the selective frames that will be streamed. Experimental results show that, the proposed technique significantly reduce the streaming length and their data size. Different parameters are applied to map the streaming data to the network bandwidth, while the video that represent the presentation slides will be played with a satisfactory quality.
