Most tangible cultural heritages have a location so they can be expressed and managed as geographic information. The Geographic Information System (GIS) is used for the preservation and management of cultural heritage. In Korea, it has been established to provide users with location information and specific data on cultural heritage. In this study, the characteristics of the Heritage Geographic Information Service (HGIS) in Korea were identified, and problems and development directions were presented. In Korea, HGIS services have been provided to preserve and manage cultural heritage since 2008, and many users are using HGIS services for the preservation and management of cultural properties. To improve and develop HGIS, the measures proposed in this study are as follows. First, the data provided by HGIS must be refined and processed to provide user-centered information. To this end, it is necessary to improve the data schema and develop integrated metadata. Second, it is necessary to provide various map expressions of the spatial distribution of heritage. The theme map expression should be improved to effectively express the spatial distribution of heritage even on a small scale. In addition, it is necessary to combine high-resolution satellite images and 3D building modeling to effectively express heritage even in virtual reality. In this study, an improvement case of the method of map expression of heritage was presented using Python's Folium and Google Earth.

This research investigates the challenges and effectiveness of various text representation methods (standard vector, grammar-based, and distributed), when applied to clustering short texts. The study explores Bag-of-Words for standard vector, Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC), Part-of-Speech Tagging (POS-Tagging), and the Medical Research Council Psycholinguistic Database (MRC) for grammar-based, and Word2Vec, fastText, Doc2Vec, and SentenceBERT for distributed representations. Utilizing the aiNet bio-inspired clustering algorithm, the results reveal surprising findings, with grammar-based representations demonstrating competitive performance despite their simplicity, while standard vectors exhibit known challenges like high dimensionality. The study contributes insights into the properties of different text representations, providing a foundation for optimizing their application in clustering tasks with short and informal texts.

Azure Kinect and Intel RealSense D435i are modern depth cameras based on two different depth estimation approaches: AzureKinect uses Time-of-Flight, and RealSense uses stereo vision technologies. In this paper, we present a systematic comparison of Azure Kinect and Intel RealSense D435i cameras, focusing on the accuracy of depth estimation under various influencing factors. We analyze the influence of factors such as sensor temperature, camera distance, ambient illumination and temperature, and target color on the depth estimation accuracy and noise sensitivity. In addition to comparing the spatial and temporal distribution of per-pixel mean distance, noise, and offset distribution, we also analyze the noises and outliers on depth images and apply appropriate statistical treatment to mitigate them. Our findings offer insights into selecting suitable depth cameras for specific applications, highlighting the strengths and limitations of each camera under different operating conditions.

The Internet of things (IoT) and 5G technologies have recently advanced, making it possible to connect different sensors and processors in industrial and commercial applications using modern wireless network approaches. Virtual reality (VR) is one of the most cutting-edge wearable and wireless technologies that is expanding quickly. Various VR technologies are now available, and they are made to meet the demands of users, including people with disabilities (PWDs). Nevertheless, it was discovered that the VR technology created for users who are hearing impaired (HI) has been woefully inadequate, and specific design principles were discovered when developing VR technology for them. The results of a systematic review and critical evaluation of publications from the Scopus and Web of Science databases using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) technique are presented in this paper. The process is divided into four phases: developing the research questions, determining the resources, specifying the inclusion and exclusion standards, and assessing the findings. Five articles were chosen based on the criteria at the end of the process. Then, along with the VR applications that have been made accessible during the last 3 years (2021-2023), three themes relating to the principles of building VR technology were covered: assistive technology (AT), visual interaction (VI), and empathy. The findings of this study can be used as a guideline for future developers to ensure the future designs of VR models for the HI individuals could be improved.

Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the medical field are versatile tools applicable in various sectors such as commercial, academic, government, and public. They encompass diverse data types, including biological, biometric, and electronic health records. Biological data may involve information stored in biobanks, while biometric data can include personal wellness data gathered from devices. Electronic health data primarily consists of patient medical records, along with demographic information and medical imaging. This article aims to extensively explore the advantages, challenges, and implications of employing Big Data and AI in the medical domain, with a specific focus on improving diagnostics, clinical decision-making, and health care. Additionally, it considers essential ethical and regulatory issues related to the integration of these technologies. The paper particularly emphasizes the positive impact of combining Big Data with AI, resulting in enhanced precision of predictive models for disease outbreaks and patient health risks, ultimately improving strategies for preventive care.

Existing issues in terms of female equality in AI and robotics are discussed in terms of strategies used in the EU funded Gender Innovation Living Lab (GILL) project to fix the number, the knowledge, institutions, and culture. These issues were investigated during a staff /student mobility exchange visit between Coventry University (UK) and 5 representative universities in Pakistan in 2023, with results confirming the literature. From this a set of recommendations is proposed to address acknowledged gender issues.

Multivariate Public Key Cryptography (MPKC) is one of the promising candidates of Post-quantum Cryptography (PQC) that ensures data security, information security, computer system security, and network security against large-scale quantum computers. Our research work in this article focuses on analyzing rank weakness in cubic cryptographic structures. The extension of the rank attack from quadratic to cubic polynomial system demonstrates the occurrence of the same rank fault as in the case of multivariate quadratic polynomial-based cryptosystems. In this paper, we present the cryptanalysis of the multivariate cubic polynomial-based digital signature algorithm, which is basically based on the big field system called Hidden Field Equation (HFE) and uses the structure of the state-of-the-art signature scheme in multivariate cryptography called Rainbow. In addition to this, we provide a countermeasure to overcome the presented attack on the MPKC digital signature.

Hierarchical reinforcement learning is a type of reinforcement learning that decomposes the reinforcement learning problem into multiple less difficult subproblems. Hierarchical reinforcement learning has potential advantages over non-hierarchical reinforcement learning algorithms. This includes the potential to improve sample efficiency. This paper presents a new hierarchical reinforcement learning algorithm used in playing the game of Othello. An experiment has been done to compare the sample efficiency of the new hierarchical reinforcement learning algorithm to the Deep Q-Learning algorithm. The new hierarchical reinforcement learning algorithm demonstrated significant improvements in sample efficiency.

Drones are currently an indispensable tool for emergency response teams performing wilderness Search And Rescue (SAR), as they can cover large and possibly inaccessible areas efficiently. It is, however, still unclear how a drone operator can effectively engage and control a system composed of multiple autonomous robots, especially in unstructured and outdoor environments. This paper reports on ongoing work in the project HERD-Human-AI Collaboration: Engaging and Controlling Swarms of Robots and Drones [6], in which we focus on how to enable an operator to control multi-drone systems. We present a tool for generating tasks and plans for multiple drones in wilderness SAR scenarios. The central aspect of our approach is to improve the search quality by automatically generating tasks to ensure timely coverage of high-risk areas, such as ditches, lake/sea banks, and beneath tree lines, where distressed people are likely to be found.

The growing demand for recombinant-based products has increased rapidly in recent years. One of the current market scopes is the production of recombinant scorpion antivenoms in E. coli. However, there are limitations in real-time quantification of Critical Quality Attributes (CQAs), such as recombinant proteins or biomass concentrations. Soft sensors merge as an alternative to solve this problem. In this work, six data-driven soft sensors were developed for online monitoring of the recombinant protein concentration. First, feature selection methods were tested to determine the relevant online variables to train the soft sensors. Then, the protein experimental dataset was augmented using a hybrid model. The K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), and the Radial Basis Function (RBF) Support Vector Machine (SVM) obtained the best results with R-2 values higher than 0.996, RMSE and MAE values less than 0.058 and 0.051. However, the KNN soft sensor was computed in less time than the RBF SVM soft sensor. These results show the feasibility of KNN and RBF soft sensors for real-time monitoring of recombinant scorpion antivenoms.
