In the proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer, the anode porous transport layer (PTL) plays an important role in water/oxygen transport. In this paper, an experimental platform for the in-situ visualization of the anode PTL is designed. Furthermore, in-situ observation of bubble behavior is carried out for three different types of PTL with different structural parameters. It is indicated that there is a significant in-plane diffusion of water/oxygen transport at the interface between the PTL and catalyst layer (CL) as well as within the PTL bulk. The optimal pathway for water and oxygen transport in the PTL is related to the tortuosity of the PTL. And the local tortuosity of the PTL can be changed by laser pre-deposition of the through-hole. The water and oxygen transport characteristic of the Ti-Powder PTL is directly related to the pore diameter. At low porosity, the PTL with a pore diameter of 5 mu m has lower mass transport losses due to the high density and uniform distribution of small pores, which is more favorable for the construction of the anode reaction interface. Finally, the bubble behavior and electrochemical performance of ordered PTL Ti-Mesh are tested. It is concluded that the performance of the Ti-Mesh PTL with 27% porosity is close to the Ti-Fiber PTL with 75% porosity, and it can reduce the cost of PTL by 62.5% with little difference in performance.

Conferences are incredible opportunities to strengthen the inclusive outlook of our scientific community. The participation of female scientists, postdocs, and graduate students in the ATTO VIII conference was remarkable, with more than 40% of female invited speakers. The Local Organizing Committee seized this oppor tunity to promote an atmosphere that welcomes all. An entirely female evening panel, with experience across the attosecond science spectrum, was convened to explore the Future of Attosecond Science in the evening session of Wednesday, July 13. Furthermore, a booklet entitled Perspectives in Attosecond Science was compiled by Dr. Shima Gholam-Mirzaei of the University of Ottawa and ATTO co-chairs Luca Argenti and Michael Chini, in collaboration with members of the Local Organizing Committee and others, which included interviews with female scientists at all career levels and which was included in the conference materials. The text has been minimally edited to improve clarity and readability.

Details on the development and characterization of a discretely tunable GaSb/Si3N4 hybrid multiwavelength laser are presented. The integrated laser combines a GaSb-based reflective semiconductor amplifier with a novel Si3N4 circuit. The Si3N4 is comprised of two Mach-Zehnder interferometers interconnected with three thermally tunable distributed Bragg reflectors to form a discretely tunable hybrid laser. It showcases discrete emission at 2670.42 nm, 2629.12 nm, and 2594.27 nm wavelengths, with maximum average output powers of 2.8 mA at 480 mA, 5 mW at 410 mA, and 3.3 mW at 495 mA, respectively. The unique characteristics of the hybrid laser are appealing for multiwavelength absorption spectroscopy of H2S, CO2 and H2O.

The input current ripple of interleaved floating dual boost converter (IFDBC) for fuel cell vehicle is large, making it difficult to meet the requirements of fuel cells. To solve this problem, a current-fed IFDBC with dc inductor on dc output is proposed in this paper. Compared to existing IFDBCs, the proposed converter can not only suppress the input and output current ripple but also offer lower switch stress, and better efficiency. The modulation strategy and operation modes of the converter are described in detail. In addition, to control the output power of the converter and balance the power of the submodule, a double closed-loop control strategy with input current feedback and inductor current of each submodule feedback is analyzed. Simulation results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed topology and control approach.

The cornerstone assumption of equilibrium of the small and intermediate scales in the classical view of turbulence (K41-the combined efforts of Kolmogorov, Batchelor and Richardson) is under ever increased scrutiny. Although the K41 based models do appear to apply well to some flows, there exist many important flows that are problematic for these turbulence models. In particular, it is interesting to note that the most challenging applications appear to have one thing in common-rapid changes of the flow in the mean in time and/or space. It is thus interesting to systematically investigate what the bounds of validity of the classical K41-view of turbulence are, if any. And if the K41-picture of turbulence does indeed break down, what are the nonlinear spectral energy transfer mechanisms that lead to non-equilibrium turbulence behavior (local vs. non-local)? Does the non-linear energy exchange between scales divert from the classically assumed Richardson cascade? And is the constancy of the spectral flux across the inertial range interrupted? In order to answer these questions, a new facility for the systematic study of non-equilibrium turbulence in a controlled setting has been established along with an accompanying theoretical framework that is tailored for addressing these specific issues.

A method based on multichannel quantum defect theory (MQDT) for the treatment of perturbative and time resolved photoionization in pump probe experiments is presented. Following an introduction to the theory, examples in two regimes of argon are presented. The theory successfully describes the energy distribution and the dependence on probe delay of the photoionization spectrum. We finalize with a discussion about angular distributions and possible further applications of the method.

We introduce a silicon squeezer designed for high levels of squeezing and compatibility with state-of-the-art integrated balanced detection systems. Our approach combines linear elements, such as dispersion control and cavity design, with the strategic selection of pump parameters to enhance nonlinear performance. To optimize signal confinement and reduce phase mismatches in four-wave mixing (FWM), we meticulously adjust the waveguide dimensions, cladding materials, bend radii, and directional coupler settings. This comprehensive strategy is aimed at minimizing FWM discrepancies and ensuring effective signal confinement, demonstrating our commitment to addressing the complexities of high-performance squeezing in silicon platforms.

Based on Fresnel propagation approximation, analytical equations of Talbot (also called grating-based) interferometry are deduced. Preliminary simulations are thus conducted as to the x-ray imaging of homogeneous cylindrically symmetric over-dense plasma with Talbot interferometry, showing the potential capability to retrieve the density profile of over-dense plasma with high sensitivity. The main concerns of practical x-ray Talbot interferometry in the field of high energy density plasma are shortly introduced.

The green hydrogen production system powered by renewable sources is expected to become an important way to decarbonize for the energy, chemical and other industries. The flexibility of the electrolysis system has the potential to alleviate the grid frequency deterioration caused by the integration of large-scale intermittent and fluctuating renewable energy. Considering the power-electronics interface, this paper models the components of the grid-connected PV-Hydrogen system. According to the dynamic behaviors of the joint system, the control method suitable for providing secondary frequency regulation (SFR) is proposed. This paper demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed controller in a 20 kW photovoltaic (PV) system and a 2 Nm(3)/h alkaline electrolysis (AEL) system located in Chengdu, China. The simulation and experimental results show that the speed and accuracy of the PV-Hydrogen system with the controller proposed are sufficient to provide SFR.

This work presents novel photo-thermal plasmonic sensors as inline quasi-transparent candidates for optical detection and control of photonic integrated circuits. The good sensitivity and resolution proved them successful in the stabilization of photonic devices against external perturbations. Thanks to their sub-wavelength dimensions and simple fabrication, these sensors are attractive in any platform, offering a solution for technologies that do not feature active optoelectronics.
