The article substantiates the important role of developing skills in constructing mathematical models of systems and processes, as well as the use of innovative computational methods that are effective in modern scientific research. Using simple examples, the authors introduce readers to the methodology of teaching the topics "New Information Operators" and "Innovative Methods of Numerical Integration", in particular in the courses "Mathematical, Physical and Information Foundations of Industry Knowledge" and "Innovative Methods of Digitalisation of the Professional Field". The above-mentioned educational components are studied at the Ukrainian Engineering and Pedagogical Academy in the speciality ‘‘Vocational Education (By specialisation)". The value of these innovations lies in the fact that students get acquainted with new information operators in practice. New information operators are built depending on the type of experimental data. Currently, modern engineers use digital images, tomograms, integrals along given lines, values of functions on lines or planes, etc. as data on the technical process. Modern advances in mathematical modelling allow us to build new algorithms taking into account different types of experimental data. The article presents an algorithm for recovering a function of two variables on four or three lines, as well as on a system of mutually perpendicular lines in the computer algebra system MathCad. In addition, a cubature formula for the approximate calculation of the double integral is presented, which is effective in terms of using the input information to achieve a given accuracy. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

According to the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) theory, setting the right level of challenge can enhance engagement and performance while balancing challenge and skill is essential for enjoyment. Empathy is crucial in the learning journey as it helps instructors understand the learner’s perspective and promote relevant interactions. This study tests whether empathy can boost adult learners’ enthusiasm and performance, creating a supportive and enriching learning environment. This work hypothesizes that instructors who empathize with their adult students can obtain higher evaluation results. Therefore, cultivating and exhibiting empathy is necessary for a positive and productive learning environment. At Tecnologico de Monterrey, participants evaluate the instructors from continuing education courses. We analyzed these evaluations through a text-mining quantitative analysis methodological approach. The most frequent terms used by participants to describe instructors’ performance were obtained through inductive analysis of written comments. Commentaries were compared to quantitative evaluations to investigate correlations using KH coder software for text analysis. Based on course evaluations, "empathy" was expected to rank highly. About 33,000 comments were evaluated. Although the concept of empathy had a low frequency, we identified the most valued aspects of continuing education programs. The findings of this study contribute to the academic discourse and offer practical insights to educators and policymakers, enabling them to design and implement more effective programs that cater to the needs of adult learners, thereby enhancing their learning experience. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The paper presents a pilot study of a mathematics lesson with 3D printed geometric shapes for shape counting tasks, intended to be used in inclusive classes with students with visual impairment. The study consists of three parts – counting squares, counting triangles and a play with a robot as the reward for participation in the session. The developed study tasks are useful and enjoyable to both the visually intact and impaired participants. The interaction with the NAO robot was one of the first scenarios developed to introduce robots to people with impaired vision in educational settings like math lessons. The overall study emphasizes the importance of developing the tactile intelligence of the students. The visually impaired participants enjoyed the acquaintance with the robot and the study design, which makes it appropriate for inclusive education. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The study investigates the development of soft skills in freshman engineering students enrolled in an Arduino-based course. The course, "Skills and Engineering Thinking," integrates hands-on Arduino projects into the curriculum to enhance students’ communication, problem solving, teamwork, and adaptability. Students participated in various Arduino labs during the winter semester and executed a more complex robot car project in the spring semester. We assessed the course's effectiveness using a mixed-methods approach, which combined a quantitative survey with qualitative data from labs, project reports, and classroom observations. The results indicated no significant difference between students’ pre- and post-course self-reported soft skills development. Alongside consistent satisfaction levels, qualitative insights revealed high engagement and motivation, effective teamwork, and valuable problem-solving experiences. The study concludes that while the course effectively engaged students and provided meaningful hands-on experiences, additional interventions are necessary to achieve measurable improvements in soft skills. Recommendations include increasing support for adaptability, enhancing reflective practices, and fostering collaboration. These findings contribute to the ongoing discourse on integrating practical skills development into engineering curricula and highlight the potential of project-based learning to foster essential soft skills. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Imagery can make learning easier and faster, so teachers need to know how to use and develop different ways of using it. Studies related to this have been conducted in the STEM academic and work fields [1]. The combined use of different imagery modes is important in engineering, for example to avoid design errors that cause accidents that are difficult to foresee when using only one imagery mode [2]. We know the most about object visual imagery, but even its precise measurement is only possible in a laboratory setting. In our experiment, we developed an online computer-administered test, a Hungarian version of a test found in the literature, which aimed to measure object visual imagery, and from their results, the researchers concluded that using one's native language results in a more vivid object visual imagery compared to using a foreign language. In addition to the mentioned test, our participants also completed the Vividness of Visual Imagery Questionnaire (VVIQ), the Internal Representations Questionnaire (IRQ), and a background questionnaire. The results of our adapted test positively correlate with VVIQ scores (0.5***), thus indicating a relationship with the participant's object visual imagery. Considering the results of the IRQ and the background questionnaire, it is further likely that there is a relationship between language use and object visual imagery. 74 students from Janos Selye University in Slovakia, preparing to teach various subjects, completed the test online in Hungarian as their mother tongue in a computer room. SPSS was used to analyze the results.

