Previous works have introduced digital assistance systems to provide non-machine-learning experts with a low-threshold way to approach the topic of machine learning (ML) in manufacturing environments. According to the literature, those systems are not only suitable for independent use, but also for so-called work-based learning. Literature further suggests that users need to be comprehensively involved in the development process to make the system human-centered. Therefore, this paper presents a procedure how digital assistance systems as medium for work-based learning in the context of ML applications can be extended with regard to human-centered design elements. The procedure follows the systematics of the ISO 9241-210 standard, where each step is taken such that the development is carried out from the perspective of potential future users. The procedure is then transferred to a previously published assistance system, whereby extending it accordingly. The final validation in learning factory workshops concludes that the system now has a measurably better usability. In summary, the research results provide learning factory operators with an innovative approach to empowering non-ML experts to handle ML applications.

The perishable nature of fresh commodities, along with unpredictable demand and fluctuating prices in agriculture supply chains, poses challenges in reducing post-harvest losses. This study proposes a two-stage cause-effect approach to investigate critical criteria and sub-criteria leading to post-harvest losses in the agriculture supply chain in emerging countries, focusing on Vietnam. Spherical fuzzy sets address uncertainty and subjectivity in expert judgment. First, the Spherical fuzzy Delphi method (SF-Delphi) is used to identify significant criteria and sub-criteria. Second, the Spherical fuzzy Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (SF-DEMATEL) method determines relationships among selected factors. Results show transportation as the most significant causal factor, followed by demand forecasting, storage, packaging, and retail. These findings provide guidance for supply chain stakeholders and decision-makers to reduce post-harvest losses and enhance overall supply chain effectiveness.

Recommendation systems have become an indispensable element for online vendors that continiuosly increase their e-commerce activity. On the other hand, customers ask the system to get recommendations for the target product. The quality of the prediction becomes important from accuracy and efficiency point of view. Accuracy and efficiency of prediction may vary depending on different factors. In this study, we implemented k-modes clustering algorithm on a dense dataset called Jester Jokes. We studied effects of eleven binary similarity metrics on the quality of prediction while implementing collaborative filtering approach. The metrics used are: Anderberg (A), Dice (D), Gower2 (G), Hamann (H), Jaccard (J), Kulczynski (K), Ochiai (O), Pearson (P), SimpleMatching (SM), Sokal and Sneath (SS), and Yule (Y). Different numbers of test and train users as well as different number of clusters were tested. To check the quality of predictive performance, the evaluation criteria f-measure and classification accuracy were used. Online durations were also recorded to check the computational efficiency of the system. As a result, G performed the worst from the f-measure point of view. A, H, and Y were also among the worst performers among the metrics. On the other hand, J was giving promising results for most of the experiments. Other similarity metrics had mixed results. In terms of the classification accuracy, all binary similarity metrics had mixed results. From the efficiency standpoint, only SS performed good in all experiments. H, P, SM, and Y were among the better performers in most experiments. On the other hand, D, G, J, K, and O were among the worst performers. A similarity metric provided mixed performance. Our study is one of the first studies comparing numerous binary similarity metrics for recommender systems based on both predictive and computation performance.

This research intends to validate the self-tuning test developed by Astrom and Hagglund in 1984, known as the relay feedback method, with the self-tuning used by the industrial level Programmable Logic Controllers. The methodology used was experimental, analysis and diagnostic;a series of measurements of the process (monovariable level) was obtained in open loop, by means of a Datalog, in csv format, for the treatment and obtaining of the model of space - state and thus to obtain the function of transference. The results of the calculation of the values of the constants Proportional gain, Integration constant and Derivation constant, were modeled in the application of the relay method (Astrom and Hagglund), to then load these parameters in the Simulink Proportional, Integral y Derivative_Controller and thus obtain as response the tuning curve of the process in simulated form;finally, these same constant values are entered manually as well as automatically in the Proportional, Integral y Derivative_Compact Version 2 of Tia Portal V16. The automatic tuning curve, as a response of the Proportional Integral and Derivate Optimizer, causes a much smoother behavior of the industrial process against set point changes as well as disturbances, with maximum values of over pulse, stabilization time and error within normalized ranges, because by Programmable logic controller design Proportional, Integral y Derivative_Compact Version 2 use weighting coefficients for both Proportional and Derivative Action, making the tuning resulting from the process much finer, generating the values of constants and weighting coefficients automatically.

