Today, tapered threads are very common in domestic pipe connections and especially in the oil and gas industry. Actually, the oil and gas assortment of connections is responsible for the operational strength of the connection and tightness of a drill-strings and casings. This means that the connectors have to provide significant requirements for the accuracy of the thread. Technological methods and design approaches cannot fully meet such requirements. The reason for this is the lack of accurate theoretical approaches to determine one of the main geometric parameters of a conical thread and the tool for its manufacture - the helix angle. In this research, on the vector and differential basis, the functional dependence of the helix angle on the main parameters of the thread: the pitch, the taper angle, the radius of the smaller base of the cone and the distance from it is obtained.

Apache Kafka is a widely used distributed publish-subscribe messaging system, offering high throughput and low latency. It is significant to guarantee the reliability and correctness of message transmissions in Kafka via formal modeling and verification. One of Kafka's core functions is the producer-consumer communication. In this paper, the message delivery between producers and consumers in Kafka is formally modeled and verified via Mediator, a hierarchical component-based modeling language for distributed and concurrent systems. Moreover, we translate the Mediator model into the model checker PRISM to verify its properties, such as Deadlock Freedom, Acknowledgement Mechanism, Parallelism, Sequentiality and Fault Tolerance. Results demonstrate the reliability of the producer-consumer communication in Kafka.

The growth of social media and user-targeted information reinforces the need to check sources to prevent the dissemination of unreliable content. In this context, an innovative solution is presented based on the established proliferation of push notifications and the potential identified in the TV ecosystem, since it connects multiple devices and platforms. The proposed approach aims to send news notifications with a high level of credibility through television as well as the latest news from local school newspapers. This strategy expects to engage audiences of different generations to promote family discussion and critical thinking about current topics. Furthermore, the dissemination of local events and releases of school newspapers intends to create a sense of community beyond the school while promoting social and local cohesion. This solution combines two on-going R&D projects that bring together the academia and well-established partners of the Portuguese industry, namely a news media company and an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) provider. After the good results from a preliminary field trial to assess the receptiveness to news notifications on the TV, a second evaluation will be carried out with school students (who will create the news) and their families (who will receive the notifications at home). Finally, this solution aims to contribute with more knowledge for preventing fake news dissemination, and also to demonstrate the potential of a personalized notifications mechanism for delivering trustworthy information on the TV ecosystem.

The investigation of signature validation is crucial to the field of personal authenticity. The biometrics-based system has been developed to support some information security features. A person's signature, an essential biometric trait of a human being, can be used to verify their identification. In this study, a mechanism for automatically verifying signatures has been suggested. The offline properties of handwritten signatures are highlighted in this study which aims to verify the authenticity of handwritten signatures whether they are real or forged using computer-based machine learning techniques. The main goal of developing such systems is to verify people through the validity of their signatures. In this research, images of a group of signatures, numbering 70 images, were used. Image preprocessing steps were performed on them, and their features were extracted using the median filter. After that, the eigenvector and eigenvalue were calculated using the PCA algorithm. Then the backpropagation neural network algorithm was applied for training and testing where the performance reached 6.7995e-07 for 82 epochs and the accuracy was 99.98%.

The flood risk has increased recently as environmental conditions have changed. Identifying risks and making predictions is very critical. In multi-criteria decision-making problems for weighting the data used in natural environment analysis, the expert's judgments can be expressed with exact numbers. However, it may not be possible to use exact judgments for every situation and the expert's judgments may contain uncertainties. These uncertainties are also present in the evaluations used to weight the data used in flood analysis and make it difficult to use definitive judgments in these evaluations. In this study, the opinions of experts were evaluated using classical Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), Fuzzy AHP (FAHP) and Z-Fuzzy AHP (Z-FAHP) methods and the data were weighted in order to determine the flood risk of the Buyukcekmece District. In this evaluation process, firstly, exact judgments were made, then judgments expressing uncertainties and finally the reliability of the judgments were made. The focus has been on seven criteria determined according to the situation. Each criteria has been transformed and categorized from raster data. As a result of this study, flood risk assessment conducted with Z-Fuzzy AHP has provided more precise results compared to other methods.

Question answering (QA) systems process natural language queries in order to retrieve relevant answers from data, document corpus or the Web. Memory networks have shown encouraging results in certain reasoning tasks of QA such as the end-to-end memory networks. In this paper, we explore the integration of BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers) with Convolutional End-to-End Memory networks to improve QA performance. It is anticipated that BERT will provide rich contextual embeddings, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of semantic relationships within sentences and questions. Specifically, we propose an incorporation of BERT, a state-of-the-art pre-trained language model with the Convolutional End-to-End Memory networks multi-hop reasoning model to improve the overall QA performance. The proposed model can be fine-tuned on smaller datasets, effectively handling overfitting issue. Our experiment shows that the proposed model exhibits remarkable performance, outperforming top results achieved by other memory networks models on the Facebook 'bAbI 1k' dataset with an accuracy of 92.86.

The paper is devoted to construction the special the software complex for analysis, synthesis and modeling of the control system for marine vessels. The complex is designed in MATLAB-Simulink package. It contains mathematical and computer model of the controlled object, mathematical and computer model of controller and tools for visualization. This software complex is universal for all objects with similar mathematical model and it can be easily modified for any marine vessel. In the paper the structure of software complex is given. Its work is illustrated by an example of real vessel #CSOC1120.

The introduction of Fog computing to the traditional Cloud computing architecture addresses the limitations of Cloud computing by optimising resource efficiencies such as energy consumption, latency, and network bandwidth utilisation. This research focuses on Fog computing in a smart building environment where heterogeneous Internet of Things (IoT) devices and sensors are placed in a standard way across the smart building. Research trends indicate that Fog computing optimises resource efficiency. However, this study determines how resource efficiency can be optimised using physical and spatial methods through enhanced smart IoT devices and sensor placements. CRISP-DM methodology was selected for its standardised format and 6-step iterative process to validate this study in a real-world smart building, with real-world smart IoT devices and sensors generating real-world data usage. IFogSim2 network simulation toolkit also supports and validates this study. The evaluation and analysis of the results demonstrated that the data management's impact on resources was further optimised through physical and spatial adjustments of smart IoT devices and sensor placements. The results indicate that using multiple heterogeneous metrics simultaneously and real-world data achieved a maximum percentage saving of 1.66% and 39% for energy consumption and network bandwidth utilisation. In comparison, latency was 88.51% savings for CCTV data management, including user GPS movement data, and enhanced and optimised resource efficiency. On that basis, it is recommended that smart building design and planning adopt this method to improve resource efficiency further in a smart building and Fog computing environment. The limitations of this study are limited user sample movements.

A camera operator can be partly replaced by a robot. With recent advancements in mobile robotics area, popularity of such robots is increasing. Mobile robots can successfully perform increasingly advanced tasks. This work aims to introduce quadruped mobile robot hosting discussion panel. The operator work is simplified to control robot behaviour only by selecting current speaker. With use of Spot (R) from Boston Dynamics (R) equipped with stereo cameras, the cameraman work has been performed. To realize such task, two level control system has been developed. First level, named global positioning, allows to move the robot to desired position in global coordinate system. It adjusts the robot pose (x, y, yaw) to the current speaker chosen from the operator control panel. Positions can be entered manually or be generated automatically in a regular distance on desired angles span. Second level, named local positioning, uses SPOT (R) cameras to detect speaker face and to follow it while they are giving a speech. Discussion panel is streamed via mobile phone mounted on the robot and distributed on MS Teams platform.
