Changes in both physiological structure and psychological factors occur in older adults, leading to a decline in fine motor control and inferior performance compared to young adults during touchscreen interactions. It is crucial to understand the behavioral patterns of older adults' touchscreen clicks and subsequently optimize the touch active area size based on click position bias. An experimental prototype was developed using Android Studio, and 25 participants aged 65 and above (9 males, and 16 females) were recruited for touchscreen tasks. Several key findings emerged from the study. Firstly, older adults exhibited significant deviations when clicking targets near the left and right edges of the screen. The leftward deviation was predominantly downward, while the rightward deviation was upward. Secondly, to achieve an 80% accuracy rate for older users, recommended touch active area sizes were determined as follows: 2.3 cm for the left 25% of the screen, 1.1 cm for the central 50%, 1.7 cm for the right 25%, and 2.1 cm for the entire screen. These findings could contribute to enhancing the design of touch interfaces, providing reference parameters for touch active area sizes to achieve optimal click accuracy in different screen areas.

The development and application of digital technology have led to changes in the employment structure and working style of the labor market, and the lower the density of interpersonal skills in the occupation, the easier it is to be replaced by artificial intelligence. However, emerging technological competitiveness drives innovation in user-centered business models creating more jobs. As such, smart digital technology-driven social skills training for university students in campus scenarios via business model innovation is conducive to mitigating the employment impact by the development of artificial intelligence, striking a balance between the objectives of technological development and stable employment. However, the current research lacks the exploration of the influence mechanism of smart digital technology and business model innovation on user experience at the theoretical level, which is necessary to investigate the structural relationship among experience design, business model innovation, and smart digital technology. In addition, at the application level, there is a lack of evaluation and feedback on user experience in the field of social skills training, as well as product and platform assistance in the social skills training experience process. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate the mode mechanism of social skills training experience driven by smart digital technology and business model innovation and design a new experience of job-hunting social skills training in campus scenarios.

Multilingual communication among children is beneficial for cultivating an attitude that respects cultural diversity at an early age. Improvements in translation accuracy by neural machine translation can enhance children's mutual understanding. However, a significant challenge remains in involving children who speak low-resource languages (with limited language resources) in multilingual communication due to poor translation quality in those languages, resulting in a low number of utterances from the children. Meanwhile, facilitators play an important role in encouraging children's dialogue. Therefore, we have analyzed the facilitator's dialogue acts in a children's intercultural workshop to clarify which acts can promote their utterances. Specifically, we annotated all facilitator utterances with a dialogue act corresponding to each instance of children's language use in the actual multilingual dialogue log. Subsequently, we tallied the number of responses to each dialogue act. With this data, we compared the number of children's responses for each dialogue act across languages, analyzed the number of children's responses in each language for each dialogue act, and examined the patterns of change in dialogue acts for language pairs where translation was involved. The analysis finds that although no act has significant differences in the number of responses across different languages, the facilitator's utterance act changes caused by machine translation can result in a difference in the number of children's responses.

This study reviews the unresolved identifiable victim effect (IVE) issues. IVE indicates that people are more willing to help an identified victim than to an unidentified number of victims, such as statistical information. Previous studies have demonstrated the robustness of this phenomenon. However, existing studies on IVE have been conducted primarily in Western cultures and their applicability to East Asian cultures has not been sufficiently examined. Recently, some studies have begun to explore cultural differences in IVE and have suggested that IVE may be less likely to occur in East Asian cultures which exhibit a predominantly interdependent construal of self, compared to Western cultures which exhibit a predominantly independent construal of self. This is the first study to confirm the mechanism of IVE and the methods used to suppress it. Furthermore, studies on meta-analyses and cultural differences in IVE are reviewed, and prospects are discussed.