Within this study, four frequently utilized synchronization algorithms designed for Inverters, serving as the power conditioner in grid-connected renewable systems, are outlined. It includes in depth analyses of the algorithmic structures, complemented by detailed explanations through corresponding block diagrams. The research scrutinizes the behaviors of these algorithms, with a specific focus on their reactions to voltage imbalances, frequency variations, and voltage harmonics. Additionally, a comprehensive discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of each algorithm is provided, supported by a thorough analysis of simulations conducted using MATLAB/SIMULINK.

A valid precision grasp pose can be seen as a combination of relative pose between the palm and the object, contact points of fingertips and joint angles for each fingertip to reach the contact point. In this paper, point clouds of fingertip workspaces under the palm coordinate system are utilized to bind all the above mentioned information within one representation. To speed up grasp pose generation, point clouds of workspaces are preprocessed based on precision grasp configurations. Finally, a sampling based method is proposed to generate precision grasp poses for multi-fingered robotic hands. Experiments have been done in both simulation and real world to verify that our methods can be applied for precision grasp pose generation on robotic hands with various structures.

Chaotic time series is derived from nonlinear dynamical systems which form the basis of real-life time series. This work focuses on classifying the chaotic time series by converting it into an image and using the image as input to a Convolutional Neural Network. The time series is converted to Gramian Angular Field images. Three chaotic time series-Henon, Ikeda, and Tinkerbell-are used in this work. Four CNNs are trained-three binary classifiers for each time series and a general classifier. The best output from the binary classifiers is selected and compared with the results of the general classifier. The final output is decided by the similarity of the two answers. This method has shown accuracy over 99.5% which strongly supports the potential for classification based on time-series imaging techniques.

Image denoising is a critical task in image processing that involves the removal of noise or unwanted distortions from an image while preserving its essential features. Most of the commonly captured pictures are obtained using mobile cameras or CCTV surveillance cameras producing video footage of the activities of people who are stationary or in motion. There is a need to restore such captured footage from noise so that it can become evidence for different criminal cases. Denoising face images captured using CCTV is a challenging task due to fine details being affected by noise. In this paper, we evaluate three image denoising techniques Block-Matching and 3D (BM3D), k-Means Singular Value Decomposition (KSVD), and Weighted Nuclear Norm Minimization (WNNM). The performance of these methods is analyzed using Mean Squared Error (MSE), Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), Structural Similarity Index (SSIM), and Visual Information Fidelity (VIF). It is observed that the overall performance of KSVD is better for a Gaussian and Salt and Pepper noise.

This paper expounds about adaptive traffic signals system (ATSS) by applying artificial intelligence and machine learning models. In order to improve emergency response times and guarantee the safety of both the general public and emergency responders, effective traffic management is essential. Machine-learning models describe the traffic situation by capturing data using advanced camera and uses algorithm to changes the traffic lights to green signal for emergency vehicles (EV) dynamically in real time and effectively. The EV approach is determined using object detection camera, RFID and inbuilt GPS radar present in the EV. This paper also presents a real-time EV alert in the real-time map service providers alerting the drivers to give way for the EV in advance. The research's findings highlight the potential advantages of ATSS systems for EV in cities. The adaptive system exhibits a notable decrease in emergency response times, potentially enhancing public safety and reducing the severity of critical incidents. The report also emphasizes the significance of data-driven decision-making in traffic management and the potential for technology to change how emergency services are provided in crowded urban areas.

The problem of detecting the heterogeneous image of a spatially extended object observed against Gaussian white noise is considered. It is assumed that the image location and intensity distribution are a priori unknown, but they can be predicted with some error. In order to synthesize the detection algorithm, the quasi-likelihood version of the maximum likelihood method is used. According to this approach, in the expression for the decision determining statistics, the unknown image intensity is replaced with some expected (i.e., predicted) one. Further, the decision determining statistics are maximized over the unknown image location. Subsequently, its maximum value is found, and then it is compared with a threshold selected in accordance with the accepted optimality criterion. To determine the detection quality, the behavior of the deterministic and noise components of the quasi-likelihood receiver output signal in the neighborhood of the real image location is studied. The false alarm and image missing probabilities characterize the detection process, and, in this study, they are determined by means of the local Markov approximation method. The heterogeneity of the received signal, as well as a priori ignorance of its intensity distribution, influences the detection quality. It is demonstrated by the case of receiving a rectangular image with linearly varying intensity while an image with homogeneous intensity is expected.
