The execution of a complex task, by definition, presumes that it cannot be performed by a single entity and requires collaboration and cooperation between two, or more, entities. Such collaboration necessities include the correct identification of trustworthy entities to engage with, and the possibility of maintaining a collaboration scenario (even with a market competitor) without given up sensible information that would prevent an organisation to sustain its competitiveness. And even after selecting the right partners, agents need to trust that the negotiation outcomes will be enforced. In this work we propose a model that enables the collaboration between entities to solve a complex task, while negotiating their preferences, with trust mechanisms associated with the reputation of each agent, and the enforcement of the negotiation outcomes. To achieve this goal, our model relies on the definition of a competitive multi-agent coalition network, and a reputation layer that allows them to perform informed decisions when engaging with other agents. This model is supported by an immutable and distributed structure, that uses blockchain as a layer for knowledge representation, and smart contracts as enforcers of a negotiation process.

Although efficient charging scheduling schemes which introduced the integrated MCDM methods are being developed for WRSNs, AHP or FAHP using a pairwise ratio scale is adopted in weight allocation to magnify the actual pairwise difference between multi-criteria, or even when FCNP using a pairwise interval scale is employed weight compensation is not taken into account. In this article, we propose a new charging scheduling method based on an integrated FCNP-VWA-PROMETHEE named iFCVP. This method first assigns the weights to multi-criteria characterizing the charging request nodes (RNs) with FCNP using a pairwise interval scale and compensates them with VWA to make more accurate weights. Then, the BS uses these weights to choose the most suitable next charging location with PROMETHEE. While determining the charging order, the partial charging time (pCT) at the selected locations is reasonably determined using the weights assigned by FCNP-VWA by considering the trade-off between the performance metrics. The extensive simulation results show that the network lifetime of the proposed method is 256.7%, 264.7%, and 283.6% longer compared to AHP-PROMETHEE, FAHP-PROMETHEE, and FAHP-VWA-PROMETHEE schemes for 500 sensor nodes, respectively.

A force-sensing biopsy needle embedded with Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors is proposed to be used in cancer diagnosis. The FBG sensor is a fiber optic sensor, and the biopsy needle is made of nitinol, both of which can be used in MRI-guided biopsy to provide force feedback to surgeons. The axial force resolution of the biopsy needle is as high as 8.4 mN/pm, and its repeatability was measured to be 19 mN. The dynamic force measurement performance of the needle was verified by animal meat insertion experiment.

This paper addresses the critical issue of flood prediction, a common and devastating natural disaster. Predicting floods has long been a challenging task, and this article introduces an innovative solution using federated learning, an advanced machine learning technique. Federated learning ensures data privacy, availability, and security, while also tackling network latency problems. Unlike traditional methods, it promotes onsite training of local data models, eliminating the need to transfer large datasets to a central server for aggregation. The new model combines smaller models from 18 stations to predict upcoming floods. It issues flood alerts with a five-day lead time to specific clients, enhancing preparedness and response. At each client station, a local (FFNN) model is trained to predict water levels based on regional parameters. This approach promises to revolutionize flood forecasting, improving our ability to mitigate flood-related damage and protect lives and property. Furthermore, to enhance accuracy we have used advanced CNN2D algorithm for flood forecasting.

Decision Support systems (DSS) are information systems that help tau o solve decision problems. Specifically, they are computer-based tools designed to assist individuals or organizations in making complex decisions. These systems utilize data, models, algorithms, and user interfaces to help users analyze information and evaluate possible outcomes in decision-making processes. They usually combine: (a) knowledge databases, (b) mathematical models of the problem to be solved, (c) algorithms/techniques for solving the model, and d) a dialog system with the user (software and user interface). To better understand the various forms of decision problems, each one of them demands the introduction of proper theoretical tools. Investigating decision support systems can involve various aspects, from understanding their conceptual framework to exploring their practical applications and impact. This paper tries to contribute to a better understanding of DSS because investigating DSS is crucial for improving decision-making processes, enhancing organizational efficiency, gaining competitive advantage, understanding technological advancement, addressing complex problems, and improving user experience.

