The Internet of Things (IoT) innovation is crucial in the interconnection and automation of many physical devices, automobiles, home machines, and other objects. Software, various sensors, and actuators help these objects associate and handle information (Ramaswamy in IoT smart parking system for reducing green house gas emission. IEEE, pp. 1-6, 2016 [1];Mainetti et al. in Integration of RFID and WSN technologies in a smart parking system. IEEE, pp. 104-110, 2014 [2];Sari et al. in IOP Conf Ser Mater Sci Eng 190, 2017;Mahendra et al. in IOT based sensor enabled smart car parking for advanced driver assistance system. IEEE, pp. 2188-2193, 2017 [3]). The automation of devices, which is a future requirement, raises the level of living for humans. A smart automobile parking system that enables a motorist to find a parking space and a free slot in that parking space inside of a city is one example of a need that was discussed in the research. The paper suggests an intuitive parking system for vehicles that makes use of Raspberry Pi and many more hardwares (Mainetti et al. in Integration of RFID and WSN technologies in a smart parking system. IEEE, pp. 104-110, 2014 [2]). The goal of this study is to cut down on the time wasted looking for parking. Finding a spot to park the car is becoming more and more difficult as problems such as car overloads and the exponential growth in the number of cars and people become more and more prevalent. Other issues include vehicle accessibility, use, and beginning late. In the research is concerned with developing a reliable system that accepts responsibility for the task of identifying open spaces in a parking lot and maintaining a meticulous record of the vehicles that have been abandoned. The anticipated system reduces human effort at the parking area generally, for instance, in cases when the driver is seeking for open slots and figuring out how much space each car will need. Smart classrooms are physical learning spaces equipped with ambient intelligence systems designed to collect data about the physical context, students, and teachers. They provide the latter with timely insights into the teaching and learning processes and help them make informed decisions. Key enablers for smart classrooms include sensors, ubiquitous computing systems, artificial intelligence, and computer vision techniques, among others. Despite numerous theoretical proposals in the literature aimed at various purposes, smart classrooms are not yet a plausible reality. This paper explores the challenges associated with designing and deploying smart classrooms and provides a comprehensive practical guide to help practitioners overcome these obstacles and advance the realisation of smart classrooms in real-world settings.

The proliferation of ubiquitous and pervasive computing environments and IoT devices has sparked a fundamental shift toward interactive display technologies for group collaborations. With the use of devices like smartphones and gesture recognition systems, the potential for seamless user interfaces on public displays has become a key focus for research. This paper aims to propose a novel framework that facilitates multi-user interaction and collaboration with public displays through the integration of the "Multi-Mouse Framework" and smartphones. The paper presents an extensive literature review and comparative study. The paper utilizes the Multi-Mouse Library of public display groupware to enable control of mouse pointers on public displays via the Mobile-Mouse program. Such a setup enables a range of innovative applications, including collaborative group work and interactive e-learning tools that ultimately serve to save valuable resources such as time and energy. Our findings suggest that the proposed framework represents a significant step forward in the development of next-generation technologies in this exciting research area.

This paper presents an analysis of Chirp Spread Spectrum (CSS) for Internet of Things (IoT) applications, focusing on the performance of coherent and non-coherent detectors in various channel environments. The study evaluates scenarios with additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), frequency-selective channels, and Rayleigh fading channels, considering a system with 10 receiving antennas. The results demonstrate that the coherent detector outperforms the non-coherent detector in terms of performance. However, the non-coherent detector offers the advantage of lower complexity. To further improve the performance of non-coherent detection in CSS-based IoT systems, the need for exploring new techniques is emphasized. Future research should aim to bridge the performance gap between coherent and non-coherent detection, considering adaptive signal processing algorithms, advanced filtering techniques, or hybrid detection schemes. By addressing the challenges associated with non-coherent detection, CSS can become a reliable and efficient modulation scheme for low signal-to-noise ratio conditions in IoT applications. This research contributes to the advancement of CSS in IoT, enabling seamless connectivity and data exchange in diverse IoT scenarios.

Neural networks and deep learning are in rapid development;new technologies and increasingly high-performance computing centres allow operations to be carried out that, until a few years ago, were impossible due to excessive processing times. The possibility of exploiting an Edge/Cloud configuration allows speed in training neural networks, ability to operate in real-time, elasticity, and resistance of the entire system in the event of a failure. This configuration helps reduce costs by using less expensive tools in the sensing and edge regions. In this work, an edge computing system was implemented to recognise wild animals such as goats and wild boars. The image recognition problem was therefore addressed by exploiting transfer learning techniques on two state-of-the-art methods: YOLOv5 and EfficientNet. The comparison of the results highlighted the pros and cons of the two methods.

