In response to the rapid growth in air transportation demand, the methods to manage, allocate, and efficiently use scarce resources in the airport play a vital role in improving the efficiency of the air transportation system. Due to the limited infrastructure of hub-and-spoke airports which is influenced by many factors, the chief goal of the airline industry and airport management is to utilize such resources as check-in desks, departure lounges, bridge-equipped gates, aircraft stands, baggage carousels, staff and equipment. Based on the mobility of the resources in the airports, there are two types of problems in the airline industry and airports, namely mobile and immobile resource optimization problems. The crew optimization problems are mobile resource optimization problems, whereas airport gate assignment, counter assignment problems, and carousel optimization problems are immobile resource optimization problems in airports. Considering the problems classified based on the mobility of the resources, this paper aims to present a survey of optimization problems in the aviation industry, explaining the interplay and relationship between these problems along with modeling techniques and proposed solutions to this individual problem.

Automatic lane change is a feature in self-driving cars where the vehicle can change lanes on its own, without driver input. It aims to improve safety and make driving more convenient for the driver. In this paper, adaptive grid and occupancy map methods are proposed for automatic lane change. Nine grids are formed based on the ego vehicle to create an active occupancy grid map on the lane change request of the driver. It is suitable for use in autonomous vehicles that require real-time calculation because it reduces the number of cases from 256 to 32 where target vehicles may exist around the ego vehicle using active occupancy grid maps. The algorithm was programmed with Matlab/Simulink, and the simulation environment was constructed using CarMaker. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can make safe automatic lane change even in a crowded traffic condition.

Farmers usually have to deal with insects/pests and the diseases they cause. The diseases caused by these pests create several health issues and crops get severely damaged. As a result, the country's economy is at risk. Thus, developing an intelligent system that will help farmers identify insects/pests has become necessary. The aim is to present efforts taken for pest classification and pest detection. This paper aims to find missing links in the existing work done for the classification and detection of pests and conduct an analysis of the same. The survey paper will assist to understand various machine learning models built for pest classification and deep-learning models used for pest detection. The paper will also highlight various advanced techniques used for pest localization in an image with multiple pests of multiple classes. This paper analyzes the performance of classification methods and detection methods based on parameters such as accuracy, F1 score, precision, and recall. A comprehensive survey, observations drawn from the existing research, and its analysis are presented in this paper. The survey will lead directions for future research.

Physical Human-Robot Interaction (pHRI) is essential for robots that establish contact with humans, like assistive or rescue robots. pHRI demands hard safety and compliance constraints. Tactile sensing is vital for pHRI, as vision and/or range sensors alone can not cope with constant occlusions while grasping. Measuring pressure on the grasping surface is crucial to avoid injury, predict user intent and successfully perform collaborative movements. This work presents a new three-fingered gripper equipped with novel tactile sense capability via arrays of finger pressure sensors. Experiments gripping a human arm on the distal and proximal surfaces of the gripper fingers have been performed to assess sensing performance in the normal and tangential components. Results prove that a good estimation of interaction between human and robot is achieved in both normal and tangential movements.

Education is vital in fostering economic growth and societal development, particularly in developing countries like Timor-Leste. As technology has revolutionised education in the digital transformation era, the concept of a smart university, driven by advanced technologies and data analytics, has gained prominence globally. Timor-Leste, amid its progress in institutional structures and public infrastructure, is also exploring integrating smart technologies in higher education. This underscores a commitment of The East Timor National Education Strategic Plan (NESP) 2011-2030 to meet national and international standards, positioning the country at the forefront of educational innovation. This study aims to assess the feasibility of implementing a Smart University in Timor-Leste to evaluate the readiness of the country to embrace digital technologies and integrate them into higher education practices. The research employs a Design Science Research methodology where qualitative and quantitative data are gathered through interviews, surveys, and document analysis. Design artefacts, including system architecture and an evaluation framework, are developed to comprehensively understand the technological and informatics aspects of implementing a Smart University in Timor-Leste. The findings will contribute to decision-making and inform the implementation plan, offering valuable insights into stakeholders' perspectives and perceptions, and will support the advancement of the educational landscape in Timor Leste by integrating smart technologies and innovative practices in higher education.

