Based on the practice of translation teaching in private colleges and universities, this research summarizes the research on corpus translation and translation research conducted by domestic and foreign scholars, and combines the application-oriented translation of private colleges and universities with the orientation of training goals, curriculum group design, teaching content selection, and implementation path planning so as to propose a new corpus-based micro-course teaching model. The results of teaching practice show that the new teaching mode is helpful to optimize the professional development teaching ecological environment of student translators, improve their English-Chinese bilingual expression level, diversify their learning methods, and significantly improve their sustainable and autonomous learning ability. In view of this, translation teaching in the construction of micro-translation major should further enrich corpus teaching resources and dynamically track students' use of corpus;translation teachers need to continuously improve corpus use technology, improve interdisciplinary ability, and adapt to the teaching reform of micro-translation major under the new situation needs.

As technology continues to advance, there is a growing interest in exploring the potential of generative agents and large language model (LLM)-powered virtual students to revolutionize the field of education. In this work, we present Evelyn AI, a LLM-powered virtual student conversation agent that we developed for pre-service teacher training in a virtual environment. Students powered by Evelyn AI exhibit varying baseline conceptual understanding levels, dynamic cognitive-affective states, and short-term memory. These features enable personalized, adaptive training and promote a more engaging and immersive learning experience for pre-service teachers. We describe the design and implementation of Evelyn AI, and report results of alpha testing to assess the utility of Evelyn AI for pre-service teacher training.

The scarcity of green spaces, in urban environments, consists a critical challenge. There are multiple adverse effects, impacting the health and well-being of the citizens. Small scale interventions, e.g. pocket parks, is a viable solution, but comes with multiple constraints, involving the design and implementation over a specific area. In this study, we harness the capabilities of generative AI for multi-scale intervention planning, focusing on nature based solutions. By leveraging image-to-image and image inpainting algorithms, we propose a methodology to address the green space deficit in urban areas. Focusing on two alleys in Thessaloniki, where greenery is lacking, we demonstrate the efficacy of our approach in visualizing NBS interventions. Our findings underscore the transformative potential of emerging technologies in shaping the future of urban intervention planning processes.

Guiding students towards achieving the Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) of an academic module as part of a mentoring process presents a significant challenge, as it is important not only to emphasize the necessary skills, but also to consider the ongoing personal progress towards achieving a learning outcome. In addition, most educational content is presented in a 'one-size-fits-all' way, without taking into account the individual needs of students. In this paper we present a recommendation system based on Reinforcement Learning (RL) that derives its suggestions from the students' progress towards achieving the ILOs and the current relevance of the ILOs, according to the specific didactic design of the module. The taxonomy model proposed by Anderson and Krathwohl, serves as the groundwork for abstracting ILO progress, temporal relevance, and the affiliation of recommendation items. In the process of creating a recommendation pool, experts identified the mathematical concept and the taxonomy level addressed by existing e-assessments in order to identify their possible association with ILOs. The RL agent utilizes this dynamic measurement of the student's ILO progress - measured by the Bayesian knowledge tracing algorithm - to improve its recommendations, contributing to the ongoing personalisation of learning paths. In our evaluation, which utilized a test set of 129 mathematical tasks, the tested RL algorithms significantly outperformed a random baseline, underscoring the potential of this approach to enhance personalized learning within the realm of higher education mathematics.

Technostress in distance learning in educational institutions is a critical problem as it strongly impacts students' learning ability and mental well-being. This phenomenon, characterized by an overload of digital technologies, has a detrimental effect on the efficiency of educational processes and learners' mental health. The Positive Learning project involves developing and evaluating learning scenarios anchored in pedagogical methodologies and competency frameworks to reduce technostress in educational institutions through carefully designed teaching strategies. The study's results, derived from a qualitative research methodology and collaboration with educators and academic experts, underscore the need to adapt learning scenarios to the target group and differentiate them for different school levels and educational contexts to reduce technostress. They also emphasize the crucial role of balancing technological integration and traditional teaching methods and the development of skills among students and teachers to manage technostress effectively. The study's practical implications are significant, offering insightful conclusions and recommendations that can inspire and motivate future educational policies and practices in the face of increasing digital integration in education.

