This paper presents application of machine learning and geospatial analysis to examine sentiments from Twitter data during the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Utilizing machine learning models (linear SVM and logistic regression), we effectively categorized sentiments into negative, neutral, and positive classes, attaining impressive overall accuracy of 96.8% and 97.1%, respectively. The geospatial analysis led to map sentiment across various geographical locations in India, reflecting diverse public sentiment throughout the IPL season. We noticed intriguing temporal and spatial variations in sentiment distribution across March, April, and May in 2023, visually represented via a heatmap. This comprehensive examination of sentiment distribution, linked to a significant event like the IPL, opens new horizons for understanding public perception and emotional response to large-scale sporting events. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

The journalism industry in Morocco has undergone a digital shift in recent months thanks to the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), which has become an essential element of this industry, radically transforming the way in which news organisms operate and interact with their audience. This article develops a reflection around the positive impact of AI on the performance of a press company, seeking to adapt to the challenges of modern journalism, whether in terms of surveillance, advanced analysis of data or automatic fact-checking. It thus addresses the use of 15 Moroccan press companies, of several AI tools, with the aim of strengthening their capacity to reach a wider audience and maintain their position as reliable and relevant sources of information. This is a study based on a qualitative methodology, carried out in collaboration with professionals in the field (AI managers, engineers, journalists from 15 press companies), with the aim of providing in-depth analysis and qualitative data relating to how AI impacts organisms’ performance, while exploring the challenges and opportunities inherent in its use. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

This study updates our current knowledge of the floristic diversity of the Sidi Boughaba biological reserve, following the climatic change in the area from sub-humid to semi-arid. Floristic analysis of the 124 relevés carried out over the 652 ha of the site using stratified sampling revealed the existence of 270 species and subspecies spread over 199 genera and 58 families, the best represented of which are the Fabaceae, Asteraceae and Poaceae. The most represented genera are: Trifolium, Medicago, Asparagus, Sonchus, Ononis, Linaria and Euphorbia. Therophytes dominate the biological spectrum. Indices of diversity, equitability and perturbation are calculated for the reserve and also for the nine phyto-sociological groupings on the site. The results show that the flora is highly diverse and evenly distributed, but that there are differences between certain plant groupings, such as mobile and consolidated grey dunes. The perturbation index indicates a high degree of degradation, which is effectively observed in the edge groups and those bordering cultivated land. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

In this paper, we demonstrated the application of artificial neural networks in the field of educational data mining. The study is based on the data obtained from the large educational database, containing detailed information (more than 2 billion information units) describing educational processes in more than a thousand schools. Initial preprocessing of raw data was performed by using Big Data methods based on Dask framework. We developed predictive models, based on artificial neural networks. The models are represented by various feed-forward architectures built on the basis of PyTorch framework. In this work, we solved a specific problem, aimed to build a model for predicting the success of a school teacher, based on information about the educational process. The most optimal neural network-based architectures for solving this problem were obtained. To understand the features of trained models, interpretation methods based in Integrated Gradients and SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) were used. The developed system allows to effectively predict and to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the educational process in schools. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Advanced Construction Materials Based on Concrete to Protect the Living Space from Non-Ionizing Radiation 1

