Collaborative learning as an increasingly used approach in university education creates opportunities for students to learn maximally from each other as well as individually, and develop teamwork skills. During this process, learning takes place in small study groups with the goal to solve a task, while participants support each other, share responsibility, and reflect on their learning process and outcome. This study focuses on the students' experiences of collaborative learning, analyzing two courses at different universities in Estonia. The findings suggest that randomly selected groups create opportunities for the development of individual skills, such as critical thinking or problem-solving skills. Efforts ought to be made by the students as well as lecturers to make learning experiences valuable, such as avoiding the formation of comfort groups based on friendship, giving and receiving feedback, and highlighting the benefits of the learning method. Based on the findings, suggestions are made for learning facilitators to support collaborative learning experiences.

In this paper, we are going to analyze the effectiveness of using machine learning (ML) techniques to improve online education. Nowadays, numerous universities and online education providers have expanded their offerings. For the uninitiated, we can simply refer to online education as distance learning facilitated through the Internet and a computer. Online education, as a component of distance learning, is gaining popularity due to its offerings. In recent years, online education has become an important part of contemporary education. It's important because it allows students to learn or get access to study materials without attending a conventional class at a university or college. It provides more flexibility for students to plan their study time instead of allocating specific hours on behalf of attending class in conventional education. The busier people are the greater the demand for these offerings. High school students, college students, and working adults are all customers of online education. High school students can take online lessons for a variety of reasons: to catch up on needed credits, to accelerate graduation, or to take a college-level course not available at their high school. College students have even more options with online courses, and working adults may be enrolling in an online course for either career enhancement or career change reasons. With the vast target potential of students, online education offers an insurmountable amount of research prospects that could help better understand students and learning in the 21st century. Some of our recent work in cognitive science has been focused on understanding the temporal dynamics of online education using A/B testing and causal inference techniques. This new effort complements this work and uses ML techniques to improve the student's learning experience and efficacy.

The paper thoroughly examines the key benefits and drawbacks of implementing artificial intelligence in higher vocational education. Furthermore, it meticulously analyzes the linguistic and instructional capabilities of ChatGPT within the realm of the teaching process. The research methods include analytical work on various sources and provide methodological strategies for classroom and extracurricular service-learning activities in the foreign language learning process. Study purpose: to assess the viability of implementing ChatGPT in foreign language education and to explore the characteristics and instances of integrating artificial intelligence technologies within the educational sector. Objectives of the study include analyzing the potential of ChatGPT and assessing its applications in university-level foreign language instruction;to consider real cases of artificial intelligence technologies implementation in Ukrainian and foreign universities and to analyze our own experience of its application in foreign language classes. The authors of the article make a convincing conclusion: artificial intelligence is a powerful tool that optimizes a wide range of operations, thereby increasing the efficiency of the organization of the educational process. In response to evolving societal expectations, higher education institutions are increasingly integrating experiential and game-based learning methods to cultivate essential competencies such as communication, collaboration, and problem-solving. This study explores the use of educational escape rooms as an innovative pedagogical tool to foster and measure collaborative problem-solving skills among engineering students. Conducted at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, our research involved the design and implementation of an educational escape room, followed by the analysis of students' interactions and performance. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, we collected and analyzed video recordings of the escape room sessions, alongside data from focus group interviews and several standardized questionnaires. Our findings demonstrate that educational escape rooms effectively engage students and enhance both social and cognitive competencies. The study highlights key factors that distinguish high-performing groups and underscores the potential of escape rooms to provide immersive, challenge-based learning experiences that significantly contribute to the development of collaborative problem-solving skills in higher education.

European universities are embracing this shift through "European Universities", transnational alliances aimed at enhancing academic exchange and innovation. The Unite! alliance, as part of its Erasmus+ project, established the "Community Digital Campus" (Cm.2) to develop a modern digital campus framework. Based on an analysis to identify and document the technological, organizational, and legal needs for such a campus, using desk research, surveys, and stakeholder discussions, key requirements are formulated. Modern specialists in engineering fields need not only deep knowledge but also the ability to use mathematical packages of application programs (MPAP) to solve complex problems. Despite the significant advantages of MPAP, their use in the educational process is limited due to methodological insecurity and lack of knowledge among teachers. In this article, the authors examine the effectiveness of MPAP in the training of specialists and develop methodological recommendations for their integration into the educational process. An analysis of the didactic capabilities of MPAP (MatLab, MatchCad, Mathematica, SciLab, Octave) and an experimental verification of their effectiveness at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics showed that MPAP: increases interest in learning mathematics;provide opportunities for visualization of material, individualization of learning, development of graphic culture, involvement in research work, independent preparation and control of knowledge. The developed methodical recommendations for the integration of MPAP in the educational process will help overcome the problems associated with their use and improve the quality of training of specialists.

In recent years, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into Learning Management systems (LMS) has expanded, though many tools lack alignment with learning environment competencies, causing cognitive overload and diminishing learner motivation. This paper explores integrating an AI-based formative feedback system within an LMS, designed to enhance learner competencies and align with curriculum and learning objectives. Utilizing a self-trained large language model, the system processes predefined teaching materials to deliver efficient formative feedback, minimizing cognitive overload. Our study, involving 450 students from the University of Leipzig, assesses the impact of AI-generated feedback during lectures on learning performance, validated against specified learning objectives and competencies. Results emphasize the importance of incorporating sound pedagogical practices in developing AI tools for adaptive learning environments, demonstrating that AI-driven formative feedback can significantly enhance the efficacy of these environments and achieve educational goals.

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies is driving significant changes across both industry and academia, fostering increased autonomy in various processes. This influence extends to all key stakeholders in the education sector, including students, teachers, and institutions. Previous research suggests that students often use AI tools inappropriately and without adequate knowledge. Addressing this issue, our study investigates the usage patterns of AI tools for homework tasks among programming students at TalTech IT College in Estonia, a leading European country in educational innovation. Our findings reveal a substantial dependence on AI tools, with 74% of students utilizing them for homework. The most frequently used tools are OpenAI's ChatGPT-3 and ChatGPT-4, followed by Microsoft Copilot. The results underscore the positive aspects of AI tool usage from the students' perspective, highlighting the potential benefits these technologies offer in enhancing learning experiences. However, it also points to a significant issue: many students do not cite the use of AI tools in their homework, indicating a need for greater transparency and understanding of ethical AI use. These findings suggest the necessity of integrating regular AI courses at all levels of study to ensure students are well-informed and can use AI responsibly and effectively. Recommendations for researchers include the development of standardized guidelines for AI tool usage in academic settings. The impact on society involves enhancing digital literacy and ethical standards among future professionals. Future research should explore the long-term effects of AI integration in education and its implications for academic integrity.

The aim of this paper is to identify, analyze and visualize the social relationships in a group of students of the practical teaching programe through sociomapping. Furthermore, based on the results of the survey, to present recommendations to academic staff to provide conditions or professional intervention for the development of collaborative learning, effective communication and wellbeing. The empirical survey demonstrated the effectiveness of the 3D sociomapping method, as the visualization of the digital map corresponded with the data obtained through a questionnaire survey focused on the emotional climate and well-being in the classroom. The sample of respondents indicated: (a) two reference groups and their leaders (sociomap);(b) group members perceive each other as a close-knit class and meeting with classmates contributes to mood improvement (well-being in the classroom);(c) group members reflect a high intensity of positive emotions and a low intensity of negative emotions (emotional climate in the classroom). Based on the results of the sociomap, teachers can appropriately create student teams, integrate less engaged students, suitably distribute team tasks, and develop collaborative learning while building a positive emotional climate in the classroom.
