Collaborative augmented reality (CAR) is a remote collaboration technology that utilizes augmented reality (AR) to create a shared environment for distributed collaborators conducting physical tasks. CAR became commercially available a few years ago, and its industrial adoption was accelerated by the contact and travel restrictions imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic to provide industrial services. However, it seems that despite implementation, the technology is not fully embraced and used regularly. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to explore differences in the assessment of perceived benefits, opportunities, challenges, and barriers in implementing CAR among different adoption status groups (i.e., Adopters, Testers, and Non-adopters). To achieve this objective, we conducted a survey in the German capital equipment industry. With a sample size of 130 companies, our study is the first attempt to quantitatively explore CAR adoption in the capital equipment industry and it provides valuable insights into the reasons for potential hesitations in adopting CAR.

Bibliometric analysis of Manifest Destiny is part of American exceptionalism. This study aims to determine the development of research with the theme of Manifest Destiny in the last 10 years from 2013 to 2022. The research method uses qualitative research with a literature review. Collecting data by accessing journals on Scopus obtained 79 articles with high citations within a span of 10 years from 2013 to 2022. Then analyze the data using the Vosviewer application. The results showed that there were 70 journals that studied Manifest Destiny from 2013 to 2022 with the largest contributing country being the United States which was the originator of this idea. Environmental Education Research is the journal most discussed by scientists. It was found that the 2010 range of discussions tended to be high politics which is directly related to the war, power, and empire nodes, and then the 2016 range and above tended to low politics, namely legitimacy, debate, order, nature & education. In international relations theory, the United States' trend of using smart power is the guideline for scientists to discuss this Manifest Destiny.

Accurate Human Activity Recognition (HAR) in smart homes is crucial for applications such as health monitoring and elderly care. Traditional HAR models typically require extensive labelled training data specific to each activity. This poses a challenge when models are transferred to new environments, where residents may perform a different range of activities. Conventional HAR methods struggle with generalization when faced with multiple, diverse, and unseen activity classes. To address this gap, we leverage pre-trained language models and embed contextual knowledge, such as location information, to narrow down the number of potential activity labels. Our approach involves engineering rich textual representation derived from given sensor data. We then apply language models in a hierarchical two-step manner, where we first identify the person's location in the home and then classify activities based on a reduced set of location-specific labels. We evaluate our approach using some of the major proprietary and open-source Large Language Models (LLMs), including 1) Chat-GPT, 2) Mistral Instruct, and 3) SBERT. Experiments were performed on the "van Kasteren" and "van Kasteren houses" datasets. While Chat-GPT achieves a macro-average F-Score of 26.63% on the "van Kasteren" dataset, our two-step SBERT approach significantly outperforms it with a score of 37.83%. On the more challenging "van Kasteren houses" dataset, our method using Mistral Instruct achieves a macro-average F-Score of 19.33%, compared to 15.46% for Chat-GPT. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method in enhancing HAR accuracy, while also ensuring computational efficiency by utilizing models that are significantly smaller than state-of-the-art LLMs like Chat-GPT.

With the growing interest in distributed or global software development (GSD), numerous studies have emerged, aiming to explore the best practices for managing remote work scenarios. However, an opportunity of study remains regarding a systematic and rigorous analysis of how to effectively manage work from home-office in a distributed or global software development context. This paper presents a comprehensive systematic literature review that investigates the management of remote work in the realm of distributed or global software development. Atotal of 145 papers were selected from an initial search of 1503 retrieved publications based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. These papers underwent thorough data extraction and analysis, and the findings of this systematic review shed light on the primary concerns and best practices associated with global software development. Moreover, this review highlights the need for further research and refinement in several areas, including exploring the future prospects of GSD and its potential implications. By providing a holistic overview of the existing literature, this study serves as a valuable resource for researchers, practitioners, and managers seeking to gain insights into managing remote work effectively in distributed or global software development environments.

The Abstractions of the game of football serve as well-known challenges in AI research. A particularly accessible abstraction is the game of Foosball where one team is operated by an AI agent while the other side is controlled by humans. In Foosball, the dynamics can be described by a few descriptive parameters, namely the shift and rotation of the corresponding rods plus the position of the ball. In this work, we present a Computer Vision based real time game state detector in a real-world setup with an automated Foosball table (constructed by Bosch Rexroth AG). More precisely, we train an object detector network based on YOLOX to detect the positions of the figures and an image regressor network based on ResNet18 to predict the rotation angles. For the derivation of the training data we propose a semi-supervised labeling approach based on classical Computer Vision. We evaluate the proposed approach and find that our methodology works in the sense of a proof of concept. The resulting prototype generated promising results with low inference times meeting our real time requirement of 60 fps.

