Lane detection is a critical component of many autonomous and advanced driver assistance systems. In this paper, the performance of "You Only Look Once for Panoptic" driving perception (YOLOP) deep learning model is evaluated on challenging conditions targeting road lane detection. YOLOP is evaluated on two publicly available datasets, including the BDD100K dataset and the KITTI dataset. Moreover, a third test dataset, which was created by the authors containing road images in Dubai city, was also utilized in the evaluation. The performance of YOLOP model was demonstrated on detecting lanes in challenging conditions such as curved roads, occluded markings, presence of shadow, and on rainy and foggy weather conditions. Results suggest that YOLOP achieves high Pixel Accuracy (PA) and low Mean Square Error (MSE) on all test sets. However, the Intersection over Union (IoU) metric was only 12.45%, 16.70%, and 26.79%, for BDD100K, KITTI, and the created test set, respectively. Overall, the results show that YOLOP provides a robust and efficient solution for lane detection that can be easily integrated into existing autonomous driving systems though its performance degrades in challenging conditions, particularly in the presence of shadows.

This study compares several hybrid dynamic models built with offline data to optimize nanobody production in Escherichia coli. These models combine the insights of mechanistic knowledge and Machine Learning algorithms (ML). Four ML algorithms were tested: Support Vector Regressor (SVR), Random Forest (RF), Decision Tree (DT) and K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN). The efficacy of each model was analyzed with three metrics: mean absolute error (MAE), root mean squared error (RMSE), normalized root mean squared error (NRMSE). Results demonstrate that the radial basis function (RBF) SVR model performed best simulations, with a NRMSE between 0.063 and 0.665. The insights gained are pivotal for advancing computational modeling techniques in biomanufacturing, with a specific emphasis on the production of recombinant therapeutic proteins, such as nanobodies, using bacterial hosts.

Bankrupt companies are entitled to pay back creditors a fraction of their debts during business failure resulting in substantial monetary losses for customers. Thus, companies seek bankruptcy protection to reassess capital and develop plans to support creditors. Hence, predicting bankruptcy is critical for stakeholders (e.g., banking industry, creditors). Researchers have predicted bankruptcy based on data (e.g., financial, non-financial, economic, and market variables) and have adopted a range of models (e.g., statistical, financial, machine learning, and deep learning). However, its full potential of selecting a subset of variables and using selected machine learning models on real datasets is yet to be explored. Here, we collected bankruptcy data from 1999 to 2009 on Taiwan's economy. Here, we employ four methods (e.g., variance threshold, recursive feature elimination, logistic stepwise, and consideration of economic factors) to shortlist variables. Further, we deploy four ML models (e.g., logistic regression, random forest (RF), gradient boosting, and XGBoost). Key findings indicated that XGBoost (97% accuracy) and RF (96% accuracy) perform best when the SMOTE algorithm addresses data imbalance. As per the RF classifier, variables including net income to stockholder's equity, net value growth rate, borrowing dependency, and persistent EPS in the last four seasons ranked higher for bankruptcy prediction. Our model is easy to adopt and performs better to present bankrupt and non-bankrupt firms' discrepancies. The results discussed here should be useful to decision-makers (e.g., bankers, policy analysts, and economic and financial agencies) across the world and they would benefit by launching preventative measures to avoid financial loss.

Dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) detection faces challenges in real-world environments due to noise, distortions, and diverse telecommunications equipment. This paper explores the application of a simple Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for robust DTMF tone classification, with subsequent deployment on an Arduino device. The proposed TinyML model achieves near-identical accuracy to the unquantized model across pure signals, signals with noise, and speech distortions. Notably, the quantized model significantly reduces file size (70%) while maintaining excellent performance. This work highlights the potential of ANNs for robust DTMF classification in real-world scenarios, particularly on low-power devices.

