The incorporation of carbon fiber reinforcement into polymer components manufactured via Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) or Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) processes presents an opportunity to substitute traditional metal parts, yielding substantial resource savings. To address the outstanding concerns pertaining to mechanical strength, functional adequacy, and reliability, this study endeavors to redesign mechanical fittings tailored for industrial applications. Specifically, it focuses on exploiting polymeric composites processed through additive manufacturing (AM) as replacements for aluminum materials.

The modern vehicle is increasingly becoming a part of the Internet of Things (IoT). Video or audio streaming from cloud resources are already state-of-the-art. However, vehicle connectivity opens up even more possibilities by extending the vehicle's electrical/electronic architecture (E/E architecture) to the cloud. That said, vehicle functions that are currently deployed and calculated on onboard electronic control units (ECUs) can be offloaded to the cloud. Not every function is implementable in the cloud. The implementation of motor control in the cloud seems unrealistic without a doubt. It is therefore necessary to identify the relevant requirements for a function to decide on the technical feasibility and suitability for offloading a function to the cloud. This paper proposes a stepwise process that classifies the technical feasibility and then calculates the degree of suitability based on defined quantitative and qualitative evaluation grades. The suitability is assessed with a weighted scoring system. The process is finally applied using the vehicle functions that we have found within the E/E architecture of a modern premium vehicle, and the most suitable functions for offloading are identified.

This research explores the application of text summarization and sentiment analysis techniques in the multiclass classification of hourly stock price returns, studying six companies from the Dow Jones Index between 2017 and the first quarter of 2020. The study employs three distinct text summarization methods to efficiently process a substantial volume of financial news. This approach enhances the depth and accuracy of subsequent sentiment analysis. Sentiment is assessed through a combination of lexicon-based and deep learning methods. These insights, along with technical market data, are integrated into a Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LGBM) model, which is refined through Bayesian hyperparameter optimization and assessed via cross-validation. The results demonstrate that the model's performance peaks at a standard deviation coefficient of 0.25, indicating an optimal balance for the three-class classification problem. Furthermore, the feature importance analysis reveals that while temporal and market-related factors play a significant role, sentiment features captured by FinBERT and VADER substantially contribute to the model's predictive power. A notable finding of this research is the superior performance of FinBERT over GPT-3.5 in feature importance analysis, underscoring the efficacy of specialized language models in financial contexts. By marrying natural language processing techniques with machine learning, the study presents a novel approach to understanding the predictive power of news sentiment in financial markets.

To handle dynamic and static situations in robots using deep learning, the behavior of dynamic obstacles is manually modeled. This is limited in generating diverse situations and does not account for improvements in the ego agent's policy during training. To address these limitations, a method has been proposed that involves training by modeling the dynamic obstacle's behavior as the adversarial agent policy. However, this method has been applied only to reinforcement learning, not to the data aggregation (DAgger) algorithm that repeats imitation learning. Thus, this paper proposes a novel DAgger training framework that adopts an adversarial agent policy having a competitive relationship with the ego agent policy. The adversarial agent policy is trained to aggregate data of various and non-redundant dynamic situations, taking into account the gradually improving performance of the ego agent's policy. The proposed method was applied to autonomous driving and obtained a safer ego agent policy than a policy trained without the adversarial agent policy.

The focus of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) on the development of a responsive and adaptable production system, taking into account the socio-technical approach. This is due to the growing interest in the Internet of Things (IoT), the lower cost of acquiring and deploying digital technologies and the necessary IT infrastructure, and their gradual integration into industrial production processes. In the workshops presented in this paper, which can take place both in the company and in the Learning and Research Factory (LFF) of the Chair of Production systems (LPS) in Bochum, the stakeholders and interest representatives of the company are involved in the joint development of an agenda for human-centred implementation in the pilot area. It is focusing on employee knowledge and support systems, stress and strain, and a planning module for the flexible deployment of employees. This article outlines the possibilities of organisational change in relation to work flexibility from the perspective of the socio-technical systems approach. This perspective on work flexibility is examined in terms of its suitability for human-centred and participative design in the context of flexible production planning. The suitability of learning factories as a location for the workshop concept will be explored and their role as practical pilot areas evaluated. Additionally, future work will be discussed in the concluding outlook.

