Titanium alloys are considered advanced and high-value materials due to their special properties and high production cost. Titanium alloys are often used in the aerospace, automotive and medical industries, due to their high strength/weight ratio, corrosion resistance, biocompatibility and low thermal expansion characteristics. In addition to structural efficiency, titanium alloys are characterized by high corrosion resistance and do not cause chemical or immunological reactions in the human body. The production of titanium is very expensive, so it is important to research technologies that require lower costs. One of these is the HDH process, which is used for the cheaper production of powder from waste material of titanium alloys. This paper presents the quality of the powder obtained by recycling a piece of TiAl6Nb7 titanium alloy, which can then be used as a raw material for 3D metal printing, which is recent and not yet commonly used.

The Chang 8 sandstone reservoir in the Pingliang North area of Changqing Oilfield presents challenges in oil utilization due to its heterogeneity and intricate oil-water relationships. Following fracturing production using the guar system, some wells exhibit minimal oil flow or even only water production. To investigate the root causes, rock cores, oil, and water samples are analyzed to understand their properties. Cores from oil-producing and water-producing wells are compared to simulate wettability under original sedimentary and reservoir conditions through oil and salt-washing treatments. Wettability assessments, including wetting angle and saturation imbibition methods, are conducted, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis reveals fluid distribution in the cores pre and post-treatment. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) are used to examine substances extracted during washing. The study uncovers the reservoir's complex wettability, showing mixed wet characteristics after imbibition. NMR data indicates fluid preference in different pore sizes. Wettability shifts post-treatment, possibly influenced by clay and iron mineral content. Increased core permeability post-washing suggests adsorbed substances. Analysis of washed substances identifies organic wax and inorganic salts impacting wettability by enhancing water or oil affinity. Organic matter and inorganic salts are highlighted as crucial factors affecting wettability, emphasizing the need for potent cleaning agents to restore the reservoir's original state and improve oil recovery from tight sandstone reservoirs.

Downhole self-excited torsional resonance will lead to premature failure of drilling tools and seriously affect drilling efficiency. To clarify the main characteristics of drill string torsional vibration and formulate reasonable and reliable vibration reduction strategies, this study analyzes engineering parameter data collected by the new near-bit measuring tool in time domain, frequency domain and time-frequency domain, it is found that: When high-frequency torsional vibration (HFTO) occurs, the amplitude of tangential acceleration will increase, time domain analysis shows that tangential acceleration changes most sharply, the root mean square value and variance are also high, indicating that tangential acceleration can better reflect the characteristics of HFTO. Frequency domain analysis shows that the main frequency is greater than 50 Hz in tangential acceleration, and the main frequency shift phenomenon is observed, which is related to the change of WOB. When HFTO and stick-slip are coupled, the rotational speed and tangential acceleration increase substantially in the slip phase and decrease rapidly in the stick-slip phase. Time-frequency domain analysis shows that there will be a mixture of two frequencies in radial acceleration, the vibration characteristics are more complicated. In addition, when stick-slip is superimposed on HFTO, which can lead to an amplification or reduction of HFTO loads, and different strategies are needed to minimize the loads related to HFTO and stick-slip. The research results can visually observe the characteristic differences of HFTO, stick-slip and their coupling vibration, which has an important guiding role in identifying HFTO and proposing mitigation strategies in subsequent drilling, thus ensuring the efficiency and safety of drilling operations.

The connecting rod is one of the most important parts of the engine but suffers the risk of fatigue due to the alternating loads, especially at the small end where the stress is locally concentrated by its contact with the piston pin. In this study, a finite element model is established for the connecting rod in contact with the piston pin subject to combustion force that is experimentally obtained. The motion pattern of the connecting rod is equivalently modified to save the calculation cost, and the elastic-plastic behavior of its material is considered according to the nonlinear isotropic/kinematic hardening law. The damage-coupled elastic field can be conveniently obtained by the contact model developed in the finite element tool;nevertheless, the plastic stress/strain should be iteratively determined based on the plastic flow criterion. The damage evolution of the connecting rod is modeled by continuum damage mechanics, and it is induced by both the elastic and plastic components, which are determined by cyclic stress and accumulated plastic strain, respectively. The constitutive relations of the material for the damaged elements are updated at each analysis step by the user-defined material (UMAT) subroutine to consider the reduction of Young's moduli caused by damage and the effect of plastic deformation. It can be concluded that the damage accumulates gradually on the small end and significantly weakens the material's mechanical properties, leading to the decrease and redistribution of concentrated stress and plastic evolution, which in return accelerates the failure process of the connecting rod. The model considers the interactions of plastic zones and damaged areas and can potentially provide insights into the contact fatigue and damage evolution of engine connecting rods.

