We describe a fully integrated blackjack dealing robot system utilizing multimodal input to interact with human players. It can deal cards to players and visually detect which cards have been played. Furthermore, it detects gestures commonly used in blackjack, such as knocking and swiping performed by human players to indicate whether they would like to receive another card. Both, visual and auditory input of the players is processed to achieve robust detection. We demonstrate robust and unobtrusive gameplay. In recent years, the mortality rate in Latin America and the Caribbean has seen a steady increase. Ecuador has experienced a rising trend in mortality rates since 2014, with a 0.16% increase until 2019, followed by a remarkable 57.44% surge in 2020, primarily attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in 2021, the mortality rate decreased to 6.72%, marking a notable departure from the previous year. Effective healthcare policy planning demands accurate mortality projections, yet Ecuador needs official information regarding future mortality trends. This study addresses this gap by leveraging machine learning techniques to predict mortality patterns and investigating the underlying causes and trends to support informed governmental decision-making. The research rationale lies in the critical need for precise mortality data to guide public health policies effectively. Predictive models based on historical data are pivotal for anticipating mortality trends and comprehending their root causes. This, in turn, facilitates the development of targeted healthcare programs and policies that cater to the population's needs and ultimately enhance the overall quality of life. The overarching objectives of the study encompass analyzing the evolution of mortality rates and their causes in Ecuador. The findings of this study could furnish invaluable insights for the formulation and execution of evidence-based public policies in the realm of healthcare. This study exemplifies the utility of machine learning in mortality analysis and policy planning, demonstrating its capacity to inform governmental decisions and shape effective public health policies in the Ecuadorian context.

Benchmarks play a crucial role in enhancing systems, applications, and technologies across multiple domains. In scientific computing, traditional benchmarks such as HPL (High-Performance Linpack) require parameters such as the number of processes, input data size, and other execution details to reflect the characteristics of the system under test, which leads to the adoption of fine-tuning strategies. In this sense, this paper presents a novel implementation of the HPL, originally used for evaluating distributed-memory parallel architectures. The proposed benchmark, named SA-HPL, enhances HPL with self-adaptive features to facilitate the evaluation of shared-memory parallel architectures. The inclusion of novel schedulers for dynamic task parallelism, combined with simplified configuration settings, makes the SA-HPL well-suited to provide enhanced performance and efficiency without requiring fine-tuning configurations. Results show that our approach improves the throughput to 19534.50 MFLOPS and maintains an efficiency level of 74.70% compared to the baseline (with unbalanced workload) in a workstation setup, which recorded 16267.60 MFLOPS and 61.23%, respectively.

With the rapid development of online social networks (OSNs), a huge number of information provided by some entities around the world are well dispersed in OSNs every day. Most of those are useful but not all as anomalous entities utilize anomaly users to spread malicious content (like spam or rumors to achieve their pecuniary or political aims). In this paper, we propose a mechanism to detect such anomaly users according to the user profile and tweet content of each user. We design several features related to near-duplicate content (including lexical similarity and semantic similarity) to enhance the precision of detecting anomaly users. Utilizing the data by public honeypot dataset, the proposed approach deals with supervised learning approach to carry out the detection task.

The decline in student attendance and engagement in Higher Education (HE) is a pressing concern for educational institutions worldwide. Traditional lecture-style teaching is no longer effective, and students often become disinterested and miss classes, impeding their academic progress. While Gamification has improved learning outcomes, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to revolutionise the educational experience. The combination of AI and Gamification offers numerous research opportunities and paves the way for updated academic approaches to increase student engagement and attendance. Extensive research has been conducted to uncover the correlation between student attendance and engagement in HE. Studies consistently reveal that regular attendance leads to better academic performance. On the other hand, absenteeism can lead to disengagement and poor academic performance, stunting a student's growth and success. This position paper proposes integrating Gamification and AI to improve attendance and engagement. The approach involves incorporating game-like elements into the learning process to make it more interactive and rewarding. AI-powered tools can track student progress and provide personalised feedback, motivating students to stay engaged. This approach fosters a more engaging and fruitful educational journey, leading to better learning outcomes. This position paper will inspire further research in AI-Gamification integration, leading to innovative teaching methods that enhance student engagement and attendance in HE.

