Inpainting, the process of filling in missing or damaged regions of an image, has witnessed significant progress with the advent of deep learning, particularly neural networks. This investigation delves into the outermost capabilities of two-layer Convolutional Autoencoders (2L-CAEs) architectures applied to image inpainting. The study scrutinizes the boundaries of performance and feasibility within this specific neural network configuration. The overarching objective is to provide an intricate understanding of the potential and limitations inherent in pushing a 2L-CAE architecture to its extremes, particularly when tasked with the intricate process of mending missing or impaired regions within an image.

Anatomy education in medical undergraduate curricula traditionally depends on the provision of human tissues, which involve significant infrastructural and personnel resources. More importantly, a gap involves between traditional teaching approaches and contemporary technology. To address this challenge, virtual tools offer one promising approach by providing a realistic spatial learning experience, particularly fulfilling the needs of universities lacking the provision of post-mortem facilities for anatomy teaching. This given project explores three technical scenarios integrating virtual tools into anatomy teaching. Scenario #1 utilizes live-rendered three-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) models for large student cohorts, Scenario #2 live 3D-broadcasting of anatomical dissections to a large audience. Scenario #3 focuses on the provision of digitizing anatomical models for online access. Visual use cases and organizational concepts were developed to streamline implementation and logistics. Initial feedback suggests acceptance and potential effectiveness in enhancing anatomy teaching. These findings highlight the value of integrating virtual tools into traditional anatomy education methods.

The relevance of the initiated research isstipulated by the rapid development of modern technologies, which leads to the growth of automation and robotization of various spheres of life. Robotics has a significant impact on the labor market, changing the requirements for workers and the need for new skills. Therefore, the identification of promising ways of developing educational strategies for preparing students for these challenges is extremely relevant. The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze promising strategies in the field of education to prepare students for the challenges that arise in connection with the growth of automation and robotization of various sectors of the economy, in particular, the sphere of labor. The research is aimed at developing approaches to improve educational programs that allow students to develop the necessary skills and competencies for successful functioning in a changing market environment, adapting to the requirements of digital transformation. On the basis of the conducted theoretical analysis, the key aspects and needs arising in the educational environment in the connection with changes related to automation and robotics were determined. Recommendations have been developed for the improvement of educational programs and pedagogical approaches in order to effectively prepare students for the labor market in the conditions of digital transformation. The proposed recommendations are the basis for the further development of educational programs and will contribute to better training of students for the requirements of the labor market in the conditions of the digital economy.

Dual training is a particular form of primary education in Hungary, where students meet the University's requirements for their studies and complete the company's training program by partnering with the institution. Students who achieve specific points in the central admission procedure and are admitted to the relevant NJE degree program while successfully competing for a company can be dual. The training is based on a combination of general theoretical knowledge acquired at the University and additional skills acquired in practice in the company. The effectiveness of the training can be assessed based on several criteria and indicators. For example, by examining students' non-cognitive skills, labor market expectations, students' self-reflection, student satisfaction, student motivation, and student drop-out. in the present study, dual education has been represented in a strategic partnership framework in which three partners work together over many years, the University, and the company. For this system to work effectively and satisfy the participants, continuous measurement and monitoring of all three actors is necessary. At John von Neumann University, dual training has been in place for more than ten years, during which time it has been examined in many aspects to determine how effectively the system works. The present research presents the experiences of the last ten years from the actors' perspective, focusing on the University. The university satisfaction relationship has been mapped, and the results have been used to make recommendations for further improvement.

This paper proposes an integrated approach to support the development of future skills of engineers, including central soft skills like communication, teamwork and innovation management, from the upper secondary school level, with a co-objective of raising the popularity of STEM curricula. The approach is built on the outcomes of an Interreg Central Baltic funded project with a specific objective More Entrepreneurial Youth and has been revised and adapted to suit upper secondary school elective subject framework and tie into university curriculum. The implementation of the ChangeMakers program supported the engagement of youngsters in engineering. The program follows the recent progress of international engineering communities that have highlighted the importance of soft skills. The technical challenges are solved in teams through continuous development of soft skills and feed-forward and feedback loops. It is anticipated that this method of interactively learning soft skills and developing innovation capacity on the basis of engineering challenges will help raise awareness of and curiosity for the STEM field. It is anticipated that this will support the achievement of strategical goals through increasing the number and share of engineering students in the university.