The widespread availability of the internet has rendered the engagement with social media an integral component of contemporary society. Platforms such as Facebook, Twitter/X, YouTube, among others, are designed to facilitate extensive, efficient, and sustained user participation, offering both anonymity and opportunities for positive engagement. However, these platforms have also become arenas for antisocial behaviors, including disregard for others' rights, lack of empathy, trolling, and aggression, leading to significant negative psychological impacts on affected individuals. These impacts range from anxiety and emotional trauma to depression, psychological disorders, self-isolation, diminished self-esteem, and even suicidal thoughts. This study focuses on antisocial behavior (ASB) manifested in tweets from Ghana during the 21-day COVID-19 lockdown. We develop a gold-standard annotated ASB corpus from collected and pre-processed data. We then assess the performance of different baseline classifiers against three transformer models-BERT, RoBERTa, and ELECTRA-in a binary classification task designed to detect ASB. Each model demonstrated varying degrees of success;however, the RoBERTa model, upon fine-tuning, exhibited superior performance, achieving an accuracy rate of 95.59% and an F1 score of 94.99%, thereby outperforming the other models.

In recent years, there has been a lot of research on estimation of crowd density using deep learning techniques, with applications in public safety, crowd control, and video surveillance. With a particular emphasis on video surveillance, this review paper examines the approaches and uses of deep learning techniques for crowd density estimation. An overview of the various approaches to crowd density estimation-such as multi-stage models, multi-scale strategies, attention mechanisms, and multi-feature fusion-is given in this review. It also reviews the various benchmark datasets that have been used to evaluate the performance of these methods, such as ShanghaiTech, UCF CC 50, and UCF-QNRF (Saleh et al. in Eng Appl Artif Intell 41:103-114, 2015), Visdrone. Additionally, a review of recent advances in crowd behavior analysis using deep learning techniques explores the challenges and limitations of current crowd density estimation models. The potential future directions for research in this field, including the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for crowd surveillance, and the development of content-aware density maps for improved accuracy, are also identified.

Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions, stemming from industrial processes and fossil fuel combustion, pose significant threats to both the environment and human health. In this study, we aimed to evaluate SO2 levels in Tuzla city's atmospheric air during 2019 and 2020, and to assess associated health risk. The concentrations ranged from 3.90-147.00 mu g/m(3) in 2019 and 3.50-1198.80 mu g/m(3) in 2020, according to monitoring data. The national threshold was exceeded on 34.25% and 21.74% of days in 2019 and 2020, respectively. Conventional deterministic risk assessment indicated that exposure to SO2 did not enhance the hazards to adult or pediatric health. However, applying Monte Carlo simulation revealed that 0.30% of adults, and 6.60% of children were at increased health risk during 2020, despite the mean SO2 concentration was within an acceptable range (41.38 +/- 3.55). This study underscores the critical role of meticulous SO2 emission monitoring and subsequent health risk assessments in comprehending, reducing, and preventing potential health hazards linked to air pollution. The integration of Monte Carlo simulation emerges as a proactive strategy for shaping future air quality regulation. By offering nuanced insights into potential health risks, this simulation technique equips policymakers to formulate targeted and effective regulations, enhancing the accuracy of risk assessments and fostering adaptive, science-based strategies to preserve and elevate air quality standards. As we navigate environmental and human health complexities, the integration of Monte Carlo simulation becomes indispensable tool, propelling us towards a future where air quality regulations are not only robust but also tailored to safeguard humans and the ecosystem.

PV power generation systems connected to the grid make the power they produce more useful. But both the utility grid installation and the photovoltaic system must meet the technical requirements to keep the PV installer safe and the utility grid responsible. Photovoltaic systems connect to the grid with the help of an electrical converter, which changes the DC power made by photovoltaic modules into the AC power that is used to power most electrical equipment. This study aims to design and simulate a three-phase grid-connected photovoltaic system that provides a reliable and stable source of electricity for loads connected to the grid. The primary areas of study include maximum power point tracking (MPPT), Boost converters, and bridge inverters. A boost converter, bridge inverter, and ultimately an inverter linked to the three-phase grid are used to interface the maximum power point tracking. This results in a load that introduces the photovoltaic module and provides a reliable and stable source of electricity for the grid.

The complexity of irrigation management necessitates the use of professional experience for effective decision-making. Expert systems (ES) are specifically engineered to mimic human expertise efficiently, allowing cognitive mechanisms to be replicated at the irrigation level. The value of combining human knowledge with cutting-edge technologies such as fog computing, cloud computing, blockchain, IoT, and machine learning has recently come to be recognized more and more. The objective is to create an integrated platform that increases irrigation systems' resilience and adaptability while also increasing their accuracy, efficiency, and capacity for adaptive decision-making in light of agricultural environments' changing conditions. With a focus on ES, fuzzy logic, and machine learning algorithms, this paper examines the research trends and applicability of intelligent approaches for optimal irrigation management scenarios. It also provides a thorough analysis of how these approaches contribute to the overall success of smart irrigation management.
