The article describes a three-axis single-purpose machine assembled on the basis of the customer's requirements for adjusting the facet of forming punches of different diameters, which are part of presses for the production of aluminum can blanks. The machine is built and developed from the BRV platform [4], as well as the control system, together with the programming environment, including the drive platform, were chosen due to experience and positive feedback. The machine was supplemented, among other things, with a unique program and a graphical user interface due to the required operation of the machine. The main requirements were to adjust the facet so that it was concentric with the main diameter of the cylindrical body of the forming punch, and that it was as circular as possible. Because the non-concentricity and non-circularity of the unprocessed punches then results in an uneven distribution of aluminum on the walls of the semi-finished product. Furthermore, it was necessary to ensure sufficient roughness of the machined surface. The required accuracy was set to hundredths of mm. The assembled machine has already been successfully implemented by the customer in the maintenance and modification processes of forming presses.

Tar-rich coal has been an attractive resource in recent years. Underground radiofrequency (RF) heating, a potential technique, could develop tar-rich coal resources in an eco-friendly way. Temperature evolution and distribution are critical to coal exploration. This study proposes a numerical model to investigate the thermal performance of tar-rich coal during RF heating. The finite element method solves coupling equations between electromagnetic (EM) wave propagation and heat transfer. The consistency of the numerical simulation with the experimental test demonstrates the proposed model. Numerical results show that the heat concentrates near the vicinity of the RF antenna due to the attenuation of EM waves and the low thermal conductivity of coal. A field-scale simulation shows that the effective heating range of coal would reach 2.5 m using a 20 kW and 915 MHz wave source after 200 d. Parametric studies indicate that the effective heating zone enlarges with the wave frequency. As the frequency increases, the effective heating range extension becomes indistinctive.

This paper proposes a novel concept of an S-shaped tube-bar structure aimed at effectively propagating long-term stress waves. The structure is composed of several circular ring-shaped tubes, which are identical cross-sectional area with the transmitted used in Hopkinson bar. They are interconnected successively in an S-shaped pattern at both ends through flanges, and used as the transmitted bar of traditional Hopkinson bar apparatus to guide a long-term transmitted stress wave. Its flanges are elaborately designed to achieve nearly total transmission, which are optimized and confirmed via series of numerical simulation. Based on the finite element model of Hopkinson bar loading, a long-term stress wave propagation is achieved through S-shaped structure, which is even up to ten milliseconds. This invented structure is introduced to perform a high frequency impact fatigue loading with aid of the previous work concerning long incident stress wave loading, and the tensile impact fatigue loading of metal materials at the order of 103 Hz was realized by this equipment. Additionally, this structure could be used to other dynamic loading equipment, such as intermediate strain rate experiments and high overload techniques, due to its high capacity for propagating long-term and limited size and length. More extensive investigation will further contribute to the advancement of Hopkinson bar experimental techniques.

The main aim of the work is to determine the impact of regeneration of metal elements using epoxies that have been subjected to the bonding process and to determine the strength of the adhesive joints containing regenerated elements. The subject of the research was single-lap adhesive joints of sheet metal in various variants: solid sheets and sheets with a hole, which were subjected to a regeneration process by filling the defect with epoxy mass. Two types of the epoxy adhesive prepared on the basis of bisphenol A-based epoxy resin (Epidian 53) and two types of curing agent: polyamide and amine in appropriate proportions were used to make the adhesive joints and regenerate the joined elements. In order to determine the adhesive joints strength, experimental tests were carried out according to EN DIN 1465 standard. The joints made using the adhesive contains Epidian 53 epoxy resin with PAC curing agent with two regenerated holes were characterized by the highest strength. The lowest strength was observed in the case of adhesive joints made using E53/Z-1 epoxy adhesive. When E53/Z-1 was used to make adhesive joints, there was no effect of the regeneration holes on the strength of the adhesive joints. Taking into account the influence of the type of the adhesive on the strength of the adhesive joints made of C45 steel, it is concluded that better results were obtained when using E53/Z-1 epoxy adhesive.

The working elements of combustion engines are the most common locations where impact-sliding wear issues begin to manifest. The impact-slide test technique makes it possible to investigate the effects of sliding contacts as well as cyclic impacts throughout the testing process. This research examined the impact-sliding wear test on unalloyed EN-GJS-500-7 quality pearlitic/ferritic ductile iron, as well as EN-GJS-500-7 quality pearlitic ductile iron alloyed with 0.8% Mn and 0.8% Cu by weight. The impact-sliding wear loss of the unalloyed EN-GJS-500-7 quality pearlitic/ferritic ductile iron was comparatively greater than that of the EN-GJS-500-7 quality pearlitic ductile iron alloyed with 0.8% Mn and 0.8% Cu by weight at room temperature, as determined by microstructural analysis and impact-sliding wear tests.

