As part of the study to determine the possible causes of cracking in the metal structure of the "Kirovets" reloading gantry crane 16/20, an experimental determination of the material strength characteristics of its metal structure has been performed. Hardness measurements have been made for this using the "Vector" impact hardness tester on various structural elements, such as gib, arm, frame, portal. To determine the ultimate strength, yield and endurance of the material through the steel hardness, analytical dependences are used. The data obtained are approximated by the Weibull law with three parameters by the maximum likelihood (ML) method. The results of the experiment showed that the shear parameters of the distributions of ultimate strength, yield strength, endurance turned out to be less than the minimum values of these characteristics specified in accordance with GOST 19281–89. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

In order to ensure pipeline safety during their service life, all relevant construction, testing and safety requirements must be met. Corrosion damage is a major hazard to the steel pipeline as a whole, and it is necessary to comply with inspections and adequate maintenance so that destruction with catastrophic consequences would be avoided. In this paper, the standard calculation for determining the maximum acceptable corrosion damage length according to the RSTRENG method is presented using the calculation of the corrosion-damaged structure of the ammonia (NH3) transfer pipeline. After that, the methodological approach to calculation using the finite element method (FEM) is presented in accordance with the methods defined by the new and general approach to standardization and technical harmonization for pressure equipment (Pressure Equipment Directive). The aim of the work was to present advanced modeling techniques of corroded surfaces based on FEM in order to develop a procedure for evaluating the residual strength of steel pipelines in the chemical industry. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

This research rigorously investigates the intricate relationship between college students’ digital engagement and their adherence to cybersecurity practices. Against the backdrop of technology’s ubiquitous integration into our lives, college students are progressively relying on digital platforms for communication, social interaction, and education. However, this transition simultaneously exposes them to an array of cyber threats, encompassing identity theft, data breaches, and malware intrusions. Employing a comprehensive survey questionnaire, this study methodically extracts insights from a representative college student sample. By disentangling the dimensions of their digital engagement—marked by the frequency of social media interaction, involvement in online gaming, and utilization of mobile devices—the research illuminates their corresponding dedication to cybersecurity practices. These practices encompass the pivotal domains of password management, the adoption of antivirus software, and the cultivation of vigilant awareness towards phishing threats. The core of the analysis lies in employing regression analysis in Excel to unveil a trove of findings. The exploration of college students’ digital engagement patterns and their ensuing cybersecurity behaviors yields a nexus of multifaceted relationships. These intricate interconnections, in turn, offer a compelling foundation for informed implications. The discerned associations between digital engagement and cybersecurity practices furnish invaluable insights, charting a course for tailored educational strategies and astute awareness campaigns. The lack of reliable, low-cost fire detection systems within the central local market communities of East Africa (EA) has resulted in serious catastrophic fire accidents that have resulted in loss of life and property. Proposed satellite systems are expensive to acquire and maintain. Also, unit sensor smoke detectors are highly susceptible to false alarm rates. The proposed low-cost fire detection system prototype was implemented using the Arduino UNO, Arduino IDE platforms integrated with the fuzzy logic technique to determine an informed fire status decision. Hence, the proposed solution ensures appropriate public fire safety protection for the nearby market community by providing early warning alarm notification in case of a fire outbreak. Obtained results show that the proposed fire detection system prototype using fuzzy logic exhibited an accuracy rate of 91% using a confusion matrix model (CMM) evaluation method. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

The purpose of this conference on healthcare efficiency is to estimate the relative efficiency of hospitals using data envelopment analysis (DEA). The authors developed a set of efficiency indicators for hospitals based on their three main functions: quality of care, commitment of health personnel, and level of hospital infrastructure. Using hypothetical data from 77 hospital networks (local, provincial, and regional) in Morocco, the authors identified the inputs and outputs that have an impact on the supply of hospital care. The DEA revealed interesting results regarding efficient and inefficient hospital networks and provided recommendations on how to improve the inefficient ones. Additionally, the DEA was found to be better than traditional accounting methods for evaluating performance. The results indicate that technical efficiency is generally low, and the authors offered recommendations for improving efficiency through strategies that focus on patients, transparency, and accountability. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Anomaly-based IDS (AIDS) is a vital component of network security, and its successful deployment relies on the utilization of deep learning or machine learning algorithms. However, a review of existing AIDS literature reveals various issues, such as arbitrary algorithm selection, parameter choices, testing criteria, utilization of outdated datasets, and inadequate result analysis and validation. This comprehensive paper addresses these shortcomings by benchmarking previous AIDS studies using CICIDS2017 dataset and attack types to identify the most suitable algorithms, parameters, and testing criteria. Aim is to assess two commonly used Machine Learning (ML) algorithms and present models for each of them, thoroughly examine training and tuning parameters, and to evaluate the performance of classifiers, it is essential to utilize various metrics including F-score T-positive, T-negative rates, accuracy, precision, and recall. To ensure an accurate evaluation, make use of the multiclass CICIDS2017 dataset, which is known for its high level of class imbalance. Comprising real-world network attacks for the training and testing time of ML-AIDS models to evaluate their efficiency. Findings demonstrate that Random Forest classifier and Decision Tree Classifier models outperform other approaches, exhibiting superior capabilities in detecting web attacks. Models surpass others in accuracy, precision, recall, and F-score, showcasing their remarkable effectiveness and efficiency. Specifically, the accuracy evaluation yielded a score of 98.13%, while the recall achieved an impressive 98.51%. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The COVID-19 pandemic, which affected every aspect of global activity and had an impact comparable to those of 1929, 1973, and 2008, transformed into a genuine worldwide economic crisis. Morocco has had to manage the issues and challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic just like any other nation. Amid these challenges, Morocco has been able to respond quickly and effectively, through the implementation of various policies and initiatives. Through these strategies, Morocco has been able to current the rate of infections, protect the health of citizens and lessen the economic impact of the pandemic. In order to assess the effectiveness of certified management systems in identifying pandemic risks, the impact of the pandemic on business activity, and the provision of digital solutions during the lockdown period to ensure business continuity from March to May 2020, a survey of 49 companies in the Moroccan territory was conducted. This results in interdependencies between these various variables that are confirmed in the second survey between December 2022 and February 2023 for the same companies (49 companies that participated in the 2020 survey) in order to examine the certification evolution of their management systems and the information systems used, as well as the contribution to averting the post-covid crisis and whether new artificial intelligence technologies have been incorporated into information systems. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

