Parkinson's disease (PD) is an advancing neurodegenerative condition characterized by motor symptoms, including disturbances in gait and varying degrees of severity, typically assessed using the Hoehn and Yahr stages. Precise classification of PD gait patterns and severity levels is of paramount importance for efficient diagnosis and continuous treatment monitoring. This research article presents a comprehensive assessment of the performance of three distinct Artificial Neural Network (ANN) models integrated with diverse data processing techniques, encompassing segmentation, filtration, and noise reduction, in the context of classifying PD severity. The classification is based on the vertical ground reaction force (VGRF) measurements obtained from both healthy individuals and those afflicted by Parkinson's disease, sourced from a well-established database (GaitPDB, Physio Net). The study provides a comparative analysis of the efficacy of these models in accurately discriminating between various gait patterns and stages of disease severity, underscoring their potential to enhance clinical decision-making and patient care. Additionally, the study offers valuable insights into the impact of data processing methodologies on classification performance.

Improving Zero Trust Security in Edge Computing Environments presents unique problems and necessitates novel solutions to secure sensitive data and lessen the dangers associated with edge computing installations. This article explores the challenges and solutions for improving Zero Trust Security in edge computing environments. The distributed and heterogeneous nature of edge ecosystems, limited resources, dynamic and mobile nature, scalability and performance concerns, network latency and bandwidth constraints, and scalability and performance concerns contribute to the challenges. Careful analysis and specific security solutions are needed to achieve a solid security posture. Several ways to overcome these issues include identity and access management mechanisms, secure network segmentation, continuous monitoring and threat detection systems, and authentication and authorization technologies. Zero Trust Security must be integrated with edge computing architectures for effective deployment. Edge security gateway and firewall systems provide perimeter protection for edge settings, while cloud-based security services and threat intelligence improve threat detection and response capabilities. The article also includes case studies and recommended practices, exploring lessons gained and ideas for implementing Zero Trust Security in edge computing settings. Future directions and emerging trends in Zero Trust Security for Edge Computing are investigated, offering insights into the growing security landscape in edge settings.

Recently, ChatGPT has become a hot topic, and just as AlphaGo contributed to the spread of AI in 2016, ChatGPT is now considered to have a significant cultural significance due to its direct impact on our daily lives. Furthermore, GPT's transformer also utilizes transfer learning techniques with the pre-trained GPT-3 model. In this paper, we aim to apply transfer learning to image processing, specifically creating a model for detecting humans using thermal imaging data with transfer learning applied to a pre-trained model with visible light data. In this study, the yolov5 model was used as the training model, and pretraining was performed using the coco dataset. The thermal imaging dataset for training and testing was obtained using open data from roboflow and data captured with a Lepton3.5 thermal camera. Through an experiment of detecting humans in thermal images using transfer learning, it was observed that the training speed was accelerated and the performance was improved.

In this paper we give the numerical simulation of the fourth-order transverse equation beam's equation, under the assumptions of elastic modulus, constant mass density and an applied load expressed as a function of the transverse displacement. In our approach we have used a B-spline basis, combined with a suitable collocation method and finite difference scheme. By a rigorous treatment of the boundary conditions we have obtained an efficient higher-order method for an accurate numerical solution of the beam's equation. Some non trivial numerical examples show the high efficiency of our approach, its versatility and effectiveness, surpassing conventional benchmarks.

The article is devoted to the issues of automation of software creation processes and the issue of creating universal testing tools for mobile device applications. The paper discusses in detail the process of creating a tool for automated testing that allows you to test applications created for Android and iOS and also provides the results of the research conducted to determine the completeness of the test coverage and reduce the time spent on testing procedures for mobile applications that arise when using the developed tool for all qualifying categories of specialists involved in testing applications. The novelty of the proposed method consists of automatic code generation of test scenarios based on the analysis of transitions between application pages, which provides the greatest coverage of transitions and methods associated with them. The modular method of constructing the solution proposed by the authors will allow the future to simply expand the functionality of the solution by adding new algorithms and testing modes, significantly increasing the "coverage area" of automated test scenarios.

