The rise of electric vehicles (EVs) has become a cornerstone of sustainable mobility in modern society. The foundation of this revolutionary change is mechanical design and simulation, which play a key role in optimising the performance and increasing the sustainability of EVs. As part of this effort, a simulation was conducted to investigate the potential effects of replacing an internal combustion engine-based powertrain with an electric one on the fundamental parameters of the vehicle. Within this framework, aspects such as estimated range and vehicle acceleration, among others, could be examined. The simulation helps to determine the ideal parameters of the powertrain during the design process before the prototype is implemented. This article examines the possibilities of electrifying a passenger vehicle with a conventional drive train using simulation. In the research, the transformation was carried out using two different methods, and then the two methods (Matlab Simulink Simscape and Matlab Simulink) were compared.

The ability to make timely and sound decisions is one of the key activities of managing an organisation. Organisations try to reduce production costs as much as possible, but this in turn brings the downside of products that do not meet customer expectations. However, this phenomenon also has other downstream processes that burden the organisation and make it more difficult to continue to function. These include customer complaints, the cost of rectifying the defects complained of, downtime, etc. The successful operation of any organisation therefore depends on its ability to adapt to changing customer requirements, as these are a priority in the market. Statistical methods and tools are an effective tool for quality improvement and it is not only advisable, but we can say essential, to introduce them into production processes. Without systematic quality management, an organisation is not able to grow, because it has to combine the enormous effort of developing and introducing new products with the maximum maintenance of the quality of the products already in place. The aim of this paper is to highlight selected tools and methods for process improvement in an organization operating in the automotive industry. The subject of observation is the process of tightening airbag joints. Using Pareto analysis, both bolt and nut tightening data was collected during 3 work shifts over a period of one month. One of the statistical tools and methods used in organizations are sophisticated methods - it includes operational research methods, multivariate analysis, etc. Statistical process control is essentially the maintenance of a process in a steady state. Based on the result, a conclusion is then drawn as to whether corrective action is to be taken to improve/remove the undesirable condition or, in the case of favourable results, to continue with the next production process.

In order to simultaneously describe the elasto-plastic and damage behaviors of rock-like materials under various pressure conditions, a 2D and 3D nonlocal hybrid elasto-plastic model based on Hoek-Brown criterion and generalized Zhang-Zhu (GZZ) criterion is proposed in this paper. The proposed model couples the nonlocal differential operator method (NDO) and the non-ordinary state-based peri-dynamics (NOSBPD) method to eliminate the surface effect arising from the incomplete integral region near the boundary. Additionally, this coupling simplifies the imposition of boundary conditions. A plastic constitutive model with the well-known Hoek-Brown criterion or GZZ criterion is integrated within this framework to accurately capture the nonlinear behavior of rock-like materials. Note, that the effect of intermediate principal stress on elastic-plastic fracture behavior is considered in the 3D model. The segmented flow rule is used for different pressure conditions. Strain-softening and fracture criteria, utilizing the equivalent plastic strain, effectively capture the elasto-plastic response and damage-fracture process in rock materials. The dynamic relaxation method and return mapping method are used for numerical calculations. Numerical examples contain the triaxial compression tests and compression tests of rock specimens with pre-existing flaws. Based on numerical examples, it has been effectively demonstrated that the model proposed in this paper can simulate the progressive failure process of rock-like materials from elastic-plastic deformation to strain softening and fracture.

Debris flow are a common geological disaster in mountainous areas. Researching the accumulation and energy characteristics of debris flow is of great importance for the defense planning of potential danger areas and advancing major engineering projects in disaster-prone regions. Currently, there is a lack of systematic study on the energy changes during the occurrence of debris flow disasters and the accumulation process after the failure of resistance structures. Based on the disasterprone areas of Tibet, this study selects samples that match the real environment to conduct landslide experiment. At a macro level, it investigates the accumulation characteristics of debris flow after the destruction of retaining walls. It was found that the final slope angle of the slope body after the destruction of the wall did not reach the internal friction angle of the particles, and many particles within the slope body did not move. Additionally, a particle energy simulation was performed. At the mesoscopic level, the study examined the energy changes in debris flow particles, finding that as the slope angle increased, the energy consumption of the particles tended more towards friction energy dissipation rather than collision energy dissipation. In simulations of low slopes, the friction energy dissipation of multiple particles did not account for a small fraction like in single-particle simulations but maintained a significant proportion. In terms of three-dimensional simulation, a method to create real three-dimensional topographic maps was proposed, and the debris flow disaster process was divided into three stages, with detailed explanations given for the energy changes in each stage. The study provides a comprehensive interpretation by correlating the macroscopic flowing characteristics of debris flow with the microscopic energy changes.

