The present study aimed to examine the pre-service elementary teachers' attitudes in Morocco toward integrating mobile learning in science education. Convenience sampling was the method used to select the research sample. Data collected through a 15-item questionnaire was distributed to 340 pre-service teachers of the Bachelor of Education Elementary Specialty (BEES). The data were analyzed with statistical techniques including mean scores and Mann-Whitney tests. The results indicated that the pre-service teachers had positive attitudes toward the use of mobile learning in science education and that these attitudes were not dependent on the teachers' gender, educational level, or pre-university academic background. The results also show that Moroccan pre-service elementary teachers would feel uncertain about the ability of their future children to use mobile devices in science learning.

Teaching laboratories play an essential role in engineering and science education. The role of online and traditional laboratories in delivering a conventional engineering curriculum is well understood. Learning outcomes that students can achieve undertaking laboratories have been clearly articulated. Partly driven by changes and technology, demands by industry and changing expectations by society, contemporary engineering education is shifting from traditional teacher-focused content-driven paradigms to student-driven programs that focus on professional and twenty-first-century skills. Project-based learning, among other learning activities, replaces lectures and tutorials. This raises the question of what role online and traditional laboratories play in the context of modern engineering curricula. This study compares and contrasts frameworks that capture laboratory and project-based learning to answer this question. The analysis at this high level concludes that many of the learning outcomes that have been traditionally addressed by teaching laboratory sessions are now covered by project-based and other activities. Laboratory learning activities are only required for niche skills and applications. Further work is required to make more specific conclusion about individual learning objectives. This study is a starting point to prompt further investigations.

The rapid integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies into modern industries creates the need for engineers experienced in their use. This paper introduces the educational approach through the establishment of a learning factory demonstrator designed for courses on the basics of IoT technology by employing versatile and low-cost take-home laboratory devices from the AutomationShield open-source initiative. This demonstrator also leverages the new Arduino Uno Rev4 WiFi board, and a curriculum designed to equip students with comprehensive skills. Students learn how to use the MQTT protocol based on publish/subscribe messaging to establish connection between a device and a cloud server. The concept of diagnostics and control of mechatronic devices in IoT networks is also introduced to the students within dedicated courses, in order to meet the needs of the market by providing innovative solutions fulfilling the concept of Industry 4.0. The new Arduino UNO extension, a WiFi ESP32-S3 module can offer a completely wireless connection to the cloud server serving as the system's hub, allowing multiple devices to be controlled independently from a single spot and from any location. The course participant should gain experience in deploying a device in a smart factory, from connecting the device to the cloud server, gathering data from the device, designing a dashboard for data visualization and device control, to creating a simple algorithm to process the data into a basic remote diagnostics concept-all relying on open-source solutions. Essentially, this pedagogical initiative empowers students with hands-on experience in developing and deploying IoT solutions.

This study aims to manage academic stress in adolescent students by developing a smartphone application featuring a chatbot called Zuko. Academic stress is a prevailing issue that impacts many high school and college students negatively. Stress is a major contributor to adverse psychological impacts in the adolescent population. To derive insights into academic stress and related issues, literature was reviewed and multiple stakeholders were interviewed. Based on these insights, a framework "iZnChAT" is proposed to generate chatbot-based digital solutions for managing academic stress. With adolescents being the most digitally connected population and chatbots having the potential to reach a wider audience, a chatbot Zuko is prototyped that can be accessed via a smartphone application. The chatbot includes elements of gamification to increase engagement. Subsequently, the chatbot was successfully evaluated by fifteen stakeholders based on various performance parameters. This chatbot is accessible via a smartphone application has a great potential to impact many lives by reducing academic stress, enhancing a students' wellbeing and educational performance.

Spherical robots are a rather niche part of robotics. Often IMUs are used for orientation determination of those robots. These IMUs are mostly placed in the center of the spherical shape, but for different subtypes of spherical robots, this is not possible due to different drive mechanism. This paper evaluates Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) configurations for different spherical robot types in terms of orientation determination accuracy in a series of four experiments. We establish the relationship between the accuracy of orientation determination and the following aspects of IMU configurations: (A) the number of IMUs, (B) the distance of an IMU from the center of the sphere, (C) symmetrical placement of IMUs around the sphere's center, and (D) axial placement. Based on the findings of these experiments, we set up the optimal configurations for the different types of spherical robots.

AI-based anomaly detection represents a significant research field with myriad application possibilities in smart manufacturing that involves using machine learning (ML) algorithms to identify abnormal patterns in the data collected from sensors and other sources. While substantial progress has been made in this field in recent years, some gaps in the literature still need to be addressed. One key challenge is the lack of labeled data for training ML algorithms, especially for rare anomalies. Moreover, unsupervised anomaly detection is also an obstacle to smart manufacturing implementation, as it can be prone to false positives or missing some anomalies. Additionally, the imbalanced dataset, where the collected data samples are predominantly from one specific class, results in no specific information about the anomalies that must be detected. Addressing these gaps, the present research provides a comparative analysis of three unsupervised ML techniques, namely: One-class Support Vector Machine - OCSVM, Isolation Forest - IF, and Local and Outlier Factor - LOF for product anomaly detection. The ML models were developed using an imbalanced dataset collected in the manufacturing company from the process industry. Finally, the results show the OCSVM technique provides the best performance regarding accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score.

With an increasing and ageing population and potential challenges in providing conventional, manual physiotherapy, this research paper proposes the use of exoskeleton robots for remote motor telerehabilitation. This approach, particularly task-oriented rehabilitation, is considered to be efficient and cost-effective. In order to create a reliable and safe rehabilitative exoskeleton system, precise data measurement during movements needs to be conducted. This study introduces a novel concept of an upper extremity trajectory recording system integrated with the construction of the passive exoskeleton with 5 degrees of freedom manufactured by the 3D-printing technology, granting both durability and light-weightness.

Robotic manipulation of deformable objects is challenging due to the great variety of materials and shapes. This task is even more complex when the object is also fragile, and the allowed amount of deformation needs to be constrained. For the goal of driving a thin fragile deformable object to a target 2D position and orientation, we propose a manipulation method based on executing planar pushing actions on the object edges with a robotic arm. Firstly, we obtain a probabilistic model through Gaussian process regression, which represents the time-varying deformation properties of the system. Then, we exploit the model in the framework of an Adaptive Bayesian Optimization (ABO) algorithm to compute the pushing action at each instant. We evaluate our proposal in simulation.

Wireless Sensor networks (WSNs) are made up of numerous small, low-power sensor nodes that work together to gather and transmit data from the environment. The successful operation of WSNs depends on robust communication protocols. Researchers have developed and evaluated numerous communication protocols and techniques aimed at offering reliable and energy-efficient communication in WSNs. Selecting an appropriate communication protocol and enhancing its performance for a certain application, on the other hand, remains a substantial challenge. In this study, we evaluate the performance of the IEEE 802.15.4 Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol in a Contiki-basedWSN application by measuring key Node-Level (NL) metrics like latency, Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) and energy consumption under different network densities and with various data lengths. The results indicate the simulation-based network's usefulness in offering insights into the trade-offs between performance measures and different network setups. The findings help to understand WSN performance characteristics and may be used to drive the design and optimization of medium access protocols in real-world WSN deployments.
