Bearings' reliability is very important for the seamless operation of rotating machinery, as their failures can cause much downtime and expenses. In applications of bearing fault diagnosis (BFD), where deep learning (DL) has performed well, problems remain in making sure that the model remains robust under different operating conditions. This study introduces a novel hybrid model which integrates both Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) and Residual networks (ResNet) together with Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks to improve fault detection. The process begins with CWT that transforms time signals into 2-D time-frequency (TF) images, which are used by ResNets to extract spatial features. Temporal dynamics of these features are analyzed using an LSTM network in order to enhance predictive accuracy and adaptability to different operational scenarios. Tested against the famous CWRU dataset, our hybrid model demonstrates superior diagnostic performance, outperforming existing methods in accuracy.

Universities are today required to make an ever-increasing effort to bridge the gap between research, innovation, and marketable solutions. The goal of the paper is to contribute to enhancing the process of exploiting research results of universities through the proposition of an AI-based search process, the experimentation of the process by means of a prototype web portal named "UNIBA TT Skills Portal" that implements it and the evaluation of the perceived user experience of the web portal by using the System Usability Scale questionnaire. The paper illustrates a case study conducted on the University of Bari Aldo Moro, a large university in southern Italy, using technology transfer data in the health domain. The collection of data in a unique "place" aims at fostering technology transfer activities and the creation/acceleration of new innovative enterprises (start-ups and spinoffs) in the Healthcare sector.

This article gives an overview of the methods for using deep learning to identify and verify speakers. Speaker recognition is an everyday use of speech technology. Many research initiatives have been carried out in the past few years, but little progress has been achieved. But just as deep learning techniques are replacing previous state-of-the-art approaches in speech recognition, they are also developing in most machine learning fields. Deep learning seems to have evolved into the most advanced speaker verification and identification technique. Most novel efforts start with the common x-vectors in addition to i-vectors. The increasing volume of data gathered makes the area where deep learning is most effective more accessible.

This article discusses another approach to the concept and construction of the so-called universal automaton, through the definition of an equivalent COM automaton, and this definition is constructive, it is possible to build the specified automaton. Some well-known estimates of the exact upper bound of the size of a universal automaton for a regular language are given, which can be given using some nondeterministic finite automaton having k states, and a series of examples is considered that shows how fast the number of blocks can grow, i.e. the size of a universal automaton, if we are given the dimensions of both canonical automata. The property is given that in a table specifying the relation # associated with a COM automaton equivalent to a universal automaton, the number of columns cannot be significantly greater than the number of rows #CSOC1120.

This paper deals with the research of different artificial neural network algorithms and their application on data sets with different characteristics. In the first part of the paper, a description of six neural network algorithms is given, on the one hand, and the characteristics of data sets measured through meta-features, on the other hand. The empirical part of the paper describes the development of the predictive models through the process of data preparation for modeling, hyperparameters optimization, and analysis and empirical comparison of the algorithms' performance on different data sets. The research results show differences in the performance of the algorithms: Adam algorithm and its modifications have better performance than the AdaGrad algorithm and the basic gradient descent algorithm.

Storms are considered to be one of the most devastating and costliest disasters in the world. According to the disaster data from the International Disaster Database, in a period from 2001 to 2021, about 28% natural hazards are caused by storms. That is why making reasonable decisions regarding evacuation strategy of potential victims is needed. In multi-attribute decision-making, experts may not know the precise values of evaluations. Moreover, it can be hard to predict the degree of preference of one alternative over another so that the certain level of uncertainty exists. Therefore, preference relations in fuzzy conditions are used for these reasons. Intuitionistic fuzzy sets allow handling these uncertain parameters in such a form that considers experts' hesitation regarding assessments of attributes by dealing with membership, non-membership function and indeterminacy degree. In this paper, we consider the necessity of evacuation as the evacuation risky strategy in uncertain conditions as a task of multi-attribute decision-making. A proposed algorithm deals with intuitionistic preference relations to find the desirable evacuation strategy. The proposed algorithm enables transporting the maximum possible number of evacuees to safe destinations allowing intermediate storage. This technique leads to increasing the number of evacuated people. A numerical example is given to justify the results of the algorithm.