Businesses and customers can gain valuable information from product reviews. The sheer number of reviews often necessitates ranking them based on their potential helpfulness. However, only a few reviews ever receive any helpfulness votes on online marketplaces. Sorting all reviews based on the few existing votes can cause helpful reviews to go unnoticed because of the limited attention span of readers. The problem of review helpfulness prediction is even more important for higher review volumes, and newly written reviews or launched products. In this work we compare the use of RoBERTa and XLM-R language models to predict the helpfulness of online product reviews. The contributions of our work in relation to literature include extensively investigating the efficacy of state-of-the-art language models-both monolingual and multilingual-against a robust baseline, taking ranking metrics into account when assessing these approaches, and assessing multilingual models for the first time. We employ the Amazon review dataset for our experiments. According to our study on several product categories, multilingual and monolingual pre-trained language models outperform the baseline that utilizes random forest with handcrafted features as much as 23% in RMSE. Pre-trained language models reduce the need for complex text feature engineering. However, our results suggest that pre-trained multilingual models may not be used for fine-tuning only one language. We assess the performance of language models with and without additional features. Our results show that including additional features like product rating by the reviewer can further help the predictive methods.

Modal control was introduced in the second half of the last century to reduce structure vibrations actively. This concept was forced by the spill-over phenomenon, i.e., the escape of the control signal energy to higher modes of natural vibrations, which resulted in the system's loss of stability. With the concept of modal control, a modal filter MF was developed, which allowed for removing components related to selected modes from the vibration response of an object. Although it had some drawbacks, the modal filter performed well in preparing data for modal control (better than previously used state observers). One of the problems was filtration's effectiveness in changing the object's dynamic parameters (e.g., a change in ambient temperature causing a change in Young's modulus). The adaptive modal filter AMF was developed in the early 90s of the XX century to extend the modal filter to enable modal control for structures with parameters changing over time. One of the features of the AMF approach is the necessity to operate on a large grid of measuring sensors, which severely limits the method's applicability at that time. In the current state of technology, high-speed cameras are increasingly used, which allow for the simultaneous measurement of vibrations of many points in a structure. This measuring technique has several advantages: relatively low complexity of the measuring system, simultaneous measurement of many points, and non-contact measurement. In the paper, the authors check the effectiveness of applying vision measurements for AMF synthesis. In the first step, appropriate software was prepared in the MATLAB environment, and its correct functioning was checked using simulation data. Then, a laboratory experiment was carried out with simultaneous vision and accelerometric measurements, and the data obtained were successfully subjected to AMF.

Explainability in yield prediction helps us fully explore the potential of machine learning models that are already able to achieve high accuracy for a variety of yield prediction scenarios. The data included for the prediction of yields are intricate and the models are often difficult to understand. However, understanding the models can be simplified by using natural groupings of the input features. Grouping can be achieved, for example, by the time the features are captured or by the sensor used to do so. The state-of-the-art for interpreting machine learning models is currently defined by the game-theoretic approach of Shapley values. To handle groups of features, the calculated Shapley values are typically added together, ignoring the theoretical limitations of this approach. We explain the concept of Shapley values directly computed for predefined groups of features and introduce an algorithm to compute them efficiently on tree structures. We provide a blueprint for designing swarm plots that combine many local explanations for global understanding. Extensive evaluation of two different yield prediction problems shows the worth of our approach and demonstrates how we can enable a better understanding of yield prediction models in the future, ultimately leading to mutual enrichment of research and application.

Features of Using Neural Network Methods to Predict the Total Electron Content of the Ionosphere in the Southern Hemisphere 1

Research of the behavior, as well as solving the problem of predicting the total electron content of the TEC of the ionosphere, is of great importance for studying and taking into account the influence of space weather on various technological systems. This influence is different in various parts of the globe, which is reflected in the dependence of the forecast accuracy on the position of the station. In the previous works of the authors, neural networks were developed using several groups of unidirectional and bidirectional, as well as recurrent and convolutional architectures, which provided high forecast accuracy based on data from stations along three meridians (European 30 degrees E, Southeastern 110 degrees E, and American 75 degrees W). In the present paper, these models, with additional modifications, are used to determine the accuracy of the TEC forecast for stations in the Southern Hemisphere lying along the American meridian similar to 70 degrees W. A comparison of the results obtained with previous estimates for the American meridian of the Northern Hemisphere showed that metrics such as Mean Absolute Error MAE, Root Mean Square Error RMSE, Mean Absolute Percentage Error MAPE follow the latitudinal structure of the ionosphere. MAE values are slightly higher in the Southern Hemisphere, and in both hemispheres are less than 0.4 TECU, with an average of 0.236 TECU in the Southern Hemisphere and 0.189 TECU in the Northern Hemisphere. RMSEs range from 0.5-1.5 TECU, with an average of 0.591 TECU in the Southern Hemisphere and 0.857 TECU in the Northern Hemisphere. MAPEs are less than 2%, with an average of 1.5% in the Southern Hemisphere and 1.9% in the Northern Hemisphere. An assessment of the forecast accuracy during three magnetic storms of different intensity (minimal Dst = -98 nT, -114 nT, -155 nT) showed the dependence of the accuracy of the forecast of ionospheric parameters on the latitude of the stations at which the measurements were carried out.