Given the increased competitiveness of the business environment, organizations strive to constantly adapt their business processes and supporting tools while maintaining the skill level of their workforce. On-the-job training is an important tool for this purpose. Following a design science research approach, we present in this paper a methodology for transforming business process activities into simulation based serious games that can be embedded in real ERP software and used for effective on-the-job training. In order to create a verisimilar environment for the learners, the key principle in our methodology is the encapsulation of the training activity inside a sub-process where all the relevant aspects of the process can be simulated and controlled without impacting the overall business process. Implementing this approach in our own simulation software integrated to the Odoo ERP software enabled us to use this training approach in a very effective way.

There is a long history of formulation of machine learning models that have at their core “representative prototypes” living in the data space (examples include variants of Self Organizing Maps in the unsupervised setting or variants of Learning Vector Quantization in the supervised one). The prototype based formulations make such models intuitive and naturally amenable to interpretation. I will present a series of generalizations and extensions of this idea, arguing that prototype based learning still deserves attention in the current era of deep learning. In particular, I will present extensions of prototype based learning to model spaces and Riemannian manifolds. The visually impaired people (VIPs) constitute a substantial section of the world's population. VIPs struggle with performing daily chores and independent mobility in everyday life. The proposed approach aims to create a model that can detect objects in real time from their surroundings and translate them into speech that VIPs can hear. The model is further programmed to detect familiar faces and recognize the emotions of people around them, thus helping VIPs break barriers of social interaction and communication. Additionally, the model also aims at providing the user's real-time location to his peers and family to ensure the user's safety. The proposed model uses the convolutional neural network architecture and you only look once (YOLO) object detection technique to obtain low computational complexity that enables it to run efficiently on low-power devices. The entire system was assembled employing the Raspberry Pi 3, accompanied by the integration of a GSM module within the proposed configuration.

Plateau implants are widely acknowledged for their high success rates due to their ability to minimize bone stress concentrations. In cases where there is insufficient bone height, crestal implant placement is a viable alternative. Otherwise, subcrestal placement of short implants is recommended as it plays a vital role in preserving crestal bone from overload. In this context, the biomechanical state of the bone is directly influenced by the depth at which the implant is inserted. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of crestal and subcrestal placement of short plateau implants in varying bone quality conditions on peri-implant bone stresses. A 5.0 x 5.0 mm Bicon Integra-CPT implant was chosen for numerical analysis. Four posterior maxilla models with types III and IV bone, each having a 1.0 mm cortical bone thickness, were utilized. Simulations were conducted at different insertion depths: the implant neck was placed at the crestal level and -1, -2, and -3 mm subcrestal positions. A mean maximal oblique load of 120.92 N was applied to the center of the 7.0 mm abutment. Von Mises equivalent stress distributions in the surrounding bone were examined to identify areas with stress magnitudes exceeding 100 MPa in cortical bone and 5MPa in cancellous *** all scenarios, the highest von Mises equivalent stress values were observed at the implant neck. The results indicated that the 5.0 x 5.0 mm Bicon Integra-CPT implant, when placed crestally, resulted in safe bone vonMises equivalent stresses and offered promising clinical outcomes. However, in all subcrestal scenarios, the implant placement have led to von Mises equivalent stress values exceeding the acceptable range in cancellous bone due to the absence of contact with cortical bone. Notably, the tested Bicon implant displayed low sensitivity to deteriorating bone quality at the studied subcrestal levels, affirming the positive clinical experience with Bicon plateau implants.

systems able to dynamically adapt their behaviour gain growing attention to raising service quality by reducing development costs. On the other hand, adaptation is a major source of complexity and calls for suitable methodologies during the whole system life cycle. A challenging point is the system's structural reconfiguration in front of particular events like component failure/congestion. This solution is so common in modern distributed systems that it has led to defining ad-hoc extensions of known formal models (e.g., the pi-calculus) But even with syntactic sugar, these formalisms differ enough from daily programming languages. This work aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice by introducing an abstract machine for the "nets-within-nets" paradigm. Our encoding is in the well-known Maude language, whose rewriting logic semantics ensures the mathematical soundness needed for analysis and an intuitive operational perspective.