Although wheeled robots have been predominant for planetary exploration, their geometry limits their capabilities when traveling over steep slopes, through rocky terrains, and in microgravity. Legged robots equipped with grippers are a viable alternative to overcome these obstacles. This paper proposes a gripping system that can provide legged space-explorer robots a reliable anchor on uneven rocky terrain. This gripper provides the benefits of soft gripping technology by using segmented tendon-driven fingers to adapt to the target shape, and creates a strong adhesion to rocky surfaces with the help of microspines. The gripping performances are showcased, and multiple experiments demonstrate the impact of the pulling angle, target shape, spine configuration, and actuation power on the performances. The results show that the proposed gripper can be a suitable solution for advanced space exploration, including climbing, lunar caves, or exploration of the surface of asteroids.

Training data has a significant impact on the performance of artificial neural network (ANN) models. This becomes evident when the model is used in a variable environment with input data featuring a changing distribution, leading to a low reliable prediction. To address this problem, we propose to move away from the deterministic nature of theANNand introduce a non-deterministic information module. We aim to enable the model to adapt to distributional changes in the data during the deployment phase based on auxiliary sensory information. We parameterize the weights of the model with an information module that updates their values automatically based on auxiliary sensory information to compensate for the changes in distribution. The update of the weights is made online by a regulator. This means that retraining is not necessary. Furthermore, we show that the proposed information module can be easily integrated into commonly used ANN models. Finally, the results of case studies show the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed approach that yields more reliable predictions.

Tasks in the field of computer vision are mostly led by convolutional neural networks (CNNs) (Aamir et al. in Electronics 11(1), 2022 [1]), however, understanding and interpreting the information within these networks remains a challenge. To gain a deeper understanding of how a network learns and functions, it is imperative to develop visualization tools to address these complex structures. This area remains a crucial point of research to advance the understanding of deep neural network operations. Therefore, this paper presents a comprehensive review aimed at establishing the fundamental framework of the methodologies employed in the visualization of hidden layers in CNNs. Approaches such as activation maximization, hidden layer feature analysis, and post hoc visualization techniques are specifically addressed. The focus is on the application of CNN in cancer diagnostics, evaluating the feasibility and utility of hidden layer visualization methodologies in this context. As a future perspective, research and development of a layered visualization model that optimizes the performance of neural networks in medical image analysis is proposed.

To effectively conduct decision-centric warfare, having access to intelligent decision support technology is important, which can rapidly and accurately analyze threats on the battlefield using artificial intelligence (AI). Considering this, our current focus lies in the development of AI - command decision support for ground operation (AICDS-G) technology that can assist commanders in planning operations. This study outlines novel fuzzy logic-based methods and presents the experimental results obtained using these methods to assess the vulnerability of enemy threats in AICDS-G technology. In AICDS-G technology, we use artificial neural network models to evaluate enemy threat levels by identifying adversary behavior and predicting the probability of adversary threats. However, to conduct a practical threat assessment, it is also necessary to consider the vulnerability of friendly forces to enemy forces. To assess the vulnerability of friendly forces, we propose fuzzy logics using the capability and relationship variables for both forces. The vulnerability analysis of capability factors in variables such as firepower and the effective range, whereas the vulnerability analysis of relationship considers proximity variables related to the location and distance of forces. The proposed vulnerability analysis has been validated through experiments conducted on battlefield simulations. The resultant vulnerability data will be used to analyze enemy threats in AICDS-G technology.

The fundamental applications of handwritten digit classification are in the fields of optical reorganization of digits, bank check processing, recognizing zip codes on mail for postal, processing bank check amounts, and numeric entries in forms filled up by hand. For processing these types of tasks, different kinds of learning algorithms are used. A comparative study on performance analysis was done for convolutional neural network, LeNet-5, and YOLOv7. Publically available MNIST, DIDA, and MNIST MIX handwritten digit dataset were used in experimental work. The objective of this study is to find the best algorithm which can give an acceptable accuracy. To implement the model, this paper uses a deep neural network CNN and its architecture LeNet-5 and YOLOv7 which have become a potent tool for image categorization problems in recent years. This paper demonstrates the efficacy of deep learning approaches for effective and precise digit recognition, which can be expanded to numerous real-world applications needing accurate and dependable recognition of digits written on paper. This research has achieved the highest accuracy of 99.38% for LeNet-5.