This study investigates how different content modalities, like images and text, contribute to mobilizing support and driving engagement in collective action campaigns that thrive on multimedia representation propelled by social media. Focusing on the 2022 Brazilian insurrection, it examines how escalating outrage and shifting sentiments manifested online during societal flashpoints. Grounding the analysis in Resource Mobilization Theory and Moral Foundations Theory, it explores how texts and images contributed to collective identity formation, understanding emotion and morality's role in mobilizing audiences. A socio-technical approach analyzed emotion and moral dimensions in Instagram posts by analyzing protest networks to identify influential agents. Findings demonstrated text and image captions playing crucial roles in collective identity formation and mobilization, with morally charged responses of rage and victimization driven by influential agents circulating reinforcing multimedia.

The current study examines the use of literacy game performance in assessing reading comprehension skill. The goals for this study were (1) to examine the extent to which game performance can be used to predict reading comprehension skill, as estimated by standardized tests;and (2) to explore the development of student profiles using game performance, and how these profiles relate to reading test performance. The results indicate that performance on two games-games that involved vocabulary knowledge and inferencing-accounted for approximately 45% of variance in reading comprehension skill. These results suggest that game-based learning activities can serve as formative assessments of reading skill. Teachers can use such learning activities to provide their students with more frequent feedback, and themselves with a greater understanding of their students' current skills and areas for improvement.

With advances in consumer-grade virtual reality (VR) devices, VR training gains unprecedented attention in research and industries. Although the nature of VR training encourages trainees to actively learn through exploring and gathering information in a simulated virtual environment, designing effective virtual training environments is non-trivial. We propose an adaptive approach that guides trainees to develop psychomotor skills in a simulated virtual environment. As a showcase, we demonstrate our novel approach for restaurant service using a game-based VR application. By incorporating the trainee's performance and learning progress into optimization objectives, our approach uses mixed integer programming (MIP) to generate VR training sessions iteratively. Through collecting the trainee's performance in VR training, our approach adapts the VR training sessions by considering the trainee's strengths and weaknesses, guiding the trainee to improve over training sessions. We validated our approach through two experimental studies. In the first study, we compared our approach with a random training task assignment approach and a performance-only MIP approach through performing simulated restaurant service training. In the second study, we compared our approach with the random assignment approach by evaluating trainees' skill developments in restaurant services. The results show that our skill-driven adaptive training approach outperforms the random assignment approach.

When implementing and adopting new technologies, knowing the level of organizational readiness is crucial. By assessing the readiness levels, organizations can focus on areas with low readiness levels and prepare for the change processes. Due to the increasing vulnerabilities presented by the advancement of quantum computing technology, today's widely used cryptographic algorithms and encryption methods need to be modified with quantum-safe (QS) ones. However, organizations currently lack tools to understand the complexity of implementing and adopting QS technology, and there is no readiness assessment model available in the context of QS transition. By including different dimensions that organizations should consider when implementing and adopting QS technology, we develop an organizational readiness assessment model for QS transition. The dimensions used in the model include collaboration, governance, policy & regulation, awareness, QS solution standards, hybrid QS solutions, cryptographic agility strategies and knowledge on QS transition. While the organizational readiness assessment model with different dimensions shows the complexity involved in implementing and adopting QS technology, it acts as a guidance tool for organizations to navigate and prepare for uncertainties surrounding QS transition.

Within the education sector, there is growing recognition of the importance of diverse data sets in aiding strategic decisions and supporting personalized learning. To date, this call for increased and more nuanced data has been translated into institutional use of data dashboards or learning analytics dashboards. While these dashboards have been extensively developed and adopted in higher education, there is limited research investigating the use of dashboards in K-12 education. To address this gap, this study presents a systematic literature review examining dashboards as a decision-making system in K-12 settings. Our analysis indicates significant underuse of data in these dashboards, with a concerning scarcity of implementations and evaluations in real-world classroom environments. To counteract these shortcomings, we propose a set of recommendations designed to enhance dashboard development by promoting the use of Learner Profiles (LPs). These guidelines aim to support educational outcomes and student success by informing the design and deployment of fine-grained dashboards alignedwith the specific needs of K-12 education. By highlighting the current gaps and offering forward-looking recommendations, our study clarifies the present landscape and serves as a foundation for future research, with significant implications for educators, policymakers, and scholars interested in using LPs to improve student learning outcomes.
