Segmentation of organs and tumors from abdominal computed tomography (CT) scans is crucial for cancer diagnosis and surgical planning. Since traditional segmentation methods are subjective and labor-intensive, deep learning-based approaches have been introduced recently which incur high computational costs. This study proposes an accurate and efficient segmentation method for abdominal organs and tumors in CT images utilizing a partially-labeled abdominal CT dataset. Fine nnU-Net was used for the pseudo-labeling of unlabeled images. And the Label Fusion Algorithm combined the benefits of the provided datasets to build an optimal training dataset, using Swift nnU-Net for efficient inference. In online validation using Swift nnU-Net, the dice similarity coefficient (DSC) values for organs and tumors segmentation were 89.56% and 35.70%, respectively, and the normalized surface distance (NSD) values were 94.67% and 25.52%. In our own efficiency experiments, the inference time was an average of 10.7 s and the area under the GPU memory time curve was an average of 20316.72 MB. Our method enables accurate and efficient segmentation of abdominal organs and tumors using partially labeled data, unlabeled data, and pseudo-labels. This method could be applied to multi-organ and pan-cancer segmentation in abdominal CT images under low-resource environments.

Port cities have always been key hubs for the transport of goods and people. Ports meet global transportation needs, while being integrated into geographies subject to local policies. Maritime and logistical flows pass through ports and densely built-up areas, creating new environmental challenges. Political interests and strategies, technological development, migrations, trafficking of goods and flows of people are factors that influence spatial organization as well as land use to respond to the new challenges of the global market. This also involves changes in the morphology of port cities, which are by their nature dynamic, cosmopolitan and more open to change and the reorganization of the coastal space, from port cities to port regions. Ports are becoming increasingly hybrid, progressively changing shape and inserting new functions even beyond their administrative borders, renewing the relationships of Port Cities Symbiosis. In this paper we focus on the hybridization process of ports, to address new international challenges in particular. By analyzing some theoretical and real cases of Italian port system authorities - of the Sardinian Sea of the Eastern Adriatic Sea, Ports of Trieste and Monfalcone -, it is proposed to evaluate a synthetic hybridization matrix of ports, within the framework of the broader Port cities symbiosis phenomenon.

In gesture analysis, one must segment the gesture stream into discrete units to be analyzed for meaning and alignment with accompanying speech. This requires defining what constitutes a single "gesture". Following the influential work of Kendon (2004) and McNeill (2005), this nearly always involves identifying the "stroke", the gesture's meaningful core. Innovations in the understanding of gestural meaning complicate this procedure, as there is increasing evidence that gestures are both internally complex and compositional. In the present work, we discuss the ways in which this complexity in gestural meaning may be addressed by including the notion of "gesture sequences". Using data from American television talk shows and TED talks, we demonstrate two types of inter-stroke dependencies in pragmatic gestures where one movement's meaning and form is dependent on that of a previous movement: (i) "closing gestures" signal the closure of a discourse topic and are dependent on a preceding presentation gesture;(ii) "contrast sequences" signal a contrast discourse relation and are dependent on adjacent presentation gestures occurring in different regions of gesture space. These findings have important implications for both how we annotate the gesture stream and how we simulate gesture in virtual agents.

Reconfigurable architecture has great potential in computation-intensive and memory-intensive applications due to its flexible information configuration. Aiming at the problem of low computing efficiency caused by the inconsistency between different granularity data and the underlying hardware structure in applications such as communication baseband signal processing, a parallel computing method supporting multi-bit data is proposed, and a dynamic granularity configuration structure used this method is designed based on reconfigurable array processors. The structure divides the calculation granularity into 8 bits, 16 bits, and 32 bits, and realizes four functions: data-combination, data-splitting, parallel-addition, and parallel-multiplication. These features increase the parallelism and flexibility of array structures. The experimental results show that the speedup ratio can reach 1.5 within a certain error range, the running time is reduced by about 20%, and the code complexity is also significantly reduced. In addition, the maximum operating frequency of the dynamic configuration circuit is 133.5 MHz by FPGA comprehensive implementation, which can realize the dynamic configuration of different granularity data in the calculation and achieve parallel computing of multi-bit data.