This paper proposes an innovative solution for the conservation and understanding of avian biodiversity in forest ecosystems in Ecuador using deep learning techniques. Preprocessing techniques, including noise signal separation, were applied, and convolutional neural network models were used to extract significant features from Mel spectrograms using data from the forest "La Prosperina". To train the model, an average of 400 samples of bird songs were utilized for each of the six species to be classified, achieving accuracy rates of 99.93% for training dataset and 96.27% for testing dataset, demonstrating exceptional abilities to identify threatened bird species, with positive results represented in a confusion matrix. This approach not only benefits conservationists by providing them with effective and economically viable tools for monitoring bird species and behaviors but also has broader applications.

In this paper, we are interested in developing a sentiment analysis (SA) system on the basis of machine learning (ML) techniques. We propose a Libyan dialect twitter dataset which we have built. It contains 6,000 comments and tweets cleaned, pre-processed, and annotated. To evaluate the performance of sentiment classification of the tweets and comments, four machine learning classifiers have been applied. These results show that all classifiers achieved good results. Furthermore, we have created a basic sentiment lexicon which includes words and phrases with sentiment polarity (positive, negative, and neutral). This sentiment lexicon is a valuable resource for the Libyan dialect.

The IoRT-aware Business Process is a new business type. It embedded IoT and robot technologies to automate classic BP. To effectively execute an IoRT-aware BP, it is significant to ensure that is accurately modeled. Referring to the literature, various modeling languages can be used to model an IoRT-aware BP. The Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) is among the most attractive and descriptive languages. However, the latter lacks a formal aspect, potentially leading to inconsistencies and ambiguities. Therefore, to effectively check an IoRT-aware BP modeled using BPMN, it seems relevant to cope with a consistent formalism (e.g., Petri Net (PN), Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS), etc.), simplifying the process structure verification. From this perspective, we propose an approach that deals with DEVS formalism to check IoRT-aware BP structure (e.g., deadlock, loop, dead task, etc.). To evaluate the proposed approach, we consider a case study of IoRT-aware BP in agriculture by checking its process model structure. The findings show the effectiveness of our approach in capturing structure errors.

The growing demand for online services and resource-intensive applications has led to the need to optimise the allocation of resources on virtual machines. Traditional methods based on manual allocation are insufficient in the face of the complexity and scale of modern virtualised environments. In this context, it is proposed to develop an architecture based on explainable artificial intelligence algorithms to dynamically optimise resource allocation in virtual machines. The objective is to improve the efficiency and performance of virtualised servers. It is expected to obtain a modular architecture that integrates different techniques of explainable artificial intelligence, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the management of virtualised systems. The research will provide a solution for the optimisation of resources in virtual machines, improving efficiency and transparency in decision-making.

The global state of a distributed system is most commonly stored in databases. Databases are responsible for ensuring that the data is available, durable, and correct at some level of consistency. However, this approach has its limitations. The computing nodes responsible for the application tier need to constantly communicate over the network to be able to interact with the global state and this comes with a performance limitation. Our Traquest model concept allows us to manage the data and even provide full ACID properties on the application tier level instead of the database level. In most cases, the data can be stored right next to the computation even in the same runtime environment. Our prototype measurements imply, that in some cases a Traquest model-based distributed system can provide even magnitudes larger throughput than the fastest in-memory databases today. The Traquest model also introduces a workaround for the famous CAP theorem by introducing temporary availability.

Employing a stochastic cost frontier model based on Battese and Coelli (Empirical Economics 20:325-332, 1995), this study assesses cost efficiency and examines the impact of digital banking on Taiwan's banking industry, utilizing data from 16 banks spanning 2018 to 2021. Digital banking, characterized by digital account openings and digital transaction volume, is scrutinized. Results indicate a positive correlation between digital accounts and enhanced cost efficiency. However, the influence of digital transaction volumes exhibits mixed effects, signaling a lag in financial innovation and digital service expansion among public sector banks compared to their private counterparts. Analysis of the technical gap ratio and metafrontier cost efficiency unveils a shift toward proactive digital transformation in private banks from 2020 to 2021, emphasizing the growing imperative for digital adaptation accentuated by the pandemic.