Critical infrastructures are large and complex systems showing physical, geographical, cyber, and logical interdependencies. Assessing the consequences of faults, cyber-attacks, or natural events on critical infrastructures is fundamental to mitigate the impact of these events and to improve the resilience of the entire "system of systems". Modeling critical infrastructures is a way to understand how networks are interconnected and increase awareness. Our paper proposes a well-established framework for decomposing each infrastructure into its meaningful elements and their interconnections using the Mixed Holistic-Reductionist approach. CISIApro 2.0 is an agent-based simulator that implements the previous methodology. In this paper, we improve the framework using possibility theory to handle epistemic uncertainty. In contrast to randomness, epistemic uncertainty is caused by incomplete, ambiguous, or inaccurate knowledge. This is a problem in the modeling of critical infrastructures, due to the complexity of the physical process, the vagueness of telecommunications, and imprecise information. Including possibility and necessity measures in the CISIApro 2.0 simulator allows us to handle uncertainty in the propagating information in the model. The synthetic model is composed of eight interconnected infrastructures. The model output demonstrates the reasonableness of the proposed approach, although there is a need for further improvements, especially with regard to parameter tuning.

We have developed a dashboard that aids teachers in monitoring the need for support that students may have while constructing qualitative representations. The software features a built-in automated support function that provides cues and hints when students' representations deviate from the norm representation. The dashboard is thereby part of a hybrid support approach where teacher-, student-, dashboard-, and software-initiated support are available. We observed teachers' use of the dashboard during three lessons. Teachers used the dashboard frequently and the most common subsequent support action involved general encouragements for students to progress or to correct errors in their representations. After the lessons we interviewed the teachers for the usability, usefulness, effectiveness, and efficiency of the dashboard. Teachers find the dashboard informative and easy to use. However, they also report to find it challenging to implement the dashboard in their routine for providing support.

Smart home systems provide a lot of convenience for contemporary people's daily lives, and the popularity of smart homes is increasing yearly. However, the experience design of existing smart home systems for elderly users is still deficient, and the current age-friendly smart home systems lack user experience design guidelines for application design. Therefore, this study conducted an in-depth investigation of existing application design application roaches by investigating the overview of theories related to smart home systems and user experience elements, an in-depth study of the five-layer model of user experience elements, as well as combining the systematic application characteristics of smart home applications, and collecting user needs through user interviews, and dividing the needs of elderly users from strategic to performance layers through the user experience elements model. Finally, a competitor analysis was conducted to understand the problems that users have with similar products and to help establish the strategic positioning of the product. The study will provide new user experience design guidelines from different perspectives of application design. The study will improve the developers' design efficiency and further enhance the users' experience, thus creating a comfortable, safe, and free smart home life mode for the elderly.

In recent years, considerable efforts have been directed toward investigating the large amount of public transaction data in prominent cryptocurrencies. Nevertheless, aside from Bitcoin and Ethereum, little efforts have been made to investigate other cryptocurrencies, even though the market now comprises thousands, with more than 50 exceeding one billion dollars of capitalization, and some of them sporting innovative technical solutions and governance. This is the case for Polkadot, a relatively new blockchain that promises to solve the shortcomings in scalability and interoperability that encumber many existing blockchain-based systems. In particular, Polkadot relies on a novel multi-chain construction that promises to enable interoperability among heterogeneous blockchains. This paper presents the first study to formally model and investigate user transactions in the Polkadot network. Our contributions are multifolds: After defining proper and pseudo-spam transactions, we built the transaction graph based on data collected from the launch of the network, in May 2020, until July 2022. The dataset consists of roughly 11 million blocks, including 2 million user accounts and 7.6 million transactions. We applied a selected set of graph metrics, such as degree distribution, strongly/weakly connected components, density, and several centrality measures, to the collected data. In addition, we also investigated a few interesting idiosyncratic indicators, such as the accounts' balance over time and improper transactions. Our results shed light on the topology of the network, which resembles a heavy-tailed power-law distribution, demonstrate that Polkadot is affected by the rich get richer conundrum, and provide other insights into the financial ecosystem of the network. Sustainable eParticipation is defined as participation projects that last and become part of the democratic process. Many eParticipation projects fail in this regard. The eParticipation literature presents many studies and test, but few report on the aspects that can make tools and initiatives sustainable over time. The past decade's rise of populist rhetoric and populist parties in the west shows the urgency of finding good answers to the question of sustainability in eParticipation. In this paper, we argue that lightweight eParticipation initiatives, with low demands on time and effort from citizens, can contribute to sustainable eParticipation. We test this assumption through an evaluation of a Norwegian eParticipation system for low-threshold rapid feedback. Our findings indicate that while the system showed promise and was well received, there were still issues with sustainability, especially related to strategy and financing.