Trains have a constrained schedule and are not available on demand. If a malfunction is detected, the moment and the place to fix the problem while keeping the network at its optimal use may not be easy to find, given that there will be multiple problems throughout the network. Deciding of the maintenance requests the solution of a scheduling problem. The goal of this research is to provide an efficient solution to this problem. To achieve this aim, we develop a mixed integer linear programming model, a constraint programming model and multiple heuristic algorithms such as a Local Branching (LB) over the mixed integer linear programming model and a Variable Partitioning Local Search (VPLS) over the constraint programming model.

Microglia are glial cells residing in the central nervous system (CNS). They represent the first line of immune defence within the CNS and are responsible for fundamental physiological and pathological processes. Given their importance, the quantification of these cells is fundamental in a clinical context. However, this process is a major challenge, as conventional cell counting involves a specific set of tools and devices, being extremely costly. Currently, most cell-counting processes are manual. Such processes are time-consuming, tedious, and imprecise, being heavily dependent on the operator. To address this, new approaches have been developed to improve the quantification process. Indeed, an automated solution can greatly increase the standardised process as it shows better accuracy and efficiency. In this work, we compare and demonstrate that, on the one hand, we have classical computational approaches, where software and assistants for automatic cell counting, such as ImageJ, are applied in images that contain scattered cells. On the other hand, deep learning approaches show similar accuracy to the manual counting process but present a significant enhancement in reproducibility and efficiency.

Existing data trading markets trade source data, which inevitably raises the issue of data ownership, and more recently model trading markets, which trade on machine learning models that guarantee the ownership of the data owner, have become increasingly popular. However, there are still difficulties in the assessment of the utility of the model and the distribution of market benefits. In this paper, we design a framework for a model trading market (MDB) that considers the interaction between data providers and broker. We evaluate the utility of the model in a variety of ways, including data quality, privacy protection needs, and the number of data providers, and reveal the dynamic decision-making process of data providers as they trade off the utility of privacy against the utility of data compensation. At the same time, we analyze the optimal allocation compensation strategy of brokers to maximize the welfare of the whole market. The feasibility and effectiveness of the MDB model trading market are demonstrated by numerical results.

In the aftermath of ransomware incidents in UK and US hospitals, healthcare cyber security strategies have faced criticism for lagging behind those of other industries, thereby making the healthcare sector more vulnerable to cyber-attacks. Security standards and regulations designed to support healthcare security generally recognize cyber security in healthcare as a complex socio-technical problem. Implementing technical countermeasures relies on the collaboration and commitment of various stakeholders. The systems Thinking approach (STAMP) has found applications across diverse socio-technical domain and its extension, STPA-sec, is tailored for cyber security analysis. STPA-sec has proven effective in addressing the sociotechnical challenges of cyber security. However, when applied in the area of limited resources, the efficacy of the methodology came at a cost (Kaberuka and Johnson in: 2020 International conference on cyber security and protection of digital services (cyber security). IEEE, 2020). In fact, in regions with a scarcity of trained analysts and reliance on traditional cyber security methods, there is a need for detailed information to facilitate appropriate interventions. Hence, this paper argues that in an environment characterized by a shortage of socio-technical trained analysts, coupled with a substantial public demand and sociotechnical threats, there is a pressing need to offer adequate support. We observed several limitations in relation to security extension of the method. We propose an improvement with extended control inputs taxonomies that are pertinent to this context. Future work is needed to evaluate whether the extended technique becomes effective in the area with advanced trained analysts.

This study compares two computer vision methods to detect yellow sticky traps using unmanned autonomous vehicles in olive tree cultivation. The traps aim to combat and monitor the density of the Bactrocera oleae, an important pest that damages olive fruit, leading to substantial economic losses annually. The evaluation encompassed two distinct methods: firstly, an algorithm employing conventional segmentation techniques like thresholding and contour localization, and secondly, a contemporary artificial intelligence approach utilizing YOLOv8, a state-of-the-art technology. A specific dataset was created to train and adjust the two algorithms. At the end of the study, both were able to locate the trap precisely. The segmentation algorithm demonstrated superior performance at proximal distances (50 cm), outperforming the outcomes achieved by YOLOv8. In contrast, YOLOv8 exhibited sustained precision, irrespective of the distance under examination. These findings affirm the versatility of both algorithms, highlighting their adaptability to various contexts based on distinct application demands. Consideration of trade-offs between accuracy and processing speed is essential in determining the most appropriate algorithm for a given application.
