Smart grid capabilities have grown significantly in recent years. The smart grid provides advanced real-time handling of faults, advanced automatic control for efficient electricity transmission, monitoring and collection of the electrical system's capacity, and communication for information sharing. Unfortunately, its exposure to public networks makes it increasingly vulnerable to privacy breaches, vulnerabilities, and cyber-attacks. Cyber security threats and vulnerabilities in smart grid networks have become a primary concern that needs to be addressed before deploying a smart grid. Furthermore, the wide range of protocols increases the attack surface of a smart grid. This study focuses on the vulnerability of Modbus, which is regarded as one of the most prevalent control protocols in smart grid communication networks. This paper presents preliminary findings of analyzing cyber-attacks against the Modbus protocol using a virtual testbed to investigate its effects on the smart grid network protocol. The concept incorporates an emulated Modbus/TCP network environment built from open-source software components that imitate fundamental industrial control features of the smart grid. Finally, we analyze the cycle of a cyber-attack leading through Reconnaissance to a DoS attack on the Modbus/TCP protocol and propose improvements to the test bed for protocol attack detection and mitigation.

Rapid development of hardware goes hand-in-hand with the advancement of modern computer vision (CV) algorithms. In a typical machine learning operations (MLOps) flow, this continuous evolution of hardware and software is coupled with an active growth in data collected for training. These three pillars of MLOps continue their parallel continuous integration and improvement after an iteration of the deployment has been released. Ideally, the data chosen to improve the next iteration of the deployment is tailored for the future software solution and the future hardware capabilities which enable it. However, here we have a causality problem, where data needs to be collected for a future algorithm from a fleet of deployments which are still running the last iteration of software and hardware. In this paper, we prove that models of previous MLOps iterations are capable surrogates for choosing data for future network architectures running on more capable hardware. We show that surrogate models for the DeepLabv3+ architecture using a ResNet-50 backbone provide a +3.2 p.p. mIoU improvement on average using uncertainty scores over randomly selecting data to train the deployment model on the CityScapes dataset. Further, we show that the type of surrogate has a huge impact on the prediction capability of the deployment model. For instance, the prediction capability of a deployment model, DeepLabv3+, using a MobileNetV3 backbone, can vary by up to +2.4 p.p. on the CityScapes dataset.

The paper discusses the role of immersion in rehabilitation systems based on implementation of virtual and augmented reality with an example of intelligent recognition of psycho-emotional state. The automated solution is presented for virtual reality systems capable of analysis of the user's immersion, which extends the concept of accented visualization. As an experiment, we consider the case of analyzing the reflexive state of subjects who were shown images of faces exaggeratedly depicting certain emotions. The results demonstrate the possibility and importance of controlling the degree of involvement of the user of the immersive environment in the applications of psychological diagnostics and medical rehabilitation.

Ambient Assistance uses the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to monitor elderly people at home, improving their quality of life through wearable sensors, audio-video technology, and ubiquitous computing. Social isolation, a critical issue for seniors, poses a greater risk to mortality than obesity or physical inactivity, threatening the health and independence of adults over 65. While commercial solutions exist, they are costly and often disregard user context and caregiver needs. This article presents a system that prioritizes user autonomy by notifying the elderly adult before caregivers. It supports various devices and provides a platform for exploring wearable sensors for the elderly, with the aim of reducing social isolation by reassuring loved ones when the user is in a safe area. The system offers caregivers contextual alerts, real-time visualization, and two-way communication when the elderly person leaves a designated safe zone. Our study consisted of two phases: laboratory tests to validate system components and interfaces, followed by a 2-year longitudinal study with an elderly participant and their caregiver, analyzing long-term usage patterns and real-world effectiveness. Our technological findings demonstrate the system's robustness and efficiency. We achieved an 80% uptime over the 2-year period, with an average notification delay of less than 2 s. The system successfully integrated with various IoT devices, including smartwatches, door sensors, and motion detectors. Key challenges included minimizing false alarms, which were reduced to less than 1% using MapReduce-based data processing algorithms, and ensuring seamless operation in diverse network conditions. Although promising, the limitations of the study require further research with a larger sample size. Cloud computing has emerged as a popular paradigm for delivering on-demand computing resources over the Internet. Resource allocation and load balancing are crucial elements of job scheduling because they enable the distribution of a growing volume of jobs to a finite number of virtual machines (VMs). The key objectives of load balancing and resource allocation are effective resource utilisation, performance optimisation, and cost optimisation. By achieving these objectives, cloud systems may provide effective services to meet user requirements and utilise resources as efficiently and economically as possible. In this study, we propose a novel approach for optimal resource allocation in cloud computing using a hybrid ant colony optimisation and differential evolution (ACO-DE) algorithm. In order to balance the load of VMs from cloud service providers (CSPs), the novel ACO-DE algorithm first generates the shortest routes, then allocates jobs to each VM to distribute resources in the most effective way. The exploration and exploitation abilities of ACO are used to produce an optimal solution, which is further refined using the DE operators. To evaluate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm, various experiments are carried out in a simulated environment to fulfil the key objective. The experiment results revealed the superior performance of the proposed algorithm over the ACO and DE algorithms individually.