Energy consumption and security pose significant challenges in wireless sensor networks (WSNs), often operating in opposition. As security measures become more intricate, they tend to amplify battery drainage. Traditional security protocols, reliant on encryption and key management, prove ineffective in WSNs due to the dynamic nature of sensor communication and network topology shifts. Consequently, machine learning (ML) algorithms emerge as potential solutions to bolster security by incorporating monitoring and decision intelligence. This study serves as a comprehensive resource on WSN infrastructure and its security challenges, exploring the potential of ML algorithms to mitigate security costs across various domains. Additionally, the study addresses open issues regarding the adaptation of ML algorithms to suit sensor capabilities in WSNs.

Intelligent transportation and autonomous mobility solutions rely on cooperative awareness developed by exchanging proximity and mobility data among road users. To maintain pervasive awareness on roads, all vehicles and vulnerable road users must be identified, either cooperatively, where road users equipped with wireless capabilities of Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) radios can communicate with one another, or passively, where users without V2X capabilities are detected by means other than V2X communications. This necessitates the establishment of a communications channel among all V2X-enabled road users, regardless of whether their underlying V2X technology is compatible or not. At the same time, for cooperative awareness to realize its full potential, non-V2X-enabled road users must also be communicated with where possible or, leastwise, be identified passively. However, the question is whether current V2X technologies can provide such a welcoming heterogeneous road environment for all parties, including varying V2X-enabled and non-V2X-enabled road users? This paper investigates the roles of a propositional concept named Augmenting V2X Roadside Unit (A-RSU) in enabling heterogeneous vehicular networks to support and benefit from pervasive cooperative awareness. To this end, this paper explores the efficacy of A-RSU in establishing pervasive cooperative awareness and investigates the capabilities of the available communication networks using secondary data. The primary findings suggest that A-RSU is a viable solution for accommodating all types of road users regardless of their V2X capabilities.

In this paper, we investigate the interdependence of sample covariance estimation structure and transceiver mobility in the black-space cognitive radio (BS-CR) context. Here the BS-CR utilizes multi-antenna interference rejection combing (IRC) schemes to enhance the reception. These BS-CR algorithms and schemes enable effective spectrum reuse of the primary user (PU) for CRs, especially over short distance. The BS-CR and the PU system apply orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) scheme using equal subcarrier spacing and equal cyclic prefix (CP) length. Then, we can assume flat fading at the subcarrier level, which allows to use subcarrier-wise IRC processing. During silent time/frequency gaps in the CR transmission, the receiving CR station uses sample covariance matrix-based IRC adaptation. We focus on comparing the performance between our new approach, silent subcarriers, against the earlier-used silent time-domain gap method in case of relatively low mobility. We present an experimental study of how the CR link performance varies depending on the structure of the silent gaps used for covariance estimation, the path delay profile of the propagation channel, and the velocity of the mobile CR. The performance evaluation is provided assuming 4G LTE-like signal structure for the PU.

This paper describes the effect of the presence or absence of a rotary push-in mechanism on the movement speed of a variable outside diameter pipe inspection gauge (VOD-PIG). In existing studies, inspection robots that tow endoscopes and other wiring into the pipe can inspect the inside of the pipe in real time even in environments where radio reception is difficult, such as in metal pipes. However, the maximum inspection distance is limited by the increase in friction acting on the wiring during long-distance inspection. In the previous study, we developed VOD-PIGs to seal the piping and move through the pipe by converting the air pressure applied to the piping into a propulsive force. Despite its simple structure, the VOD-PIG can be sealed and opened arbitrarily at the VOD-PIG installation points in the piping. Air pressure can be applied to each VOD-PIG independently to obtain distributed propulsive force on entire wiring to reduce the tension. In previous studies, we manually pushed in the wiring into the pipes, which made it difficult to push in the wiring into the pipes in accordance with the VOD-PIG operation. In this study, we developed a mechanism that can push in the wiring in accordance with the movement pattern of the VOD-PIG. We describe an experiment to compare the inspection speeds with and without the developed mechanism. As a result, the inspection speed was 9.7 times faster, which is expected to improve the inspection speed of VOD-PIG.
