Ultrasonic guided waves are an effective method for detecting structural damage and characterizing material properties across various structures. However, their sensitivity to environmental and operational conditions can impact measurement reliability. This study integrates ultrasonic guided waves with a pre-trained ResNet architecture and a K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) algorithm to address inverse problems and determine the material properties of multilayered composite plates. By leveraging advanced machine learning techniques and data-driven models, we accurately predict material properties such as mass density, shear modulus, and Lame's constant. Our approach involves generating dispersion curves, utilizing the pre-trained ResNet model for feature extraction, and applying KNN for classification, validated by data from analytical models. The results demonstrate that our proposed machine learning model significantly enhances the efficiency and accuracy of material property determination, providing a promising tool for the rapid and non-destructive evaluation of multilayer structures.

Slippery, sandy, or collapsing terrains still represent a challenging scenario for quadruped locomotion. Mainly in situations where not a single robot failure is admissible. In this paper, we propose a new control structure that combines well-known optimization-based strategies applied to legged motion control, i.e. whole-body controllers (WBC), with indirect force control strategies, i.e. impedance control, to increase quadruped locomotion robustness when navigating on such terrains. The proposed strategy is mainly designed for gaits that allow for statically stable locomotion and its core aspect lies in the maintenance of the locomotion support polygon. We introduce a new assessment metric and extensively evaluate the controller performance through simulation and experimental trials using a Unitree's Aliengo quadruped robot.

This paper proposes a benchmark for the bus stops spacing problem based on real-data and agent based simulation. An instance of the benchmark is created using a standard pipeline in order to have a reproducible scenario that can be adapted to other cities. The pipeline is based on the MATSim simulator and related tools. As an example, we show the details of the pipeline for the city of Calais from open source raw data for the computation of an objective function to optimize. The potential of such approach in terms of fair optimization algorithms comparison is discussed, and the code used to design our benchmark instance is also shared with the goal to later generalizing it.

Decision support systems are used in a variety of fields. This paper considers a class of multisubject decision support systems with a geo-interface. The users of such systems are decision makers. The main purpose of any decision support system is to provide the information required by the user. In other words, the decision support system should satisfy the information needs of the user. To make this process more efficient, it is necessary to have a model of the user's information needs. This paper describes a model and a formalised iterative procedure for satisfying the user's information needs. This model is developed on the basis of thesaurus approach and allows to use original pragmatic and semantic evaluations of informativeness of spatial data. The methods of system analysis and ontological design, as well as methods of calculating the semantic similarity of concepts for thesauruses of the system and the user were used to create the model. The description of the user information needs model is based on the mathematical apparatus of set theory. The obtained results can be useful for solving the problem of creating effective methods of human-computer interaction. The use of the model and procedure for satisfying the user's information needs in the development of decision support systems allows to increase the efficiency of user interaction with the system to solve various applied problems.

This paper presents a formal approach to the modeling of natural phenomena regardless of themathematical, statistical or computationalmethods used. This framework makes it possible to face the initial difficulty of lack of knowledge in the face of little-studied or complex behavior phenomena. For this, a modular approach is carried out that guides from the external observation until reaching the level of the variables that have to appear in the futuremathematical-computational treatment. This approach has been successfully tested in our previous research and provides a useful tool due to its modularity to face complex phenomena modelling.

Fossil fuels dominate the energy sector, but their exhausting reserves and adverse effect on the environment has encouraged search for renewable resources. Animal waste is one such renewable resource which can be used for producing biogas by the process of anaerobic digestion. Several factors like temperature, pH value, moisture content, etc. affect biogas production. This paper proposes a biogas-producing system in village Wazirpur situated in Delhi NCR. This village is having 400 buffalos, and their dung can be collected efficiently and used for producing biogas. Biomass digester is automated with manual task only limited to putting dung in the collecting tank. Automated system is controlled by Mitsubishi Electric's FX5U programmable logic controller which mixes the dung with water, feeds to the digester, and optimizes the factors affecting biogas production. The proposed system produces 334.8 to 428 m3 biogas daily. This biogas is used as fuel for biogas genset, and the generation system is simulated in Homer in grid connected mode, giving 58,692 kWh energy annually. Net present cost and cost of energy are having negative values indicating the costs are recovered in project's lifetime.

A model to classify documents into their categories and use them as per needs as in all the industrial documentation is needed to keep track of their employees documents and it is a frequent happening where all the documents get mixed up into each other and result in a lot of trouble and delay and leads to incurring a cost to the organization;the model presented in this paper offers a solution to this issue. A novel algorithm is implemented to tune the hyperparameter using a CNN Model as its basis using hence, created parameters to classify documents into their categories and making it easier to maintain we achieved an 81% average accuracy score which might be because of different countries belonging the datasets which have different structures as well as we have used one hot encoding which gives it a nice scope to be directly used to scale up and use in larger scale scenarios. Further, we implemented different machine learning models which provided us with a reliable accuracy of 94 percent which also proves that in a few cases, machine learning can outperform deep learning. Also it further gives us a great implacable model for real-life use cases.

There has been a rise in the last years of different types of agents that interact with humans, be it for educational or healthcare purposes, among others. In pursuit of making these agents better and more engaging, they are presenting more traits which we commonly associate with humans, such as affect or proactivity. Within these traits we can find empathy, the ability to relate to others and feel their emotions and struggles as our own. In this paper, we aim to explore the presence of empathy in agents, and how this has been implemented so far. We also want to observe if there is a unified approach to the definition and evaluation of empathy in agents, so as to proceed within a clear framework when implementing such systems in the future.

This work describes the documentary synthesis of the design and adaptation of an industrial environment of an automatic car washing machine with tunnel type structure. The same one that has four stations properly distributed, with respect to the time and operation of the mechanisms of the washer with the objective of improving the operation of the system and saving water. This automated industrial process is virtualized in the graphic development platform Unity for its adaptation to a Hardware in the Loop (HIL) control loop. The whole process is carried out by means of a programming logic unit (PLC);considering an automatic control of the stations carried out in LOGOSOFT software. The communication of the network is made by means of an Ethernet architecture based on TCP-IP, in addition the use of the MQTT communication protocol is presented based on its fluidity, simplicity and lightness that makes it suitable for its use in programmable controllers, the communication network is designed in Node-Network.

This study delves into the intricacies of SIoT networks, characterized by diverse data modalities, sensor data, device interactions, and social connections. In order to address evolving threats, a comprehensive approach is proposed, integrating advanced ML models-Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Generative Adversarial Network (GAN), Logistic Regression (LR)- in order to detect intrusions in SIoT environments. The method encompasses rigorous data collection, preprocessing, feature selection, and model training. Performance evaluation reveals CNN + GAN's superiority with an 85% accuracy, surpassing other models. Detailed metrics include precision, accuracy, recall, ROC AUC, and F1-score, emphasizing the effectiveness of the proposed approach. This research significantly advances SIoT security, offering insights crucial for designing secure and resilient networks in the increasingly interconnected landscape.