In the fluid transmission control system, the control valve is used to control the movement and speed of the actuator by manipulating the flow direction, pressure and flow rate of the fluid. The spool valve utilises the relative movement of the spool and the valve body to turn on and off the oil circuit, or change the direction of the fluid flow. The actuator can then be started, stopped or reversed. In this work, the control characteristics of the pressure flow were investigated based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD). By simulating the three-dimensional flow field, the pressure-flow characteristics were analysed at different valve port openings. The design of the valve was optimized to avoid the cavitation phenomenon at the valve port. This work provides a theoretical basis for the research, development and optimization of multi-way valves and the performance improvement of hydraulic systems.

The vortex-induced vibration (VIV) phenomenon of crossed cylinders at high Reynolds numbers is investigated through numerical simulation, focusing on its application in energy capture. The accuracy of the established numerical model is first validated by comparing it with experimental data from existing literature. Subsequently, the VIV of the crossed cylinder is simulated and compared with that of a standard cylinder. It is observed that the vibration frequency of the crossed cylinder consistently remains lower than that of the standard cylinder across all flow velocities. Additionally, the presence of the vertical cylinder results in a decrease in vortex intensity for the cross cylinder at low and medium flow rates, leading to reduced amplitude at low flow rates and an increase in the starting flow rate. In the middle velocity range, there is an increase in amplitude due to changes in vortex shedding position. At high velocity ranges, there are no significant changes in vortex intensity or shedding position, with amplitudes similar to those of a standard cylinder. Finally, the study investigated the vortex vibration response of a crossed cylinder under varying mass ratios and spring stiffnesses, elucidating the significant influence of both parameters on the lock-in range and amplitude.

Iron-based shape memory alloy (Fe-SMA) is an emerging seismic energy dissipation material that has attracted considerable attention in the engineering field due to its superior low-cycle fatigue resistance property. Fe-SMA shows unique mechanical behavior at room temperature compared with conventional steel. Besides, according to reported test results, the classical J2 flow theory, which forms the basis of modern plastic theory, fails to consider microscopic deformation mechanisms of Fe-SMA, neither it can appropriately describe the macroscopic phenomenological behavior of the material. In this study, a constitutive model that couples irreversible dislocations slip plastic strain and reversible transformation-induced plastic strain is proposed, and the corresponding numerical algorithm is developed. The proposed one-dimensional constitutive model demonstrates satisfactory accuracy in describing the cyclic behavior of Fe-SMA under different strain range.

The transmission tower-line system exhibits characteristics of high elevation and long spans, leading to fragility under strong wind. This study aims to investigate a case of tower collapse hit by typhoon Doksuri, in 2023. Considering the buckling and damage of angle steels, a nonlinear constitutive model was employed to simulate tower collapse. Collapse wind speed was determined as 35.8 m/s, based on the simulated result and the measured wind speed. The damage of elements and segments was investigated to identify the weak position of the tower. The results indicated that the buckling of diagonal elements caused the collapse. Segments with sudden changes in stiffness were identified as weak positions. Through sensitivity analysis, the influence of uncertainty parameters was studied. Displacement is significantly influenced by uncertainties in elastic modulus and yield strength. The proposed multi-line constitutive model effectively simulates the collapse progression and critical wind speed of transmission towers, offering valuable design references.

The process of welding is a crucial industrial production method that establishes a permanent connection between components and is widely utilized across various sectors. However, welding operations are susceptible to factors such as setting adjustments, environmental conditions, and operator compliance with standards, leading to the occurrence of defects such as cracks, incomplete fusion, and pores which significantly compromise production safety. The conventional manual inspection method lacks efficiency and standardization. Advancements in machine vision research provide effective solutions to these challenges. Currently, advancements in ultrasonic technology and C- scan imaging indicate unique advantages for detecting welding defects through ultrasonic imaging. This paper utilizes the YOLOv7 network model as the foundational framework to establish a machine vision-based welding defect feature detection model in C-scan images. By adjusting the model and incorporating an SE attention mechanism module, the localization and identification of welding defects have been enhanced with an accuracy exceeding 90% and a recall value reaching approximately 0.03. This indicates that our model holds practical reference value for welding defect detection.
