On December 18, 2023, Ms6.2 Jishishan earthquake occurred in Gansu Province, China. In order to explore the cause of the earthquake damage, oil leakage occurred in the transformer casing of a 750 kV substation. The refined finite element simulation models of two kinds of transformer-casing systems were established, and the seismic response analysis was carried out. The results show that for the transformer-casing system, due to the significant difference in stiffness between the transition flange and the upper and lower part of the connection, the stiffness of the connection is weak, and the difference in corner displacement is too large, the bolts are deformed, and the sealing rubber gasket loses its sealing property and leaks oil. Compared with the glue-mounted connection casing, the buckle connection casing is weaker. Although it is conducive to dissipating energy to avoid structural damage, the displacement response is more significant. The design of the transition flange should consider the influence of the transformer riser and the stiffness of the sleeve.

The two-scale structure has the advantage of high specific strength, and optimizing the two-scale structure can greatly improve its performance. We propose an efficient M-VCUT (Multiple Variable Cutting) level set method to solve the topology optimization problem of the two-scale structures. The work is mainly divided into offline stage and online stage. In the offline stage, the geometric model of the microstructure was first established using the M-VCUT level set method;Then, the equivalent elastic modulus and density parameters of the microstructure were obtained using the homogenization method, and obtain the mechanical model of the microstructure. Then, the obtained parameters were stored and used as an offline database. During the online stage, the MQ-RBF (Multiquadric Radial Basis Function) interpolation technology is used to interpolation mapping model and using the mapping model for two-scale FEA (finite element analysis) and sensitivity analysis. This efficient method can solve the disadvantage of repeatedly calculating all finite elements in full-scale analysis and can greatly shorten the calculation time.

The transport sector, especially road transport, has a very negative impact on air pollution. This impact is most pronounced in densely populated urban areas, so efforts should be made to minimise the negative environmental impact of the transport sector. Replacing conventional vehicles with cleaner modes of transport is one way of reducing pollution. From an environmental point of view, the use of battery electric vehicles is the most acceptable, as they produce zero emissions during operation. However, for vehicle owners, the financial investment during the purchase and use of the vehicle is very important. This is particularly true for hauliers who own a large number of vehicles. The total cost of ownership (TCO) of these vehicles plays an important role in their choice. This paper gives an overview of the methods used to estimate TCO. It also presents the results obtained by different researchers when calculating TCO values for urban buses with different powertrain types.

In the work, the aerodynamic characteristics of the Darrieus wind turbine with hollow blades were obtained by numerical CFD modeling and compared with the aerodynamic characteristics of the Darrieus wind turbine with solid blades. The H-rotor with hollow blades cannot be used at rotational speeds smaller than the nominal one, because of the non-linearity of the frequency characteristic of the torque (curve with two maxima and two minima).

In this paper are presented the benefits of introducing a new original multidisciplinary methodology that integrates in a global homogeneous process the benefits of the state of the art of product development techniques, mechanical finite element analysis and collaborative teamwork strategies. For exposing this interdisciplinary and Holistic Product Development approach, a case study is presented, focusing on a re-design project of a pneumatic rack and pinion actuator for valve actuation, first time designed in 1984. During the project, developed focusing on teamwork activities, the benefits of an extensive use of simulation techniques have been exploited, for implementing the best design change proposals emerged thanks to the application of a Design-to-Value (DtV) process. Final objectives are to optimize the product weight and efficiency of the actuator, while maintaining high safety, reliability, and performances, and at the same time to simplify the design, with a reduction of components construction complexity. In a First step of the application of the methodology, the procedures and tools foreseen by the DtV process for fostering improvement ideas generation are applied. In a second phase, design techniques based on FEA ("Design by Analysis") are going to integrate the classical verifications of "Design by Formulas", used in the occasion of the first actuator design, obtaining a much higher level of accuracy confirmed by experimental validation phase. This new value-oriented design strategy, implemented with a sort of "secret ingredient" given by collaborative teamwork, allowed to obtain tangible benefits and introduce a totally renewed more efficient actuator.

The aim of this work is to introduce the kinematics of one possible implementation of the Tripteron robot. The variant discussed here is referred to as the 'single rail' Tripteron, given that the three axes of the actuated prismatic joints are coincident. This configuration allows to shape, by design, the Jacobian matrix, allowing to tune along the Cartesian directions the speed and force generation capabilities by setting the three relevant angles to the kinematic design. The possibility of providing the actuation along a single line also allows to provide it by means of a Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor (PMLSM) with three shuttles. A prototype of the manipulator has been developed to test the feasibility of the design.

