Using existing natural gas pipelines for hydrogen transportation has become a hot topic in the field of hydrogen energy and natural gas delivery. Currently, researches on the leakage and explosion of hydrogen-blended natural gas pipelines have primarily focused on enclosed spaces, with little exploration for long-distance pipelines. To investigate the laws governing leakage and explosion in hydrogen-blended natural gas pipelines, this study employs a mathematical model and PHAST calculations to a real-world example of a long-distance hydrogen-blended natural gas pipeline. The patterns of leakage and diffusion in the hydrogen-blended natural gas pipeline are examined under various operating pressures, hydrogen blending ratios, leak hole sizes, weather conditions, pipeline operating temperature and leak orientation. The results indicate that:. The leakage diffusion range is positively correlated with the operating pressure and leak hole size, while negatively related with the pipeline operating temperature. The diffusion area is also affected by the hydrogen blending ratio and leak orientation, in a positive or negative way depending on the values of the two factors.. The thermal radiation range is positively related with the operating pressure while negatively correlates with the hydrogen blending ratio and pipeline operating temperature. The findings of this research theoretically clarifies the leakage characteristics of hydrogen-blended natural gas pipelines, expected to provide important guidance for safe transportation and accident handling of hydrogen-blended natural gas.

In modern industrial production, non-conventional manufacturing processes are increasingly utilized alongside conventional methods for cutting materials, particularly in the case of sheet metal to obtain raw materials for further processing or finished parts for final assembly in products. Enhancing the quality of these processing systems ensures satisfactory accuracy and processing quality while maintaining high productivity and economy. Understanding the characteristics of individual manufacturing processes, including their capabilities and differences, facilitates manufacturing process planning by aiding decisions about optimal processes for specific conditions and when to employ them. The primary focus and objective of this research involve conducting a comparative techno-economic analysis of cutting steel sheets of C45 using laser, plasma, and flame cutting machines within the production conditions of a single production system. Input variables include the type of non-conventional cutting process/machining system, steel sheet thickness, and processing speed, while techno-economic analysis criteria encompass dimensional and geometric accuracy, material utilization, surface roughness, processing time, and cost.

The limited human performance in the logistics process creates a bottleneck that hinders a higher throughput and filling level in the field of loading and unloading single parcels. Furthermore, the physical work load leads to disorders of the workers. Various automation systems are available, but have not yet achieved significant market penetration. To develeop a solution for the process automation of loading and unloading single parcels, first the state of art is presented and classified into six process related categories to analyze the available systems. The classification shows that systems with a bulk handling approach deliver a high throughput but are lacking in terms of a high filling level. Group and single handling systems are suitable for certain applications but due to the complex industry environment, they do not offer an universally applicable optimization, limiting the exploitation of the entire optimization potential. The optimization approach of a universal solution in this field of application is not expedient. Alternatively, a flexible development approach is required to generate an optimal solution for each application.

Aging-related demand for rehabilitation and walking assistive devices has led to the proposal of a novel hip joint structure. This solution aims to improve current lower limb exoskeletons by eliminating the kinematic mismatch with the human's biological hip. The design utilizes three 1-DOF (Degree of Freedom) rotational joints to replicate natural hip movement. By incorporating IMU data, motor rotations are adjusted for a more natural gait. Experimental outcomes indicate enhanced hip joint angles and user comfort, offering a promising solution for better walking assistance in the elderly.

This paper presents a new method of solving the forward kinematic model (FKM) of a planar five-bar mechanism. First, the new feedback scheme is described, where the sensors are placed on the two passive joints of the Five-bar mechanism. Secondly, the kinematic model is established and the geometric parameters are optimized to fit a prescribed workspace. Finally, the new method of solving the forward kinematic model, based on the cosine law, is presented. A comparison is made between the classical approach and the new approach. Thereby, the advantages of the proposed FKM solving method are discussed.

Many factors influence the final geometry of 3D printed parts. These factors include model file export settings, slicer settings, material and printer quality, part geometry, cooling, etc. This paper is based on experimental determination of 3D printed part geometrical tolerances and the parameters which influence them. The research presented examines the dimensional tolerances, roundness and concentricity of 3D printed round holes used for bearing seats in order to determine the influence of the geometry on the fitment that can be achieved using nominal size values. Parts are printed on a commercially available 3D printer out of PET-G filament and then measured using an Absolute Arm-a 7-Axis to collect dimensional data. The experimental data is used to determine the necessary settings and nominal dimensions needed in the modelling, exporting and slicing phases in order to achieve a clearance or interference fit between a cylindrical part and a cylindrical hole made on an FDM 3D printer.