In the new normal era after the COVID-19 pandemic, the halal tourism sector began to stretch again among the efforts made by halal tourism actors to revive halal tourism after the pandemic is ensuring the implementation of Sharia hotels against CHSE health protocols and compliance with Sharia principles. CHSE stands for cleanliness, health, safety, and environment sustainability. The application of CHSE and adherence to Sharia principles is interesting to study because it has been proven that the application of Sharia hotels to CHSE and its adherence to Sharia principles attracts more hotel guests, so hotel occupancy rates are higher. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the extent to which the application of Sharia hotels in Yogyakarta, especially Grand Rohan Jogja Hotel, to CHSE and its compliance with Sharia principles. The research method used is qualitative research. The research data consists of primary and secondary data. In addition, observations and interviews have been conducted to extract information directly from the informants concerned. The findings of this study are that Grand Rohan Jogja Hotel has implemented the CHSE protocol and received recognition from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy in the form of a CHSE certificate. In addition, Grand Rohan Jogja Hotel adheres to Sharia principles as stipulated by the Indonesian Ulema Council so that guests feel comfortable staying.

In learning robotics, techniques such as Learning from Demonstrations (LfD) and Reinforcement Learning (RL) have become widely popular among developers. However, this approximations can result in inefficient strategies when it comes to train more than one agent interacting in the same space with several objects and unknown obstacles. To solve this problematic, Reinforcement Learning from Demonstration (RLfD) allows the agent to learn and evaluate its performance from a set of demonstrations provided by a human expert while generalising from them using RL training. In dual-robot applications this approach is suitable for training agents that perform collaborative tasks. For this reason, a dual-robot haptic interface has been designed in order to produce dual manipulation trajectories to feed a RLfD agent. Haptics allows to perform high quality demonstrations following an impedance control approach. Trajectories obtained will be used as positive demonstrations so the training environment can generate automatic ones. As a result, this dual-robot haptic interface will provide a few trajectory demonstrations on dual manipulation in order to train agents using RL strategies. The aim of this research is to generate trajectories with this dual-robot haptic interface to train one or more agents following RLfD paradigms. Results show that trajectories performed with this interface present less error and deviation than others performed with a non-haptic interface, increasing the quality of the training data.

One of the most important concerns facing society is crime prevention. The rate of crime is sharply rising in spite of the implementation of numerous measures. As of 2023, the total number of crimes reported in India is 445.9 per 100,000 citizens. Moreover, it has been found that the most common type of crime in India is theft, with a crime rate of 42.9 incidents per lakh population. This paper proposes the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to develop a model that predicts criminal activities. An algorithm is formulated based on logic and pattern recognition to validate the proposed solution. The method applied is design thinking that employs a holistic approach to develop an efficient crime prevention system. Human-computer interaction, an integral part of the predictive model, is utilised to address loopholes in the proposed system. The internet-of-things (IoT) is employed in this study to enable connectivity and communication, while artificial intelligence (AI) is utilised to optimise system performance. Model validation is carried out by developing a python code and designing the interface screens. Furthermore, this predictive model is applied in a home security device. It can thus be seen that the algorithm and the system are flexible for various applications based on different needs and will in turn help in the reduction of criminal activities, ensuring the creation of a safe society. The future scope indicated involves improving the model by using data from different types of crimes and regions.