This study investigates the implementation of problem-based learning (PBL) in higher education, focusing on its effectiveness in improving student learning and outcomes using self-selected and Big Five Personality Traits (OCEAN model) test groups. The research was conducted at X University within the course "Manufacturing Processes and Logistics," involving 37 graduate students over two fall semesters (2022 and 2023). In 2022, teams were self-selected, while in 2023, teams were formed based on the OCEAN model to ensure balanced dynamics. The results demonstrated that PBL positively impacted student motivation and performance, with OCEAN teams outperforming self-selected teams in several areas. Specifically, OCEAN teams had higher attendance rates (91% vs. 79%), spent less time working on tasks outside the classroom, and achieved better final grades (4.7 +/- 0.1 vs. 4.4 +/- 0.2). Additionally, OCEAN teams experienced smoother group work, even distribution of tasks, and fewer conflicts compared to self-selected teams. Feedback from both team types highlighted the value of self-evaluation and peer feedback in understanding group dynamics and the importance of collaborative work. The study concludes that structured team formation using the OCEAN model enhances student engagement, social skills, individual responsibility, and academic performance. These findings emphasize the significance of well-organized collaborative learning environments in higher education, suggesting that integrating both self-selected and OCEAN-formed teams could further boost student motivation and ease the acquisition of course content.

Students with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder have obvious deficits mainly in areas related to social skills, which is an inhibitory factor in the learning process. Modern educational techniques should focus not only on fulfilling their teaching goals, but also on cultivating the deficit characteristics of students with autism, thus giving an inclusive orientation to the educational process. To meet this need, a digital educational framework of "hyper-interactive" videos was designed and developed, in primary electricity concepts, with the aim of a holistic learning experience, starting from the detection of alternative ideas, focusing on the one hand on the intended cognitive transformation and on the other hand on the development of social skills through cooperative learning techniques, among elementary school students. The research sample consisted of 16 fifth- and sixth-grade elementary school students (twelve students with high-functioning ASD and four typically developing students). The research results highlighted the adaptability of the specific educational tool to the deficient social skills of students with ASD, achieving better learning outcomes by adopting inclusive collaboration techniques.

In engineering education, integrating practical skills with theoretical knowledge is essential for developing competent professionals. This study investigates the benefits of linking Computer Aided Manufacturing and Metal Forming Technologies courses to enhance project-based learning. The primary objective was to assess whether this integration could improve student retention and effectiveness in PBL environments. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from postgraduate mechanical engineering students through surveys, project evaluations, and performance metrics. The integration of these courses resulted in increased student engagement and retention, as well as enhanced quality and innovation in student projects. The findings support the hypothesis that interdisciplinary course integration fosters a more collaborative and engaging learning experience, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. In mid-2023, the Times Higher Education (THE) website announced the results of the THE Impact Rankings 2023, utilizing indicators and evaluation methods in its fifth edition. This ranking included 1,705 universities from 115 countries worldwide. This marked a brave and challenging step for Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL) as it decided to participate in this ranking system for the first time since the establishment of THE Impact Rankings in 2019. Among the five Rajamangala University of Technology institutions that participated, RMUTL’s overall score and ranking fell within the 1000 + range. In contrast, Thai universities in the top 50 included two institutions, the top 51–100 included two institutions, the top 101–600 included 15 institutions, and the top 601–1000 included 11 institutions. Despite the result, an evaluation of RMUTL’s diverse potential indicated that the university possesses several advantages that could help elevate its ranking further. This realization led to the present research, aiming to address the question: "How should RMUTL adjust its strategies to enhance its competitiveness under the THE Impact Rankings criteria?" The research team adopted a qualitative approach, utilizing strategic case studies and seeking recommendations from five leading Thai higher education institutions. This approach aimed to develop mechanisms for strategic adjustments to effectively achieve sustainability goals and enhance competitive strength. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
