In recent years, the rise of IoT technology has led to a significant increase in the demand for real-time applications that require execution with prioritization. The challenge of scheduling fault-tolerant tasks in fog and cloud environments has become particularly crucial, especially when considering the need to minimize energy consumption in the nodes. This paper presents a comprehensive comparative study on fault-aware scheduling in IoT (Internet of Things) systems. The aim is to evaluate different scheduling approaches that improve fault tolerance in the dynamic and resource-constrained environment of IoT systems (especially at a fog or cloud level). We analyse and compare various related works that consider different constraints such as system reliability, resource utilization, and responsiveness to failures. The study aims to provide an overview of the strengths and weaknesses of existing fault-tolerant scheduling techniques in IoT systems, thereby facilitating a better understanding of their practical implications. Thus, this study contributes to the advancement of robust and reliable scheduling strategies for IoT applications.

Some neurosurgery procedures require precise information on the region of interest, and a quantitative control of the overall uncertainty. Such procedures often rely on image registration, which is an essential step in many of these workflows. However, the problem of registration error estimation (REE) remains a challenge, due to its lack of ground-truth. In this work, we establish different criteria to evaluate REE methods and we propose a regression U-Net, a supervised convolutional neural network approach, that is able to compute the REE for the case of deformable brain MRI mono-modal registration. The model is trained and tested separately on four modalities. The best result is for T1 images, with a root mean square deviation (RMSD) on the test set of 0.17mm for images with 1mm(3) isotropic voxels. We also tested the model generalization and transfer learning capabilities on a separate MRI data set with two modalities. For the T1 images, the direct inference has a RMSD of 0.62mm and the transfer learning method leads to a RMSD of 0.19 mm, also for volumes of 1mm(3) voxel size. These results demonstrate the feasibility of our approach and the possible use of a U-Net based model for REE in brain MRI registration. The proposed methods enable a better quantitative control of procedure uncertainty in neurosurgeries and open the way to closed loop robotic control in these procedures.

This paper describes how to improve performance in concurrent applications using a change of perspective from relational to NoSQL. Concurrency in programming has been used for many years to increase the efficiency of application code execution. This problem is particularly relevant in business applications that are used by multiple users simultaneously. The aim of this paper is to carry out a verification study of whether changing the data access layer and the type of database engine will result in increased performance in the execution of application code. The study will be carried out using the example of a school logbook application, which perfectly captures the disproportionate frequency of use of the application. The results of the research indicate that NoSQL solutions are superior to relational databases in terms of performance, flexibility of modification and expansion of the database structure.

This study examines the history education plan for prehistoric times in Korea using the metaverse. History education aims to cultivate historical thinking skills, and historical thinking skills are cultivated through imagination and vicarious experiences based on historical facts. In that respect, the metaverse becomes a useful tool for history education. Although a lot of information about the remains of the Paleolithic Age in Korea has been accumulated, the information is not comprehensively and systematically serviced. As a way to overcome this, the construction of an electronic map was conducted on a trial basis. After systematically organizing and sharing information on Paleolithic ruins through an electronic map, a metaverse construction plan was derived based on this. The core elements of the metaverse are the elements of experience and the contents of history education, and based on this, the history education plan for prehistoric times was summarized.

The paper addresses the use of an adaptive, recursive fuzzy modeling based on the notion of level set to forecast monthly streamflows of a major hydroelectric power plant reservoir at the northeast of Brazil. Streamflows are highly complex nonstationary time series with high variability during the year, a feature that turns modeling and forecasting very hard and challenging. The adaptive level set method is evaluated against periodic autoregressive moving average models, currently adopted by many power industries, and against granular, neural, neural fuzzy, recurrent neural, and data driven level set models. The results show that adaptive level set modeling achieves the best root mean square error performance, surpassing all the models considered herein.

Recommending trustworthy cloud services is essential to establishing credibility and ensuring better user decision-making based on their specific needs. Traditional recommendation approaches based on collaborative filtering face many challenges, including cold start problem, data sparsity and low accuracy and reliability of recommendations. We propose a social trust-based recommendation approach using matrix factorization which improves the recommendation accuracy and alleviates the problems of traditional recommendation systems. First, users' trust level is inferred from their interactions on social networks. Then, the social trust model is integrated with matrix factorization to generate reliable recommendations for users. Experiments conducted on two public datasets Epinions and WSdream demonstrate that social trust significantly improves recommendation accuracy in terms of error minimization compared to state-of-the-art recommender systems that do not take trust into account.