Shaped charge is amajor underwater weapon. Its underwater explosion (UNDEX) causes severe damage to underwater structures, such as submarines. It is significant to investigate damage model of typical steel structure underwater by shaped charge. In this paper, the coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) method was used based on theory related to UNDEX. Numerical model of curved double-hull steel structure under the effect of shaped charge UNDEX was established. Spatial and temporal evolution of shock wave-projectile-bubble load generated by shaped charge UNDEX was investigated. On the basis of above, damage modes of typical steel structures under the combined shock wave-projectile-bubble load were discussed. Deformation of double-hull structure under different damage elements was compared. Deflections and effective plastic strains at typical points on the structure were analyzed. The results show that shock wave-projectile load cause partial shear breach and small plastic deformation on the structure. The bubble load causes large plastic deformation. Compared with shock wave-projectile load, bubble load produces a 631% increase in deflection for the outer hull, while the inner hull has a 586% increase. Bubble load in shrinkage phase only causes plastic strain on the outer hull.

The load-carrying capacity of shafts is an important feature in the design and performance of machinery. This paper presents a comprehensive study aimed at understanding and quantifying the influence of geometry factors, including shaft diameter and the position of load between shaft supports, on the shaft's load-carrying capacity. The load-carrying capacity criterion is the fatigue safety factor. This paper offers a systematic exploration of the influential geometry factors affecting shaft load-carrying capacity, individually and in combination. The paper concludes by considering the simultaneous influence of all the aforementioned factors. A new factor is introduced, representing the effect of geometry parameters. This factor allows for a holistic approach to shaft design, enabling engineers to make informed decisions that maximize load-carrying capacity with the changing geometry of shafts.

The paper presents a novel mobile robot for Precision Agriculture in protected cultivation, named AGRIMARO.Q (AGRIcultural MAte RObot) mainly characterized by a pseudo-omnidirectional mobility by means of three swerve drive units and an adjustable track. After presenting the robot design mainly in terms of track adjustment mechanism and wheel swerve drive sub-systems, the paper focuses on the kinematic model of the robot along with final considerations about its mobility in application cases.

In 3D printing, components are created incrementally along the normal direction through the sequential deposition of material. This methodology streamlines the manufacturing process and kinematics of 3D printers. However, due to the staircase effect, the conventional printing process has drawbacks such as additional material for supporting structures, more processing time, poor structural strength, and surface finish. Multi-axis 3D printing is the solution to overcome the stated problems. Nevertheless, a fully developed slicer is inaccessible. This paper describes the development of a slicer and toolpath for different printing strategies like 2.5D, 3D, 5D, and demonstrates its surface finish and structural strength. The HAGE1750L 5-axis machine is used to demonstrate the proposed methodology. The machine has three prismatic joints followed by tilting and rotating print bed. Initially, inverse kinematic equations of the machine are calculated, which will help give the joint parameters to the motors. The conformal slicer and toolpath are developed using the Rhino and Grasshopper software. Users can import or create the model into the Rhino, and slicer automatically creates the toolpath and G-code in Grasshopper for printing. The slicer generates isocurves of the geometry and divides the layers into points. It spiralizes the layers for continuous printing and calculates the flow rate of the extrusion material using the height of the nonlinear planes. It facilitates various parameters such as nozzle size, layer height, and thickness. Three tubes are designed, and compression test is conducted to validate the proposed methodology. Together, the system delivers the design of the geometries, simulates the toolpath, generates the G-code, and prints models.

The article presents research on the optimal granulation of plant biomass for uniform drying in vibrating fluidized bed dryers. The biomass self-feeding vibrating bed dryer solution uses warm air or from the atmosphere and allows adjustments of the vibration frequency, amplitude and tilting angle of the vibrating tray necessary to adjust the transit time of the biomass through the dryer, consequently of the degree of biomass drying at the output of the dryer. Numerical simulation was performed with a proprietary 2D multibody dynamics software developed in the institute, which only analyzes the mechanical aspects of the dryer, the interaction between the biomass fragments and between them and the vibrating tray of the dryer. The numerical simulation results will be presented in two cases, in the first case (C#1) the industrial vibrator rotates in the direction of movement of biomass fragments and in the second case (C#2) in the reverse direction of the movement of biomass fragments, for eight types of fragments.