The process of aging is a universal phenomenon that eventually impacts individuals in many ways. The issue of caring for and providing assistance to elderly individuals is becoming more pertinent, particularly in light of the projected 40 percent increase in the population aged 60 and above over the next decade. Within an elderly individual, each stage of life is retained. An octogenarian's mind may simultaneously harbor the essence of a young girl, a rebellious adolescent, a weary caretaker, and an accomplished someone in their prime. Life is replete with memories, including both moments of joy and sorrow. These diverse experiences contribute to the individuality of each person. Hence, it is crucial to assess each individual separately. This initiative prioritizes the person and utilizes technology to alleviate the unavoidable challenges of aging by empowering older adults with more control and understanding of their care. The outcome of this project is a comprehensive analysis of the use of welfare technology in the residence of elderly people, to establish a secure environment and optimize user interaction. The presentation consists of two deliverables: a conceptualization of the eventual product and an external booklet with a collection of tools. The pamphlet serves as a derivative of the project, providing a concise overview of key aspects of the process and establishing a framework with integrated tools for future idea creation in the field of welfare technology. The foundation of this thesis's idea and booklet is derived from extensive analysis of literature, input from stakeholders, and feedback from users. The content is intended to cater to a diverse group of individuals, while specifically considering the needs of those undergoing the natural process of aging.

Graphic images have accompanied the human since ancient times. Rock images, that preceded the written documents have reached us, and they inform us until nowadays for the evolution of humanity. The presentation and processing of information in graphic form, accompanies modern specialists and is an indispensable assistant for their work. The use of graphics software is an integral part of the skills, that modern engineers must possess. This paper proposes a new application of graphical representations in solving statics problems. The purpose of the proposed solution is to make the discipline of statics, which seriously hinders those who studying it, more clear and easy to perceive. A method for determining the moments of forces about a point, through the faces of rectangles is proposed. It is called the method of the rectangles. The summation of the faces on the individual rectangles is made in AutoCAD environment. This makes it possible to calculate the magnitude of any support reaction, by balancing its moment about an arbitrary point to the moment, about the same point of all other forces acting on the body.

In the field of scientific research, the quest for understanding and explaining complex phenomena often involves uncovering patterns and underlying structures. To achieve this, researchers employ various methodologies and approaches. One such approach gaining increasing attention is the utilization of the Kolmogorov-Chaitin complexity (KCC). As a fundamental concept in information theory, KCC measures the information required to describe a particular object or data set. While initially defined for discrete data, recent advances have extended the concept to continuous data. This article aims to explore the estimation of Kolmogorov-Chaitin complexity on continuous biomedical data. It uses two publicly available data sets of large dimensions: the first consists of more than 400 h of EEG recordings, and the second includes over 40000 cases of sepsis and non-sepsis cases from the intensive care unit, in both cases as multivariate/multimodal time series. The estimation of KCC is a crucial procedure applied to these data. The results are subsequently used for machine learning (ML) purposes with the goal of prediction/classification. The ML models' performance using this approach exceeds 0.95 by the area under the ROC curve.

This study evaluates the nosocomial infection control committee (NICC) with a view to new governance, organisational performance and hospital efficiency. To this end, we conducted action research in university hospital of Marrakesh with the objective of identifying the organisational shortcomings and deficiencies of the nosocomial infection control committee (NICC). A critical analysis of the results using the NVivo software revealed that the root of these dysfunctions liesmainly in the lack of management of information flows and coordination between the various players on the committee, as well as the under-use of information systems in decision-making. In anticipation of the results of this study, we have proposed the development of a computer tool for managing infectious risks in the operating theatre, given its high frequency as a preliminary step. To this end, we conducted a collective project, which was enriched by proposals and recommendations from the future medical and nursing team of the university hospital. This was done as part of a participatory and collegial governance approach, with the objective of establishing from the outset a comprehensive, functional and scalable software.