The evaluation of food texture is an essential aspect of food quality control, directly influencing consumer acceptance and preference. Various methods have been developed to assess food texture, including sensory evaluation, rheological measurements, and instrumental analysis. Among the versatile instruments used for measuring the mechanical properties of food, the universal testing machine (UTM) stands out. Traditionally used in the field of materials science and engineering, the possibility of applying UTM for evaluating food textures has gained significant attention in recent years. The UTM can perform compression, tension, bending, and shear tests on food samples, providing objective and quantifiable data on their mechanical properties. Compression testing involves measuring the force required to compress a food sample between two plates, shear testing measures the force required to cut through a food sample, while puncture testing measures the force required to puncture a food sample with a probe. This paper reviews the current state-of-the-art of UTM in the evaluation of food textures, including the types of tests that can be performed, the parameters that can be measured, and the challenges and limitations associated with the technique. The potential of utilizing UTMs in the food industry for quality control and product development, instead of traditional sensory evaluation methods, is discussed, along with its advantages and disadvantages. Overall, UTM represents a promising tool for the objective evaluation of food textures, and further research is needed to optimize its application in this field. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

A variety of viral infections can develop in pneumonia–known to be highly catastrophic lung disease. Due to the close association between pneumonia and other lung disorders, the diagnosis of pneumonia using chest X-ray images presents a significant challenge. Due to this issue, higher levels of accuracy cannot be gained from the recent approaches for detecting pneumonia. In this research, pneumonia is classified using deep learning algorithms. CNN model was developed to make chest X-ray diagnosis easier. Furthermore, the utilization of pre-trained convolutional neural network (CNN) models, which extract features from vast datasets, proves highly advantageous in the branch of image classification applications. In our analysis, we use a selection process to determine the most suitable CNN model for the task at hand. CNN models offer substantial assistance in the evaluation of chest X-ray images, particularly in the identification of pneumonia. The integration of robotics into agriculture has opened up new possibilities for efficient and precise crop harvesting. In particular, the application of Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) in guiding robots to navigate palm plantations for harvesting presents a promising solution to enhance productivity and reduce labor costs (Dorigo et al. 2006). This abstract introduces the utilization of ACO for the robotic harvesting of palm crops and presents the problem, methodology, and proposed solution. Harvesting palm crops within vast plantations is a labor-intensive and time-consuming process. It poses several challenges, including the need to navigate complex terrain, identify ripe fruits accurately, and optimize harvesting routes. Traditional methods often rely heavily on manual labor, resulting in inefficiencies, increased costs, and potential crop losses due to suboptimal harvesting practices. To overcome these challenges, an automated solution that efficiently guides robotic agents through the plantation, ensuring ripe palm crops are collected, is essential (Shafie et al. 2023). The proposed methodology employs ACO, inspired by the foraging behavior of ants, to tackle the navigation and harvesting problem in palm plantations. The key steps of this approach firstly palm plantation is represented as a graph, where nodes correspond to key locations, such as palm trees, and edges represent navigable paths between them (Shahadat et al. 2022). This structured representation forms the foundation for efficient route planning. Robotic agents rely on heuristic information, such as the distance to the nearest palm tree and the ripeness of the crop, to make informed decisions during navigation and harvesting. Pheromone levels on paths are updated based on the quantity and quality of harvested crops (Shah et al. 2023). This feedback mechanism allows the system to reinforce successful routes and adapt to changing conditions within the plantation. ACO balances the exploration of new ro
