Engineers of today must be shaped to tackle global challenges that are becoming increasingly complex. With globalization and digitalization, new sets of skills are required of graduated engineers. Often referred to as "21st century skills", they encompass teamwork, leadership, digital literacy, and communication. Research has demonstrated that active learning methods such as problem-based learning (PBL) and project-based learning (PjBL), which emphasize "learning by doing," are more effective in shaping competent engineers. More recently, challenge-based learning (CBL) has emerged as a growing pedagogical approach. The objective of this study is to evaluate the integration of CBL within the online master's program in Energy for Circular Economy in Sri Lanka, developed within an EU Erasmus + project, with a specific focus on understanding students' experiences. By delving into the social dimension of the online learning environment, the overarching aim is to enhance insights into the online learning experience and, consequently, improve students' progression throughout the program. An online survey was conducted among first year's students attending the challenge-based course on Entrepreneurial and Innovative Challenges in the field of Energy. Overall, students perceived the course and its CBL approach as a distinctive experience that significantly enhanced their critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and leadership skills compared to any previous courses. One identified issue was the availability of teachers/mentors to supervise the teams, which can seriously hinder the success of CBL approach.

The way we learn new skills is constantly evolving, which is partly caused by the technology in our hands. Shift towards on-demand learning like "learn when I need it", "learn when I can", "learn by doing" or "learn when I have time to focus" has been possible by enabling flexible study environments. Our focus to learn is greatly affected by the abundance of information that has been made available through different sources. The lecturer has played a key role in selecting the required information and teaching a particular skill as defined by a learning outcome. However, to accommodate the technological aspect, the change in ways we used to learn causes the need for a change in teaching delivery as well. By offering full e-learning courses ("learning when I can"), which are built up as project-based learning ("learn by doing") we can fill up some of the gaps with the danger of introducing new ones. In this research we look at the evolvement of various, full e-learning Moodle courses made for engineering students and conducted throughout several years for different study groups (study program, gender, mandatory/optional course, group size). In addition, the use of e-learning is looked at from the COVID-19 perspective (including preceding and following periods). Comparative studies are carried out to show the importance (or necessity) of selected teaching methodology component(s) and how it helps (or demotivates) to support the learning process in a flipped, virtual classroom but also how it may affect the efficiency of teaching itself.

Effective communication skills are essential for sonographers to build trust, to explain examination procedures to the patient in non-technical terms, to alleviate anxiety and gain patient consent and collaboration, and to provide information at a pace suitable for the patient. In order to communicate effectively, the sonographer needs to be able to communicate empathetically, adjusting their communication style to meet the needs of different audiences. This is particularly challenging when working with a diverse and multicultural group of patients where the risk of misinterpretation is higher. Students are provided with the opportunity to practice dialogues with virtual patients that are able to interact as real human beings, communicating concerns, emotions, and moods both at a verbal and non-verbal level. Coaching through digital humans accelerates learning from experience without the risks associated with learning in the field.

AI will become an auxiliary tool in technical work. From a didactic point of view, the following must be considered what role AI can actually play, whether it has more of a calculating/dimensioning effect or is actually formative and what professional ethics need to be conveyed in technical teaching to ensure responsible use of AI. This article examines the thesis that AI will have an influence on curricular developments and teaching/learning formats in technical education - and therefore also requires tools such as COMET to assess holistic, open-ended tasks. To test this thesis, common AI systems were confronted with three types of tasks: A subject mathematical calculus, dimensioning task and a design task. It was shown that AI has a high solution accuracy, especially in the mathematical area, with corresponding derivation of the calculus. The more design is required and a new solution is to be developed beyond the known, the worse the AI-generated results become. The article comes to the conclusion that a higher degree of PBL orientation in technical teaching will be necessary in order to transparently disclose the responsible use of AI (through its use in the project) and to enable feedback tools such as COMET to support technical lecturers both during the re-flection phase and in the certification of academic achievements.

The context of the research and findings includes. review of national, EU and international regulations, recommendations and trends for digitalisation, providing better access and safeguarding of cultural heritage in memory institutions - galleries, libraries, museums, and archives. Part of the main aims and obligations of museums are to preserve, educate and transfer knowledge and valuable artefacts and cultural elements for the next generations. The paper presents research and results related to the digitalisation and accessibility of cultural heritage, formulation of recommendations, evaluation criteria, digital presentation tools and transmission of knowledge, related to the digital transformation and socialization of cultural heritage in Bulgaria. The paper presents analytical and empirical research with over 100 museums and cultural heritage sites in Bulgaria carried out between 2016 and 2023 about the digitalisation process and providing accessibility (incl. For disabled people) in the field of cultural heritage and museums in Bulgaria. Based on the research we present recommendations, results, possible applications, and digital transfer of knowledge internationally, learning for next generations, evaluation, and passportisation. The research also includes questions and information related to financial aspects of the digitalisation process, as well as related software, training of personnel, management, and different challenges that museums and their workers face. The presented approach can be useful and used on a national and international level for different memory institutions.