Laboratories that provide metrological services must approve their competence in order to be recognized on the service market. In addition to the implementation of relevant standards, it is necessary to pay special attention to the relevant bodies through which metrology laboratories confirm their competences, i.e. to the international status of these bodies in the recognition and confirmation of measurement results and issued certificates. Regardless of whether they are metrology organizations, international or regional or on accreditation bodies, their members sign certain agreements through which their users can use measured results and certificates issued by these laboratories without barriers. On the basis of international agreements and declarations between international organizations, mutual recognition of measurement results and issued certificates is possible. The paper was prepared based on the experiences of the Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a national metrology institute on its way to proving and confirming its competence and recognition at the international level and has the aim of giving an overview of international quality infrastructure organizations and their role in this process.

Railway transport plays an important role in the transportation system around the world. Freight rail transport represents the main kind of transport of goods and commodities in many countries. Reliable and safe rail transport needs such transport means, i.e. freight wagons, which allow to transport goods in various forms. While there are many types of freight wagons, they are usually equipped with limited types of bogies. The Y25 bogie is the most widely used bogie in the Central and Eastern Europe. This bogie has own specifics for which it has been used in freight wagons for several decades. The presented research is focused on the assessment of dynamic response of the freight wagon under the specific operational conditions. The freight wagon dynamics is investigated by means of a multibody model created in a commercial simulation software. Waveforms of the vertical and lateral wheel forces and the derailment quotient have been chosen as the main output quantities. The research has shown that the operational conditions influence the dynamic response of a freight wagon.

The probability of detection (POD) of material defects by non-destructive testing (NDT) is an important input in the risk assessment of aeroengine life-limited parts. Obtaining a POD curve generally requires many assay experiments. To improve the efficiency, based on model-assisted POD (MAPOD) theory, a method to obtain ultrasonic inspection (UT) of POD was developed with the finite element method and reflectance theory as physical models. The method can consider the influence of physical factors in the inspection, which are input as variables in the finite element model. The pressure curve obtained from the finite element model was processed to obtain the signal response distribution, and the POD curve was calculated from the distribution. The method exploits the ability of finite elements to deal with defects of different shapes, while reflectivity theory avoids repeated calculations for defects with different material properties. In this paper, the process of obtaining POD curves by this method is illustrated in the example of hard a material defects in TC4 alloy, where the defect orientation and nitrogen content are used as physical influencing factors. This method assists in reducing the number of experiments and time spent on the acquisition of POD.

The simulation model parameters were calibrated based on the results of the perforation experiments, enabling a numerical simulation study of double-layer spacer steel targets subjected to normal/oblique perforation by composite projectile. A comparison and analysis of the perforation process between composite projectiles and single projectiles was conducted, revealing the deformation and failure process of the cap. Additionally, the perforation process and ballistic characteristics of composite projectiles were obtained. The results indicate that there is minimal ballistic deflection, stable projectile attitude, high storage speed, and low overload when the projectile perforates the double-layer spacer plate at high velocity using a composite structure. The cap deforms to protect the head of the main stage, significantly reducing changes in attitude angle and maintaining projectile stability behind the target. Compared to single projectiles, composite projectiles can maintain the attitude stability regardless of whether with an angle of attack when perforating a plate.

The paper presents the technological possibilities and quality assessment of copper recovered from post-cable waste from end-of-life motor vehicles. Copper alloys, used for the production of electrically conductive conductors, were recycled. The copper fraction, separated by eddy currents from the polymer fraction, was tested. In order to determine the purity of the copper alloy obtained in the recycling process, the raw material was subjected to melting in a resistance furnace. Then the chemical composition of the recycled raw material was analyzed using a spectroscopic method, which determines the quality of the alloys, including mechanical and technological characteristics and the possibility of their reuse in foundries. The liquidus and solidus temperatures of the melted copper alloy were determined on the basis of the cooling curve by the Differential Thermal Analysis method (ATD). The tests were extended to the study of the material's microstructure, which was carried out on metallographic scrap to determine phase separations. Finally, the proportion of recovered copper alloy with a main element concentration of 98.78%, the weight of the scrap and the loss of material relative to the weight of the charge were determined.

Low-density foamed cement can address formation leakage issues during cement displacement. The mechanical method is the priority approach for on-site foamed cement slurry preparation, and foamed cement generator serves as the pivotal component, which determines the fast and efficient performance of foamed cement preparation. Based on CFD numerical simulation, the average density across the pipe section downstream of the foamed cement generator and the density variations along different axes in the flow direction were compared to assess the uniformity and efficiency of foamed cement preparation. The distribution of pressure field and flow field downstream of foamed cement generator were compared to evaluate pressure lose and turbulence intensity during multi-phase fluid mixing. The results indicate that lower injection pressure leads to a shorter mixing distance between gas and cement-based slurry and better mixing result. Higher foamed cement flow rates correspond to increased turbulence intensity in mixing gas and cement-based slurry, resulting in faster and more uniform mixing. The SK-static mixer is utilized downstream to enhance turbulence intensity of the flow field. Although this increased pressure loss to a certain extent, it significantly improved the uniformity of foamed cement mixing. Evaluating the slurry preparation performance of the foamed cement generator can guide optimal generator design and achieve efficient preparation of uniform and stable foamed cement with a high flow rate.
