Manga is a famous Japanese comic that spread the Japanese culture around the world. Translators, editors and designers around the world work on translating these mangas into many different languages to spread the Japanese culture and introduce them to other cultures. The time it takes to translate an existing Japanese manga is time consuming. Many approaches were suggested in text extraction but a few of them focused in mangas. In this work we propose an automatic method for the detection and extraction of characters within a manga comic page of all types;flat and non-flat. Several image processing techniques are utilized in our method. Text is extracted using the text extraction method followed by the OCR function, which is preceded by the frame content extraction method, which uses a blob extraction function. Our experimental results yielded 100% accuracy in extracting blobs from flat comic images, 90% from non-flat comics, and 90% accuracy in text extraction in both types. In many cases the proposed methodology is 90% faster than conventional methods.

Cardiovascular diseases are one of the leading causes of death in the world. As there are more and more ways to prevent this kind of problem, people must start to take precautions and try, with the help of a doctor or even with some specific information about these problems. As with other diseases, it is important to discover and treat them as early as possible for a better quality of treatment. This paper aims to create an application for tracking and self-report cardiovascular diseases. The application was developed in Android Studio using Kotlin programming language.

In a design model, the UML sequence diagrams typically play a crucial role in explaining the behaviors of the software system by showing the interactions between their objects. Especially, a sequence diagram with state invariants intentionally shows the appropriate runtime states of the objects at the particular points of time in their timelines. In practice, state-dependent behavior for an object is provided. An object responds differently to the same event depending on what state it is in. Moreover, due to the possibility of the hybrid uses of the synchronous and asynchronous interactions in this diagram, the nondeterministic situation may be unfortunately introduced, causing more complex and difficult to verify the final design. In this paper, we propose a formal verification method to ensure the basic properties of the design model drawn in these sequence diagrams with state invariants. A set of transformation rules are proposed to convert the original sequence diagram into its corresponding timed automata. The behaviors of the resulting timed automata would be simulated and verified using UPPAAL tool. Moreover, the behavioral properties, including deadlock, liveness, and safeness, of the design model are also formally verified using timed computation tree logic.

Inverse kinematics is a well-known but mathematically hard problem in robotics. Existing algorithms especially fail at singularities. Unfortunately, being in a singular knee joint position is the usual case for humans. Herein, an acceleration-based approach is proposed, capable of handling arbitrary coordinate transformations, including singular ones. The algorithm is analyzed and evaluated at the hand of a robotic leg.

The importance of supply chain (SC) resilience and performance has been underscored in response to recent disruptions caused by pandemics and other crises. Furthermore, there is a growing recognition of the importance of developments in information processing techniques, notably artificial intelligence (AI), in supporting supply chain risk management (SCRM) as the SC continues to expand towards digitalization, integration, and globalization. Modern organizations need to handle risks within the SC effectively. By examining and utilizing this information, companies can pinpoint potential risks and opportunities for improvement. Consequently, an effective approach is necessary for managing SC data and providing precise predictions to support decision-making. This paper introduces an artificial neural network (ANN) as a predictive tool for risk management within the SC. The ANN model is trained using real-world data obtained from a global automotive manufacturer. Demonstrating strong performance on a dataset comprising 9200 samples, the model exhibits notable accuracy in risk prediction, as indicated by the low mean square error (MSE). The proposed model excels in identifying potential risks within the SC and provides excellent decision support by effectively recognizing potential dangers within the SC. These results significantly improve the SC's capacity for risk prediction, which provides invaluable support for business operations decision-making.

Portuguese teachers are expected to be digitally proficient, however pre-service training in digital competency is not mandatory in Portugal. Recognizing the need to improve prepare teachers for the digital agenda, a postgraduate training program tailored to the specific needs of pre-service English language teachers was developed. To gather insights from pre-service teachers about the perceived benefits and weaknesses of the course module, a qualitative study was carried out, based on the pre-service teachers' responses to an online survey. The results of this study strongly advocate for the implementation of a targeted digital agenda within pre-service teacher education programs.

Public lighting plays an essential role in our communities;it not only provides visibility during the nighttime hours, but also has a significant impact on safety, quality of life, economic activity, and social cohesion in urban areas. Its importance stems from its ability to create secure, attractive, and functional environments for all citizens. Quito's city reports of failures or breakdowns in luminaires or lamp pole are typically obtained from users who detect the issues and the time it takes to resolve the reported problem is high, making the lighting service inefficient for pedestrians and drivers. In the present work, a public lighting maintenance management system has been developed to optimize maintenance tasks for luminaires and lamp pole. This system employs technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), data-driven planning, and automated tracking to improve efficiency, costs reduction, and maintain reliable and safe public illumination. The proposed system includes an IoT device responsible for real-time data collection about the state of luminaires, lamp pole, energy consumption, operation, and other relevant parameters. This is possible due to integrated sensors that detect faults, changes in lighting intensity, and other anomalies. The data collected by the IoT device is transmitted to a broker and stored in a NoSQL database. Subsequently, this information is analyzed using the proposed software, enabling pattern and trend identification, set thresholds and alerts to detect issues like inactive lights, changes in energy consumption, or performance deterioration, planning maintenance, task tracking, and route optimization.

The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the novel coronavirus SARSCoV-2, has emerged as one of the most significant global challenges of the 21st century. COVID-19, however, proved to be particularly contagious and capable of causing severe respiratory distress, leading to a global health crisis. Particularly in the domain of chest X-rays, the science of medical imaging has made great strides in recent years. The use of deep learning and artificial intelligence (AI) has enabled the creation of Conditional Generative Adversarial networks (CGANs), which is just one of many innovations made possible by these approaches. We in this paper here introduced new a way of expanding CXR images dataset using CGANs rather than data augmentation. The models include CGANs with pretrained models like ResNet-101, DenseNet169, and our custom built CGAN with CNN-LSTM. While comparing all the models with each other, CGAN with ResNet-101 as discriminator scored 5.36 generator loss, with discriminator loss at 0.15 for both real and fake images respectively as compared to other CGAN models.

The rising demand for wireless communication systems has led to the exponential growth in the figure of wireless devices. As a result, there is a significant scarcity of available spectrum, which can limit the capacity and quality of wireless communication networks. Cognitive radio (CR) technology is a good solution to this challenge as it enables the most effective use of spectrum resources by permitting wireless devices to dynamically use under-utilized spectrum. This research presents a measurement of real-time spectrum sensing and detection of white space of cognitive wireless technologies for microwave and wireless communication systems of the Federal University of Technology, Minna main campus. Different spectrum sensing techniques including cyclostationary feature detection (CFD), matched filter detection (MFD) and energy detection (ED), have been widely researched. In this research, ED model for enhanced spectrum sensing-based cognitive radio technology that is capable of adapting to changing environmental conditions is adopted. Comprehensive field measurements were carried out in the study area using an 8.5 GHz BK precision 2658A spectrum analyzer (SA). Specifically, a received signal strength (RSS) of 7.3 dBm was obtained at 10 m while at a distance of 1500 m, 143.93 dBm was recorded alongside other similar results. The results were validated by comparing the standard deviation (SD) parameter, and root mean square error (RMSE) based on the adopted ED model with a reference spectrum sensing technique. Thus, the adopted ED technique is a more realistic spectrum sensing technique for microwave and mobile communication systems in the study area and similar environments.