The use of various remote and virtual laboratories (R&VL) for educational and scientific purposes is becoming commonplace in the modern world, due to the continuous development of online engineering technologies. Since the fields of study are constantly expanding, the development of new laboratories is an almost continuous process. However, creating R&VL from scratch is a very complex process that requires large financial and time costs. Unfortunately, there are no uniform standards and approaches in the field of R&VL development, and developers implement their own decisions, which differ significantly. Therefore, an urgent task is to introduce methods and tools to speed up the development process of R&VL and make it more efficient. The developed framework is created to demonstrate to students the process of developing a virtual laboratory for the design of embedded systems and it allows them to gain knowledge about the design process and tools, structural and functional features of virtual labs, as well as acquire skills in using modern technologies for software development, modification and support.

The aim of this article is to find out the differences and similar solutions in the field of pedagogical practices of undergraduate teacher training in Slovak, Czech, Hungarian and Polish university education. The methodology is based on the analysis and comparison of four university workplaces that focus on pedagogical practices. Within the implementation of pedagogical practices, we can observe different approaches to the length and organization of pedagogical practices. While in the Czech Republic they organize internships on a continuous basis during the semester with the simultaneous participation of students in real teaching, in Slovakia, Poland and Hungary they organize short blocks of internships outside or during the semester that are more focused on observation and internships. Different goals and assessments of practice indicate different expectations and priorities in the educational process. All workplaces unanimously emphasize the importance of cooperation between universities and schools in the organization and implementation of pedagogical practices. There are many initiatives for change for all 4 countries, mainly due to starting a discussion in professional circles, e.g. when formulating and also testing a new proposal in the Czech and Hungarian environment and also during the changes that are currently being prepared in the Slovak Republic. Based on the above-mentioned results and knowledge of the legislative anchoring of pedagogical practices, we could derive the need for reform in Slovakia in pedagogical practices with an emphasis on more flexible organizations, clear goals and evaluations, and strengthening of cooperation between universities and schools.

During one semester of 2023, the students and members of the academic staff at Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies were involved in the university's project "Digitalization initiatives for the improvement of study quality in the field of strategic specialization of universities" to pilot the self-study online course "Foundations of Academic English". The course had been developed by colleagues from another university using the Moodle platform to be integrated into the Academic English course for post-graduate engineering students. The present research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of such an online interactive course for studying Academic English at the tertiary level. Firstly, the authors analyzed the structure of the Digitalization Project's self-study online course, and then the opinion of post-graduate students of engineering sciences was determined. Overall, post-graduate students gave a positive evaluation of the online course even though some critical remarks were expressed in the commentaries of the survey.

System architecture design is a crucial skill for software engineering students, yet it presents challenges due to its complexity and the need for technical experience. Therefore, helpful feedback for students is essential but difficult to provide in large university-level courses. Recent developments related to large language models (LLMs) show promising possibilities for supporting students in different educational scenarios. In this study, we developed an LLM-based mentor to aid students in designing system architectures based on textual project descriptions and technical requirements. The tool follows a Socratic method to guide students toward a possible solution by posing relevant questions and thoughts. Therefore, we developed the System Architecture Dialogue (SAD) Framework with input from 18 experienced software engineers who offered insights into their architectural development experiences. We conducted a study in a first-year project management course at a European university involving 39 students, comparing a group using the LLM-based approach with a traditional method group. We investigated the educational impact of LLMs through surveys, chat protocol analysis, and comparing final system architectures. This paper presents our findings and experiences with developing an LLM-based mentor for creating system architectures and its educational possibilities. While the study found no significant differences in the final architectures between the groups, it showed that LLMs can help reduce complexity and provide additional context by following a structured and logical approach. LLMs have the potential to broaden students' horizons and can be a beneficial tool for early career students and software engineers.

We expand on the work of Redmond et al. (P. Redmond, A. Heffernan, L. Abawi, A. Brown, and R. Henderson, "An online engagement framework for higher education," Online Learning, vol. 22, no. 1, 2018.) and their proposal of an Online Engagement Framework for Higher Education, setting the stage for an investigation into online course designs and pedagogical methods likely to foster increased student social engagement, confidence, and resilience in the online learning process. Our research builds on the student-engagement themes proposed by Redmond et al.: cognitive, behavioral, collaborative, and emotional engagement;we see these as forms of students' capital that can be facilitated by online course design and instruction. This capital, in turn, helps foster students' social engagement, which is linked to better learning outcomes, increased confidence, and resilience in the online learning process. Following a meta-analysis of contemporary literature on distance education, we draw on the community of inquiry and community of practice frameworks, identifying ways to measure these constructs. As such, we propose a new model the Community Engagement Framework for Online Learners, which can be tested with survey data to identify elements of online course design and instruction most likely to influence students' engagement. In doing so, we also theorize that a hybrid campus can be achieved for online learners through increased social engagement, which should likely, in turn, increase their confidence and resilience in the online learning process.