During ultra-deepwater shallow drilling, natural gas formed by the shallow gas and decomposing gas of hydrate can easily enter the wellbore to cause the secondary formation of hydrate, and in serious cases, the pipeline is blocked and the drilling safety is affected. In order to simulate the formation of secondary hydrate during drilling in formations containing shallow gas and hydrate, a three-phase flow model is established by considering the hydrate phase transition, solid particle migration and multiphase fluid heat transfer characteristics. The results show that the formation of hydrates in the wellbore largely depends on the injection drilling fluid temperature, displacement and inhibitor concentration. The higher the injection drilling fluid temperature and displacement, the lower the secondary hydrate formation risk. With the addition of thermodynamic inhibitors, the risk of secondary hydrate in wellbore is significantly reduced. When the injection temperature is higher than 20 degrees C and the displacement is greater than 1800 L/min, there is no secondary hydrate in the wellbore despite the absence of inhibitor. It is an effective way to reduce the risk of secondary hydrate in wellbore by optimizing the injection temperature, displacement and adjusting the inhibitor concentration.

This study introduces an advanced non-destructive inspection (NDI) technique employing Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) to identify early-stage damage in welds located within orthotropic steel bridge decks. Orthotropic steel bridge decks, renowned for their lightweight and resilient characteristics, are extensively employed in contemporary bridge construction endeavors. Nonetheless, ensuring their structural soundness and detecting flaws holds paramount importance in guaranteeing safety and durability. The initial phases of crack propagation pose challenges for detection through conventional visual inspection methods due to the minute scale of crack dimensions. Nevertheless, adopting preemptive measures during these nascent stages of crack propagation is imperative for reinforcing maintenance protocols and bolstering structural safety measures. A PAUT protocol tailored to the specific characteristics of steel bridge structures is developed through a comprehensive analysis of current non-destructive testing methodologies. Experimental investigations using a specimen validate PAUT's efficacy in detecting cracks in various weld types, including those between U-ribs and deck plates, U-shaped splice plates and deck plates, and floor beams and deck plates. The results demonstrate PAUT's ability to identify early damage within steel structures and welds that are not visible to the naked eye, accurately locate defects, determine their size, and identify the direction of crack propagation. The innovative application of PAUT on orthotropic steel bridge decks reflects the maturation and advancement of this technology, offering an effective non-destructive approach for early detection of cracking damage. Prompt identification of potential issues facilitates timely maintenance and reinforcement efforts, ultimately minimizing the risk of human and economic losses.

The double-wall impingement/effusion cooling structure represents a novel and efficient design scheme for turbine blades of engine. For turbine rotor double-wall blades, rotation alters flow and heat transfer characteristics, leading to localized high-temperature zones on the suction side of blade when cooling air is limited and film coverage is insufficient. However, there is a scarcity of existing research concerning typical double-wall cooling structures at high rotational speeds. Therefore, this research investigates the influence of the arrangement of the 1-0-1 cooling structure on the film cooling effectiveness of double-wall blade suction sides at the high rotational speeds (5000-15000 rpm). The heat transfer and flow characteristics of twelve different cooling structures, with four different 1-0-1 cooling structures arranged in each of the three areas along the flow direction of the suction side, were studied by simulation of fluid-solid conjugate heat transfer. Results show that the rotational speed exerts a more pronounced impact on the film cooling effectiveness near the leading edge of the suction side compared to other regions on the same side. At rotational speeds of 5000-15000 rpm, apart from the high-radius region (over 50% of the blade height) near the leading edge at 5000 rpm, arranging the film holes upstream of the impingement holes reduces consumption of cooling air and improves film cooling effectiveness, due to the interaction influence of the rotation with the fluid pressure distribution, yielding an increase in film cooling effectiveness of up to 20.3%.

The design of unmanned surface vehicle (USV) is a complex system engineering involving multiple design contents. It is necessary to maximize the comprehensive navigation capabilities of USV while meeting the design and performance requirements. In this regard, this study conducts multi-objective optimization of the hydrodynamic performance (rapidity, seakeeping, overturning resistance, and maneuverability) of a catamaran USV. Aiming at the shortcomings of ordinary particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm, such as easy to fall into local optimum, low convergence precision and slow convergence speed, this study proposes an improved PSO algorithm based on a hybrid strategy. After introducing the black widow optimization (BWO) movement strategy balance algorithm into the particle velocity update method, the local search and global search capabilities are improved. Then the BWO hybrid PSO algorithm is simplified by removing the particle velocity term of the particle swarm hybrid black widow evolution equation, so that the original second-order differential equation is simplified into a first-order differential equation. The evolution process is only controlled by the improved particle position, which avoids the problems of slow convergence and low accuracy in the later period due to particle divergence caused by the particle velocity term. Through comparative analysis of the algorithm optimization results and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation verification, the results show that the simplified BWO hybrid PSO algorithm has better results in multi-objective optimization of the hydrodynamic performance of the catamaran USV.