Data scientists, researchers and engineers want to understand, whether machine learning models for object detection work accurate and precise. networks like Yolo use bounding boxes as a result to localize the object in the image. The principal aim of this paper is to address the problem of a lack of an effective metric for evaluating the results of bounding box regression in object detection networks when boxes do not overlap or lie completely within each other. The standard known metrics, like IoU, lack of differentiating results, which do not overlap but differ in the distance between predicted bounding box and label. To solve this challenge, we propose a new metric called UIoU (Unified Intersection over Union) that combines the best properties of existing metrics (IoU, GIoU and DIoU) and extends them with a similarity factor. By assigning weight to each component of the metric, it allows for a clear differentiation between the three possible cases of box positions (not overlapping, overlapping, boxes inside each other). The result of this paper is a new metric that outperforms the existing metrics such as IoU, GIoU and DIoU by providing a more understandable measure of the performance of object detection models. This provides researchers and users in the field of explainable AI with a metric that allows the evaluation and comparison of prediction and label bounding boxes in an understandable way.

Hardware-inspired enquiry-based learning (EBL) is an emerging pedagogy to develop transferable engineering skills in students. This paper is aimed at unleashing the potential of this pedagogy via the multidisciplinary domain of robotics to learn the material through a research-based method. The objective is to assist educational institutions in preparing the next generation of engineers and scientists by nourishing a 'Can do' attitude in the students. A reproducible framework centred on a robotic kit is proposed in this research for which four conceptual robotics workshops were designed for a college. Given the interdisciplinary nature of robotics, the proposed project developed skills related to various subjects including programming, logic, system engineering, etc. Qualitative as well as quantitative results demonstrated that the project enabled the students to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and the practical world. The proposed state-of-the-art framework helped to illustrate complex concepts in robotics and successfully engaged students by providing them a hands-on learning experience.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine due to missile and artillery fire, the air alerts have been announced more than 31,000 times with an average duration of 58 min. Educational process in the distant from the front line areas of Ukraine is carried out in either online, offline or mixed formats, accordingly, during air raids students and school children are to go to shelters and have to spend there from 30 min to 3 h or longer. While staying in the shelter young people and children suffer from psychological and emotional stress which can cause changes in the basic physiological indicators (pulse, blood pressure, body temperature), in particular, up to levels leading to considerable health damage. The task of provisioning of operational control of a person's vital indicators during the stay in a civil protection shelter becomes obvious, it will enable timely and appropriate response to potential threats. At Donetsk National Technical University and Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas the teachers offered the students of the second (master's) educational level of the automation program a task to develop a health monitoring system for vital activity indicators of people in shelters as an interdisciplinary project with practical case to consolidate theoretical knowledge.

Currently, materials based on elastomers and composites are extensively used in mechanical engineering and construction fields. Owing to the intricate nature of problems involving elastomer mechanics, selecting the most suitable computational approach, tailored specifically through methods of computational mathematics, is essential. However, at the current level of research, determining the optimal computation scheme is not always feasible, leading researchers to develop and compare various calculation algorithms. This article aims to present a mathematical model that addresses these challenges. The project employed an adaptation of the finite element method (FEM), termed the finite element moment scheme (FEMS), tailored for materials with low compressibility. The developed models and algorithms were integrated into a software module, and their efficiency was validated through a case study focusing on the VR-201 vibration isolator.

Agriculture represents an important pillar in the global economy. It plays a preponderant role in social life. Africa alone represents 30% of the earth's arable land, or 30 million km2 of usable agricultural land. This sector employs more than 65% of the active Senegalese population. However, inappropriate weather or climate change have a deep effect on agricultural production or crop yields. Consequently, the conformance of precision agriculture requires effective decisions by stakeholders in the agricultural field. This can be achieved through an innovative recommender system. A recommender system filters data using different algorithms and suggests the most relevant items to users in a particular domain using relevant entities. To address the above issue, we propose a recommender system for farmers in Senegal called SENAgriPreci which enables users to make good and precise agricultural decisions using various parameters (Example: pH, crop type, soil type, temperature etc.). Using relevant datasets, namely: SAED and CRNA, we conducted benchmarking experiments to validate our proposed SENAgriPreci recommendation methodology. Experimental results in terms of Root Mean Square Error (RSME) validates that of our proposed recommendation method is more favorable and outperforms other related and contemporary recommendation methods in relation to accuracy and precise crop recommendations.