This paper presents measurements of the reflection and transmission coefficient of electromagnetic waves through concrete and two concrete-based composites: concrete with steel fibers and concrete with carbon fibers with the aim of enhancing the attenuation of electromagnetic waves passing through concrete and concrete composites. The frequency range for which the measurements were carried out extends from 30 MHz to 18 GHz and includes most of the existing stationary (and mobile) radiation EM sources in the environment in which the general population moves (FM, DVBT2, 2G - 5G mobile radio systems, stationary radar border area control systems). The measurement results show that as the thickness of the concrete increases, the transmission through concrete and concrete composites decreases (parameter S12 decreases). Furthermore, composites with carbon fibers partially reduce, while those with steel fibers significantly reduce, the transmission of EM waves through such composites. The reduction of parameter S12 by composites with steel is up to 52 dB (at a frequency of 2.9 GHz) for a block thickness of 100 mm. It is important to emphasize that in the case of composites with steel fibers, the influence of the fibers on the transmission parameters is more significant than the thickness of the sample. The reason for this is the increase in electrical conductivity of composites with steel fibers due to the increased proportion of conductive components in the concrete. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The Prefecture of Tangier Assilah is experiencing an increasingly significant demand for construction materials, hence the need to open and operate new quarries. However, this constitutes an environmental risk on various scales. Hence, it is imperative to work towards an adequacy of the legal framework governing this activity, to raise several questions concerning the impacts on the environmental and socio-economic dimensions, to take up the challenge consisting of controlling these impacts and their integrated management, and to dissect some new technical measures likely to improve the governance of this activity. In this context, the main objective of this Study is to evaluate the potential of exploitable deposits in the Prefecture of Tangier Assilah, and the re-evaluation, according to legislative, technical or environmental constraints, of the possibilities of extension on the sites currently under development exploitation. This aims also to a better management and rational exploitation, thus facilitating the establishment of a quarry management plans in the Tangier-Assilah prefecture. To do this, the work was carried out in several phases, starting with the preparation of a cartographic database of the sector, field surveys, collection and analysis of data, and finally their processing under a GIS environment. Data analysis revealed the presence of 26 quarries in the prefecture, including 2 in activity, 3 in installation, and 1 inactive with a dominance of rock quarries, especially sandstone (19 quarries). The study carried out made it possible to identify at least 5 new sites, whose deposit will allow potential exploitation and the supply of sectors requiring at the prefecture level, while, located in rural areas, will be able to ensure the supply of the local market at middle term. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Customers receive a little plastic payment card called a credit card. It allows the holder access to the market to purchase goods and services mostly on the promise of payment from the holder. The card issuer sets up a revolving account and offers the cardholder a credit line from which they can borrow money for either personal use or to pay for goods or services. To control risks and keep a strong credit portfolio, financial institutions must foresee credit card defaults. In this study, we investigate how to categorize clients who have not paid their credit card balances using the random forest algorithm. We examine the effectiveness of random forest in precisely detecting probable defaulters using a dataset comprising credit card payment history. The study highlights the benefits and drawbacks of the random forest technique through data preprocessing, model application, and performance evaluation. For credit card issuers to make wise judgments and reduce potential financial losses, the findings offer insightful information. The experiment in this study uses real-time data collection obtained from a third-party agency and a random forest technique with tenfold cross-validation. The findings demonstrated that random forest is the best method for categorizing credit card delinquent clients. The classifier outperforms itself in predicting the most likely defaulters with an accuracy of 97.73%, while the classifier’s overall accuracy is 84.703%, according to the experimental data. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

This paper represents a comprehensive review of the effect of elastane and common wet processes (bleaching, dyeing, and softening) on the properties of 100% cotton and half or full plated cotton/elastane single jersey knitted fabrics. The fabrics were characterized in terms of their structural (fabric weight, thickness, and stitch density), comfort (air permeability and water vapor resistance), mechanical (stiffness, bursting elongation, and bursting strength), and antistatic (volume electrical resistivity) properties. Fabrics’ antistatic properties were further improved by in situ synthesis of Cu-based nanoparticles (CuNPs) on their surfaces. Such fabrics can be also considered as bioactive since they possessed excellent antioxidant (determined using the ABTS method) and antimicrobial (against E. Coli, S. aureus, and C. albicans) activities. The last section of this chapter is focused on proposing a novel circular economy solution for the disposal of softened cotton and cotton/elastane knitted fabric waste collected from the textile industry (i.e., after clothing cutting). For that purpose, selected fabrics were revalorized as adsorbents for the widely used textile dye Congo Red and the maximum dye adsorption was tested using isotherm models. Thereafter, the fabrics with adsorbed Congo Red dye were evaluated as antistatic and dissipative fabrics, i.e., as alternative non-metal-based conductive textiles. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Retention in Second Year Computing Students in a London-Based University During the Post-COVID-19 Era Using Learned Optimism as a Lens: A Statistical Analysis in R 1

The aim of the current research project is to investigate the low retention rate in second-year undergraduate computing students at a London-based university. The research is conducted in 2022 during the post-COVID-19 era using learned optimism as a lens and compares to the 2021 study Chrysikos et al. [1]. The main aim is to support the university’s efforts to improve retention rate as the overall dropout has been increasing in the last few years. The research methodology employed was an exploratory investigation approach by using statistical modelling analysis in R to predict behavioural patterns. The study aimed to discover any effect the CODE-It initiative had on student grades and optimism scores, to quantify its success as an initiative. The primary outcome of the data analysis indicates that the CODE-It initiative had a positive impact on student optimism scores, particularly among black ethnicity students. Additionally, a slight increase in optimism was observed among the least optimistic students. The return to in-person interaction with classmates and lecturers may have played a significant role in raising the minimum scores compared to the 2021 study [1]. Nevertheless, many students continue to grapple with the lasting effects of the post-pandemic era, particularly in matters of financial hardship. Finally, for those students who did attend CODE-It, 85% showed that they felt it was a worthwhile exercise. Specifically, black ethnicity students had a higher proportion of attendance and were no longer the student ethnicity group with the lowest optimism score. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

This paper gives the performance analysis of the frequency shift keying modulation under Rayleigh and Rician fading channels in wireless communication. This performance is analyzed in account of AWGN (Additive White Gaussian Noise Channel). The graphs are taken by comparing the BER (bit error rate) of both the Rayleigh and Rician Channels. And the comparison table is taken by comparing SNR and BER of Rayleigh and Rician channels.
