One of the main challenges in research beyond 5G and 6G networks is the fruition of smart propagation environments. Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) represent a promising technology for realizing controllable wireless propagation environments that can actively cooperate in data transfer and processing. A reconfigurable PIN-loaded metamaterial unit-cell is investigated for next-generation communications, Device-to-Device systems and Internet of Things. The proposed cell allows to implement switchable reflector/absorber surfaces for different polarizations, to selectively allow/inhibit signal transmission with respect to the polarization of the impinging wave. Thanks to its features, the proposed metamaterial configuration could be very attractive for designing and customizing RIS prototypes for specific communication scenarios.

In an era of rapid technological advancements, the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) has revolutionized the healthcare landscape by integrating medical devices, networks, and systems. However, the growing digitization and interconnectivity of healthcare infrastructures have exposed vulnerabilities, making robust cybersecurity measures an imperative necessity. This paper presents a comprehensive approach to fortifying healthcare security through the power of machine learning. Our study explores the potential of machine learning in enhancing cybersecurity within the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) domain. Through the analysis of diverse healthcare data, our suggested model effectively identifies and forecasts cyber threats, facilitating early preventive measures against adversarial actions. We also highlight the unique difficulties in protecting the IoMT landscape. Incorporating machine learning algorithms into the IoMT framework, we develop a dynamic defense system adept at responding to emerging threats and safeguarding sensitive medical information. To validate our methodology, we undertook comprehensive tests on the extensive ECU_IoHT dataset. The findings reveal that our machine learning-centric cybersecurity model surpasses conventional techniques, delivering superior threat detection accuracy, and minimizing false alarms. This research offers essential insights for healthcare entities, policymakers, and cybersecurity experts aiming to bolster IoMT security. By integrating machine learning into healthcare cybersecurity, we pave the way for robust defenses that prioritize patient confidentiality, uphold medical system integrity, and guarantee the continuous provision of vital healthcare services.

We propose loss function week enforcement of the velocity relations between time-series points in the Kinematic-Informed artificial Neural networks (KINN) for long-term stock prediction. Problems of the series volatility, Out-of-Distribution (OOD) test data, and outliers in training data are addressed by (Artificial Neural networks) ANN's learning not only future points prediction but also by learning velocity relations between the points, such a way as avoiding unrealistic spurious predictions. The presented loss function penalizes not only errors between predictions and supervised label data, but also errors between the next point prediction and the previous point plus velocity prediction. The loss function is tested on the multiple popular and exotic AR ANN architectures, and around fifteen years of Dow Jones function demonstrated statistically meaningful improvement across the normalization-sensitive activation functions prone to spurious behaviour in the OOD data conditions. Results show that such architecture addresses the issue of the normalization in the auto-regressive models that break the data topology by weakly enforcing the data neighbourhood proximity (relation) preservation during the ANN transformation.

This research aims to analyse urban regeneration in Portugal in the context of environmental sustainability. Urban regeneration is much more than an information technology problem, as it increasingly requires social, economic, political, management and communication skills. Urban regeneration cannot be reduced to a mere real estate business, as it is seen as a public policy that treats the city as a collective good and aims to deal with the cities of the future. It is therefore important to highlight the role of environmental taxation as an extra-fiscal policy that can influence taxpayers' behaviour (in this case, towards the use of more sustainable materials in urban regeneration). This study seeks to show how Portuguese municipalities have a digital presence and how this presence can be relevant in the process of spreading fiscal incentives (namely to companies), in the context of their local significance. Thus, based on an exploratory analysis of the municipalities of the Portuguese Northern Region, this research aims to present a portrait of the digital presence of municipalities and how it is linked to fiscal incentives for urban regeneration. From the author's point of view, this is a groundbreaking study because it puts the issue of environmental taxation in the context of urban regeneration on the table.