This paper presents aspects of motion simulation and dynamic analysis of an exoskeleton for assisting the gait of people with disabilities when using access stairs. The design of the exoskeleton is carried out in the computer design environment SolidWorks. The dynamic simulation is carried out in conditions as close to reality as possible, taking into account the friction in the kinematic couplings of the robot exoskeleton. The results of the dynamic simulation in the case of stair walking validate the engineering feasibility of the proposed solution and the next stage of development is the construction of a physical prototype of the exoskeleton. For this purpose, we have used additive manufacturing technology. The physically realized robot is tested for the situation of its use by a human subject when walking on stairs.

The characterization of viscoelastic materials, important for mechanical, aerospace, biomedical, and many other fields of application, poses an arduous challenge due to the great variability of their properties with both temperature and frequency. This characterization is generally performed with mechanical and destructive tests, including the Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA). However, in recent times, non-invasive techniques have emerged as promising alternatives, such as the Viscoelasticity Evaluation System Evolve (VESevo) device. This work focuses on experimental investigation employing different configurations of the VESevo device to perform the characterization of polymeric material at different frequencies over a large range of temperatures. The feasibility of this approach is also supported by a prior simulation study in which the prototyping and testing of the different elements were carried out. The task of this study is to prove the possibility of generating, with the VESevo device, curves of viscoelastic material properties as a function of temperature at different testing frequencies, which are sufficiently detached to establish a shift law and to derive a complete temperature-frequency relationship. Contrary to simulations, the experimental implementation revealed no clear distinction between the curves allowing the construction of an extended master curve. However, the methodology is promising and with a more detailed analysis and a potential experimental apparatus improvement, the desired results seem achievable. If these objectives can be attained in this efficient non-destructive way, it would represent a major advancement in polymer characterization, reducing costs and characterization times, with a wide range of possible applications.

The efficiency of agricultural activities is significantly influenced by the condition of the power and work machinery used in agricultural production. Creating and maintaining the proper soil conditions play a crucial role in achieving the desired crop yield. Soil cultivation tools are subjected to substantial stress during agricultural operations, which can lead to significant wear and tear. Therefore, it is essential to research technologies that can improve the durability of surfaces in contact with the soil. Our goal was to replace worn-out cultivator tines with longer-lasting plowshares. During our research, we developed and applied various heat treatment procedures and conducted hot metal spraying on the plowshares. Some of the plowshares were re-melted using flame, while others were re-melted using lasers. The workpieces we produced will be used in agricultural production in the future, allowing us to determine which heat treatment or surface treatment technology is most suitable. Since a cultivator is equipped with multiple cultivator tines, using plowshares made with the right surface treatment technology can significantly reduce costs and enhance the cultivation of larger areas. Based on the examinations conducted so far, it is foreseeable that the application of nickel alloy metal powders and subsequent re-melting shows promising results.

Water production of tight gas wells in LX block markedly hinders optimal gas extraction, compelling the urgent development of efficacious water control system. Current strategies include drainage gas production, mechanical water blocking, and chemical water blocking. Drainage gas extraction is suitable for gas wells with small water production. Mechanical water blocking is chiefly tailored for wells with well-definedwater-producing layers. Chemical water blocking employs selective agents, such as polymers, microemulsions, and fuzzy-balls, to selectively control high-permeability layers and unlock the production potential latent within low-permeability reservoirs. Laboratory experiments evaluated the performance and injection volumes of the fuzzy-ball plugging system (FBPS), leading to three formulations for varied blocking strengths and the implementation of breakthrough pressure gradients (BPG) to assess control effect. The observed surge in water flow resistance (71.77%-78.92%) far exceeds gas resistance (13.34%-20.22%), maintaining stable gas and water control in tight gas wells. Fuzzy-balls degrade with a small percentage of ammonium persulfate, still offering water control properties. Field application of FBPS in wells LX-35 and LX D-1-1D significantly improved gas production and reduced water output. The FBPS's adaptability for blocking in varied reservoir conditions, with potential for wide application due to its distinctive rheological properties and capability for selective, deep injection, positioning it as an effective solution for tight gas water control.