Diagonal earlobe crease (DELC), also known as Frank's sign, is a diagonal crease, line, or deep fold that appears on the earlobe and has been hypothesized to be a potential predictor of heart attacks. The presence of DELC has been linked to cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, and increased risk of coronary artery disease. Some researchers believe that DELC may be an indicator of an impaired blood supply to the earlobe, which could reflect similar issues in the heart's blood supply. However, more research is needed to determine whether DELC is a reliable marker for identifying individuals at risk of heart attacks or other cardiovascular problems. To this end, the authors have released the first DELC dataset to the public and investigated the performance of numerous state-of-the-art backbones on annotated photos. The experiments demonstrated that combining pre-trained encoders with a customized classifier achieved 97.7% accuracy, with MobileNet being the most promising encoder in terms of the performance-to-size trade-off.

In the realm of intelligent public transportation systems, deep learning (DL) techniques are widely used to extract valuable insights from mobility-related data, on top of which it is possible to realized several use-cases. However, since DL models are expensive in terms of resource and energy consumptions, they are typically deployed on third-party clouds, posing challenges such as latency, privacy, and scalability. To address these issues, Federated Learning (FL) and EdgeAI have emerged as promising solutions. Despite their potential, several open challenges persist. The application of FL in public transport systems lacks exploration, while the theoretical understanding of KD's effectiveness remains incomplete. This research aims at addressing these challenges by leveraging FL to prevent data exchange among transport entities, and systematically employing KD for model compression. The ultimate goal is to facilitate the efficient integration of federated learning and EdgeAI to mitigate privacy and efficiency issues in distributed Intelligent Public Transportation Systems.

Occluded person re-identification (ReID) is a challenging computer vision task in which the goal is to identify specific pedestrians in occluded scenes across different devices. Some existing methods mainly focus on developing effective data augmentation and representation learning techniques to improve the performance of person ReID systems. However, existing data augmentation strategies can not make full use of the information in the training data to accurately simulate the occlusion scenario, resulting in poor generalization ability. Additionally, recent Vision Transformer (ViT)-based methods have been shown beneficial for addressing occluded person ReID as they have powerful representation learning ability, but they always ignore the information fusion between different levels of features. To alleviate these two issues, an improved ViT-based framework called Parallel Dense Vision Transformer and Augmentation Network (PDANet) is proposed to extract well and robustly features. We first design a parallel data augmentation strategy based on random stripe erasure to enrich the diversity of input sample for better cover real scenes through various processing methods, and improve the generalization ability of the model by learning the relationship between these different samples. We then develop a Densely Connected Vision Transformer (DCViT) module for feature encoding, which strengthens the feature propagation and improves the effectiveness of learning by establishing connections between different layers. Experimental results demonstrate the proposed method outperforms the existing methods on both the occluded person and the holistic person ReID benchmarks.

The integrated management of marine and coastal areas is considered one of the main components of the concept of sustainable development, capable of increasing the well-being of coastal communities and maintaining ecological integrity and biological diversity. In particular, Chapter 17 of Agenda 21 (UN 1992) relating to the protection of the oceans, all types of seas including closed and semi-enclosed seas and coastal areas and the protection, rational use and valorisation of their living resources, directs towards new integrated management approaches of coastal areas at different scales, through interdisciplinary, participatory and responsible methods and tools. The marine environment, including adjacent coastal areas, therefore, constitutes an essential component of the global life support system, offering sustainable development opportunities for communities. This is contrasted by extensive technical and scientific literature, which contributes to forming the "right to the sea", understood as the right to freely enjoy the sea and the beaches according to the "common good" approach. Specifically, the Autonomous Region of Sardinia recognized the Coastal Land Use Plan (PUL) as the main implementation tool through which the Municipalities, within the framework of the powers conferred pursuant to Article 41 of the Regional Law. 9/2006 (Conferral of functions and tasks to local authorities) can plan in the Maritime State Property for tourist-recreational purposes. The present manuscript is inserted into this concise framework, with which it is intended to represent the integrated and systemic approach conducted by the authors for the drafting of the PUL of the Municipality of Villaputzu (Sardinia, Italy) between environmental protection, economic competition and national defense.

This paper focuses on the preliminary steps of developing safety-critical systems. We investigate how patterns could be used to generate Event-B refinements automatically. The patterns proposed in this paper either impose constraints on the model through weakest precondition calculus, superpose counters, or introduce de-synchronization mechanisms using observers. We show how the weakest precondition calculus integrated into the patterns can be simplified and become usable. Moreover, for our patterns to be fully usable in subsequent refinement steps, we produce as much as possible readable Event-B models. Finally, we revisit a classic case study using our proposed patterns.
