The aim of this paper is to explore the main sensory elements that can increase the immersion of future digital tools and the feeling of distancing between two people in different restaurants connected by videoconference. The research is based on the growing relevance of videoconferencing as a means of communication in a global context that seeks technological solutions for connectivity in times of social distancing. The proposal aims to integrate design elements inspired by immersive online video game experiences into virtual restaurant environments, in order to offer a better understanding of the perception of distance in interactions mediated by videoconferencing. By exploring how these immersive tools can be applied in virtual restaurant environments, the study aims to provide a socially enriching experience for participants, bringing the virtual sensation closer to reality and enhancing interaction in virtual environments. The research aims to identify and analyze visual and interactive elements that establish a specific sensory consonance with specific types of food, contributing to the advancement of knowledge about the interactions between technology, food and sensory experiences. It is hoped that the results of this study will provide valuable insights for the creation of digital environments that promote proximity and social interaction in contexts of physical distancing.

Intergenerational contact bridges the generation gap. It is a collaborative process where all generations generate ideas, share knowledge, and interactively improve skills, attitudes, and values, fostering equality, tolerance, and mutual respect. On the other hand, popular Portuguese toys have a historical and anthropological significance, preserving the local knowledge, traditions, and customs of the population, particularly those related to agricultural culture and nature. We created POPToys to promote intergenerational contact with popular Portuguese toys through virtual environments in this context. This application was developed using the human-centred design methodology: we conducted user research and created personas, context scenarios, functional, information, context, user, and experience requirements. Wireflows were developed to define the interaction, navigation, and information architecture. Finally, a high-fidelity prototype was designed, and the prototype's usability was evaluated through a moderated test. The tests were carried out with two groups of participants: five children aged between 6 and 10 and five older adults over 65 with an average level of digital literacy. We can identify some navigation errors, information architecture and visual design inconsistencies, and some aspects to improve the user experience;it also revealed that both children and older adults found the experience fun and exciting. We realise that this digital play intervention brought the children closer to the over-65s as technology-enabled intergenerational relationships.

Generative AI (GenAI) has the capability to revolutionize even modern processes and framework implementations. In 2021 we presented the Reasoning about Multiple Paths and Alternatives to Generate Effective Forecasts (RAMPAGE) process framework to support hypothesis generation for counterfactual forecasting and intelligence analysis [1]. This framework provided a structure to organize and order analysis methods to maximize the number and quality of hypotheses generated to improve forecasts. Different instantiations of GenAI could be used to improve the results of each stage in this framework. Adding GenAI to implementations of the RAMPAGE framework would greatly expand the number and quality of hypotheses than analysts can generate, which would lead to better forecasts. In this paper, we present examples of how GenAI tools could be used to enhance the RAMPAGE framework.

This paper reports a case study of adopting a Smart Site Safety System (SSSS) for maintaining relevant safety standards on construction sites. It explores various perspectives from developers and constructors, evaluates the implementation processes, identifies potential obstacles, and provides recommendations. A pilot project was installed on two existing construction sites affiliated with selected innovation and technology companies, providing several advantages, such as conducting thorough testing, leveraging existing business contacts, and reducing development costs. This strategic approach helps mitigate risks and associated needs. Moreover, the companies in the construction industry involved in the case study are actively engaged in progressive research efforts, including providing relevant training programs to enhance the skills of workers and ensuring proper role matching within the smart safe worksite systems. This proactive approach addresses the crucial need for capacity building and skill development within the industry, ensuring a smooth transition towards a safer and more sustainable work environment.

This study examines the effects of active participation versus directed observation in collaborative 3D virtual museums on collaboration, learning, and usability. Using a virtual reality setup, 11 engineering students from the Universidad de Chile interacted with digital replicas of Armenian khachkars. Participants either manipulated the objects directly or observed as one member manipulated them. The experiment assessed teamwork quality, usability, and learning outcomes through questionnaires. Results showed that directed observation led to higher teamwork quality and slightly better usability scores, suggesting it provided a more structured and predictable environment. Both modalities achieved high levels of detail attention and personal reflection in learning outcomes, though active participation encouraged slightly greater understanding and engagement. The findings underscore the potential of collaborative virtual 3D museums to enhance educational experiences, indicating that structured observation can facilitate teamwork and usability. Active participation may boost personal engagement with content. Further research with larger samples is needed to confirm these results and optimize collaborative activities in virtual settings.

We present a novel AAC application, HoloAAC, based on mixed reality that helps people with expressive language difficulties communicate in grocery shopping scenarios via a mixed reality device. A user, who has difficulty in speaking, can easily convey their intention by pressing a few buttons. Our application uses computer vision techniques to automatically detect grocery items, helping the user quickly locate the items of interest. In addition, our application uses natural language processing techniques to categorize the sentences to help the user quickly find the desired sentence. We evaluate our mixed reality-based application on AAC users and compare its efficacy with traditional AAC applications. HoloAAC contributed to the early exploration of context-aware AR-based AAC applications and provided insights for future research.

In order to understand student interpreters' use and awareness of AI-assisted interpreting technology, this study conducted a questionnaire survey on the use and perception of AI assisted interpreting technologies among student interpreters and the development of technology-related courses in interpretation teaching in universities. The survey results show that student interpreters are at a relatively basic stage in terms of technology use, and they have not yet formed a clear understanding of the relevant technology. There is still a lot of room for universities to educate interpreters with technology awareness and skills. Based on the findings, this paper further discusses how interpreters should establish a correct concept of technology to cope with the changes in the future interpretation industry under the impact of technology;and discusses the direction and possibilities of technology competence cultivation in interpretation teaching beside the key skills of interpretation in translation and interpretation programs.

Analyzing and predicting user information-sharing behavior on online social platforms is a crucial task in social sciences. While current prediction tasks primarily emphasize accuracy, they often neglect the underlying motivations that drive user behavior, hindering a fundamental understanding and control of the information spreading environment. To address this, we analyze and quantify potential factors that may drive user sharing behavior based on social theories. Our limited derived feature set achieves over 85% accuracy in predicting user behavior on two real-world datasets, demonstrating its effectiveness. Notably, through employing causal inference techniques, our analysis on true and false information spread reveals that users with lower authority are more susceptible to being misled by false information. In contrast, the propagation of truthful news is often driven by personal preference or influenced by users' social circles. By uncovering these underlying motivations, our approach facilitates a deeper comprehension of the online information ecosystem, contributing to more effective management strategies for false information mitigation.

Living well with dementia through delaying or preventing disability and enhancing quality of life has become a primary objective of public health policy across the world. This paper discusses a co-design approach applied to a projectwhich aims to develop a digital toolkit to support someone living with mild-to-moderate dementia, together with their informal carer(s), to live independently for longer in their own homes through planning and monitoring personalised care goals, engaging in daily andmeaningful activities, and encouraging and facilitating shared decision making. The paper will focus on the implementation of design recommendations arising out of the requirements gathering stage as well the codesign of the application involving both person living with dementia/informal carer dyads as well as health professionals.

Programming story problems requires an understanding of the requirements of the problem statement and how to write source code that satisfies them. However, some learners are unable to write source code that meets the requirements of the problem statement. Therefore, we modeled the problem-solving process in programming story problems. The problem-solving process begins by organizing the information in the context of the problem statement, thinking through the abstract operations necessary to find a solution, and defining the solution. In this study, we propose a learning support method and develop a learning support system that follows this problem-solving process.