This research aims to analyse the properties of biodiesel obtained from residual oils that have been collected in sites dedicated to community tourism, taking into consideration that at present, Ecuador does not have solid strategies to recycle and rationally reuse the volume of residual oils generated in the preparation of food in different sectors. In the tourism field, the generation of residual oils is not an isolated case, residual oils, produced in food preparation, are generally discarded;However, this work developed a strategy for obtaining biodiesel from waste oils, defining the reagents necessary for the development of the chemical reaction called transesterification, from which biodiesel was obtained that will be used as biofuel and on the other hand the glycerine which will be used as a degreaser, the necessary reagents were fixed from the bibliographic investigation, and then proceeded to characterise the oil used as raw material, for later carry out the experimental phase to analyse the physical and chemical properties at laboratory level, finally used in an internal combustion engine diesel obtaining an average opacity level of 16%, with these values proceeds to validate the application of the product obtained in agricultural machinery commonly used in tourism community.

Effective digital communication of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and efforts is critical to shaping stakeholder perceptions and opinions. Therefore, the aim of this article is to describe the current state of research on digital CSR communication and to formulate further directions in the form of a systematic literature review. Data collection of 46 relevant studies from 2015 - 2023 was conducted in the Web of Science research database. The PRISMA reporting guideline was used to enhance the transparency and quality of the systematic review. The results, through scientometric indicators and presented trends, identify two research streams: the ability of CSR to strengthen the brand-consumer relationship and the engagement of CSR stakeholders. A discrepancy was also found between the positive impact of digital CSR on E-WOM and the low engagement of digital news stakeholders. The presented results have some limitations, although they are beneficial for scholarship and practice as they provide a comprehensive overview of the current evidence on the issue addressed and recommendations for improving stakeholder engagement.

Immersive game play for learning and development signals a regenerative successful design and learning challenge for academia, industry and software development worldwide. Inconclusive findings for gaming learning compared to conventional learning mode seem to sustain the learning gameplay "enigma" persistent. Dispersed evidence deals with open innovation-associated facets that reflect sustainability. Thereby, this study rests on exploring open innovation-related capacity in traditional and learning gameplay instruction in an IT-group organization. We report on 58 Greek employees' open innovation-linked L&D attributes investigated after-workshop and post-Resilience gaming in 2022. The participants identified the Resilience game as more helpful instructional solution for open innovation-associated orientation in relation to conventional instruction. Male workforce and peers originated from Attica region did relate Resilience game to more open innovation-associated adaptation in their company. The obtained results are discussed in tandem with theory and practice and strands for further research that align with learning gameplay open innovation-and sustainability-orientation and experience.

This paper analyzes the impact of the promotion of new energy vehicles on emissions reduction in the context of China's pilot policy on new energy vehicles, which seeks to address this difficulty. We developed a difference-in-difference model in conjunction with the propensity score matching (PSM-DID) method to analyze the impact of the NEVP policy on emissions of particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter < 2.5 mu m (PM2.5). Advocating for new energy vehicles has significantly reduced PM2.5 emissions. The cities with higher levels of development, the effect of NEVP policy on PM2.5 emission reduction is more pronounced. Based on the mechanism analysis, new energy vehicles are the main way to reduce PM2.5 emissions to achieve the goal of improving air quality. This research provides empirical evidence supporting the enhancement of environmental standards by advocating for the use of new energy vehicles.

Neglected tropical diseases affect more than 24% of the world's poorest populations. Some NTDs are diagnosed using kato-katz images;the kato-katz technique is the most commonly used diagnostic technique for soil-transmitted helminthiasis. The technique involves microscopic examination of sieved stool samples and tallying the parasitic eggs present. Kato-katz images present a unique and complex problem when it comes to image enhancement for feature detection. The foreground objects of interest (the parasite eggs) have features that match with the rest of the foreground objects in the image, making it difficult to distinguish and differentiate them. Hence sensible noise filtering and feature enhancement strategies are required for successful object identification and diagnosis. This paper will describe the results of studies on noise filtering and image enhancement of kato-katz images. Due to the 'noisy' and 'noise-like' nature of the images and the large number of objects in the images, typical noise filtering methods produce poor results. To our best knowledge, this is a pioneering work looking at image enhancement and noise filtering of kato-katz images. This work builds upon previous research by the authors concerning kato-katz images.