In the domain of image annotation, the involvement of human annotators presents a series of intricate challenges tied to the complexities of visual perception. The manual labeling process demands an understanding of context and visual intricacies, all susceptible to human subjectivity. Furthermore, the presence of visual distractions compromises annotation quality, not only impeding annotation precision but also escalating time expenditures as annotators navigate through visual noise to discern pertinent details. Traditional image annotation pipelines underscore these challenges in favor of automatic or semiautomatic annotation, emphasizing the critical necessity for innovative approaches in annotation tasks where the human annotator role is fundamental. Within this context, the Grounded SAM model, emerges as a potent tool for text-prompt-based panoptic segmentation. This paper proposes a novel annotation pipeline employing Grounded SAM and LaMa cleaner models to augment the indispensable role of human annotators by enhancing annotation efficiency through natural language-based attention mining for visual distractions elimination and preannotation techniques. The effectiveness of distraction elimination is demonstrated through an annotation task involving human annotators, with half of the images processed through our pipeline and the remaining unmodified. With our current approach and with the current data analyzed, image annotation times of 70% of the annotators were reduced by 15.88%, while global annotation time was reduced by a 6.93%.

Writer identification using handwritten text fragments is a challenging task due to the variability of handwriting styles and the limited amount of data available for training. This paper proposes a new open writer identification system based on a lightweight convolutional autoencoder (CAE) framework. The proposed system leverages the CAE's ability to extract discriminative features from handwritten text fragments. Notably, the system is trained on a small subset of writers, making it an open system. A new metric, based on the number of correctly classified fragments, is introduced during the design step to enhance the robustness of extracted features, which are then fed to the distance-based classifier (DBC) for writer identification. Importantly, integrating new writers into the system does not require retraining the lightweight CAE. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system achieves competitive identification rates of 95.86% and 89.78% on both the IFN/ENIT and IAM datasets, respectively.

Although there has been an increasing amount of literature on learning experience design in the past five years, it is not clear yet how to operationally integrate the process and methods of instructional design, learning design, user-experience design, design-based research and design thinking in a multi-step participative design process involving stakeholders with different perspectives. Our recent systematic literature review on relationships between learning design and learning analytics applying a critical interpretive synthesis and text analytics identified two issues rarely explicitly discussed in the literature: "evidence-informed instructional design approaches" and "design-based research." Elaborating on these two concepts, we proposed that evidence-based practice promoted within the learning design paradigm and the need for applying research-based findings advanced in the instructional design field should be complementary to each other in a participatory learning experience design process built upon the tradition of design-based research and recent development of software engineering design and Design Thinking. Against this background, the position paper addresses the following research question: How can we facilitate the participative technology-enhanced learning design in an effective, efficient and appealing way? To this end, the paper introduces Group Concept Mapping (GCM), a mix-methods research methodology. GCM is a consensus-driven approach combining qualitative data collection with advanced statistical techniques to aggregate participants' contributions and show their collective perspectives.

Change is complex, uncomfortable, frustrating but importantly, worth the investment- to teach better and to make positive and long-lasting improvements within our educational system. However, navigating the complexities of educating the next generation of engineers is no easy feat. Education is key to helping engineering adapt to 21st-century challenges because it develops the people within a system that is itself complex. This paper shares practical experience and learnings from the experience of two organisations, Engineers Without Borders UK (EWB-UK) and the UK's Engineering Professors Council (EPC). Both have navigated this landscape to engage people to co-create resources that meaningfully integrate global responsibility into engineering education by changing how we teach. Firstly, through the Engineering for People Design Challenge, which aims to bring to life real-world challenges through a project-based learning pedagogy. Secondly, the upskilling and guidance resources for educators through the EPC's Ethics and Sustainability Toolkits which are designed to help engineering educators improve their own knowledge and skills to integrate this content into teaching, and EWB-UK's Reimagined Degree Map which supports engineering departments to navigate the decisions that are urgently required to prepare students for 21st-century challenges. We analyse data, testimonials and insights from educators using the co-created resources who have made changes to their education practice.
