Accidents due to fuel fires in Service Stations (SS) present a serious threat to human activities and the local economy. In order to improve emergency planning, intervention zones were determined. First, the areas of affectation by thermal irradiation in a fire with Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion (BLEVE) were calculated at the Service Station "Granja" located in the Pallatanga canton, using the technical note of prevention (NTP) 293. For this a widespread fire was considered in the 5 storage tanks with combustible liquids, having three containers of premium diesel, one with "super" (high octane) gasoline and one with "extra" (regular) gasoline, each with a nominal capacity of 10000 gallons (37.85 m(3)). The impact on people at different distances was then calculated using the vulnerability models of people due to major accidents according to Finney's PROBIT functions. In the end, the intervention, and alert distances due to exposure to thermal radiation from the fire were determined according to SEVESO regulations for different events. It was found that, at 23.83 degrees C, 76.09% relative humidity;2911.1 Pa;The intervention distance is: 783 m, and 980 m distances for the alert zone. It was also calculated: a) 100% of burns with protective clothing at 400 m, b) 100% of burns without protective clothing at 500 m, c) 100% of 1st degree burns affected at 600 m, d) 100% of affected with burns of 2nd degree at 800 m and e) 100% of fatal burns close to 400 m.

The accurate annotation of math exercises and word problems according to a diverse set of knowledge components is an important task for many education applications. It is an extremely complex and resource-intensive process, and has traditionally been done manually by experienced educators. There has been research work in recent years to apply machine learning to automate the process, however, due to the varied datasets used by different researchers and the private nature of these datasets, there is no good benchmark for which model performs the best for such a task. Moreover, the datasets used in literature typically comprise math exercises that follow similar templates. In this paper, we benchmark some of the best reported models on a math word problem dataset with fine-grained knowledge component annotations, and highlight the challenges in making accurate predictions. We propose models to improve the prediction accuracy, and demonstrate how they can be used to extract similar problems based on knowledge component from an unlabelled pool of questions, thus empowering educators to better identify the knowledge gaps of their students and tailor suitable practice problems for them.

The article addresses the contemporary challenges facing the agrifood sector in sustaining competitive advantages through the integration of regenerative strategies and digital technologies. Population growth, inadequate conditions for ensuring food security, cases of hunger and poverty in rural regions, and natural disasters underscore the need for novel development paradigms. Sustaining sustainable competitive advantage relies on the accumulation of valuable resources, with digital technologies occupying a pivotal position. Despite historically prioritizing sustainable development, agribusiness enterprises have not fully addressed urgent environmental issues such as mitigating global warming. Regenerative agribusiness seeks to restore natural resource properties and establish ecologically oriented agrifood systems by blending traditional and innovative technologies. Ambiguities in assessing the outcomes of agribusiness enterprises' environmental initiatives stem from unclear regulations governing regenerative agribusiness technologies and the lack of relevant standards. Departing from traditional entrepreneurial paradigms, regenerative agrifood systems align with stakeholders' long-term goals, including reducing the greenhouse effect, waste management, biodiversity conservation, soil improvement, water resource management, and promoting socio-economic development in local communities. Utilizing innovative regenerative strategies and valuable resources, particularly digital technologies, enables enterprises embracing regenerative entrepreneurship principles to reinforce their sustainable competitive advantages. Internet of Things, automation and robotization, artificial intelligence, traceability, and Big Data are identified as prominent innovative solutions with considerable impact on the agrifood value chain. As 3D printing technology transforms product design and manufacturing, educational programs must incorporate its principles to prepare engineering students for the workforce. Establishing dedicated labs and integrating 3D printing into higher education curricula has become popular among universities and colleges. However, insufficient attention is paid to using this learning practice to apply knowledge of engineering fundamentals and develop skills for implementing efficient and reliable additive manufacturing processes. Therefore, new approaches are needed to increase the pedagogical value of this learning practice. This study explores the effectiveness of the project-based learning (PBL) approach for enhancing the understanding of mathematical, engineering, and 3D printing concepts and their application by mechanical engineering students. We developed a pilot course, "Engineering and mathematical applications in 3D printing," for junior and senior-year students. The course included lectures on design for additive manufacturing (DfAM), 3D printing technologies, printability, and troubleshooting, as well as project tasks involving the design and fabrication of functional objects such as asymmetric spinning-tops, Pythagorean cups, and print-in-place mechanisms. In the study, we examined how participants applied their mathematical and engineering knowledge to solve complex design challenges using 3D printing technology, and their perceptions of the learning experience. Using an exploratory research design, data were collected through observations, student works, and post-course questionnaires. The findings indicate that the students successfully completed the project tasks, demonstrating their ability to apply engineering principles and optimize designs for 3D printing. The students highly appreciated the course's project-oriented format and its contribution to their understanding of 3D printing.

The pairwise comparison matrix is often used in different multi-criteria decision-making methods. The matrix identification process is related to the curse of dimensionality because as the size of the matrix increases, the number of queries to experts increases exponentially. One such method is a Characteristic Objects METhod (COMET) which requires building a Matrix of Expert Judgments (MEJ) in order to evaluate alternatives. However, to build MEJ, a decision maker or an expert should answer multiple pairwise comparison questions, which can be expensive in both financial and time terms. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that efficiently reduces the number of pairwise comparison questions to an expert. The algorithm is based on the triads' consistency and achieves more than ninety percent reduction in questions for big expert judgment matrices. Although the original algorithm is proposed for the COMET method, it could be generalized and used with such methods as RANking COMparison (RANCOM) and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The efficiency of the algorithm is proved using a simulation approach. The results of those simulations, as well as the pseudocodes, are presented in the paper.

The term "readiness" is often referred to in pedagogical and psychological literature devoted to the organization of educational processes, especially in dissertation studies. Meanwhile, readiness is understood as the ability of a future specialist to perform a certain type of activity. This article suggests a feasible approach to solving criterion challenges that a teacher may face in fostering or developing readiness for any type of activity, illustrated by a specific discipline. Given the evolution of advanced skills, which today's specialists must possess for quick and effective problem solving, such skills as the use of technology, monitoring, and control are deemed relevant and well-timed. This is what this study is devoted to. Given the complexity and interconnectedness of the factors determining the future engineering teachers' readiness to create and use DEC in professional activities, it is imperative to input those assumptions whereby the obtained results would be valid. This article describes the developed indicators of readiness to create and use DEC and gives examples of their calculation.

Learning management systems (LMS) have revolutionized education by removing restrictions on time, space, and boundaries. The platforms are now essential for delivering instruction and training in universities, businesses, and other institutions. However, learning requirements are quickly evolving. Atraining program participant today expects to receive programs that are tailored to his needs, competence, and ability. To meet the learners' hyper-personalized needs, LMS platforms must be reimagined. Massive amounts of data are being generated and gathered by learning platforms, and when these data are processed using cutting-edge data science tools like AI, machine learning, etc., they can produce insightful data intelligence that will help to further enable efficient, adaptive, and personalized learning and training programs. AI and machine learning can assist us in processing these data to enhance the functionality of an eLearning or LMS platform and modernize it in accordance with new training methodologies and learner expectations. Moreover, it can help us obtain in-depth, accurate, and insightful intelligence on how people are interacting with an LMS down to the micro level, in order to improve the effectiveness of the system and assist us in delivering more personalized programs for higher participation and retention rates. In this paper, we present a structure and methodology for integrating AI into an LMS platform, in an ethical and effective way.

Unibotics is an open online web framework for robotics engineering in higher education. It allows practical learning of robot programming from the web browser, and fits both distance and face to face education. It includes more than twenty robotics challenges illustrating mobile robotics concepts (navigation, control, localization, mapping, etc.), service robotics (drones, autonomous driving, vacuum cleaners, logistics), and DeepLearning (image classification, object detection). It is based on Python language, ROS middleware and Gazebo simulator. A new version has been released with internal refactoring and improved frontend, based on REACT library. A pilot study has been carried out with 110 real students from three different Spanish universities using it in three 12-week courses. The usability of the new Unibotics has been measured and compared to previous release. The questionnaire shows improvements in usability but still some inconsistencies in reliability. No scalability problems happened despite the growth in concurrent users. The platform has also allowed grad students with no prior robotics background to start with robotics engineering.

The objective of this study is to develop a controller capable of communicating with a web platform for the implementation of gamification in physiotherapeutic scenarios aimed at older adults diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the hands, in order to migrate towards the use of technological resources and ICT. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC), Azuay is positioned as one of the provinces with the highest life expectancy, projecting a life expectancy of 79 years in 2020. This situation is related to a high incidence rate of osteoarthritis in the elderly, which makes this project relevant for this population. The proposal combines the categories of software, music, video games and electronics in a web platform that serves as a complementary therapy, using a controller as a manipulation tool. For the theoretical foundation, data was obtained from different academic repositories, following a qualitative, transcendental, experimental, explanatory approach. The evaluation of the project was carried out through the application of a questionnaire based on the LIKERT scale, in which the teachers evaluated the project and gave their opinion as judges. This study represents a significant contribution to the field of non-pharmacological therapy and the implementation of technology in the care of older adults with osteoarthritis of the hands.
