This book approaches Location Based Mobile Games from a design perspective, investigating the peculiar traits that make themcompelling contemporary practices and challenging fields of investigation. Relying on an interdisciplinary theoretical background and empirical studies,it delves into LBMGs intertwining theoretical assumptions and describes their translation into practice. The authors examine these games from different perspectives, exploring how they can impact the way we look at our surroundings, their influence on our social dimension, their ability to translate a wide range of information into a game experience, and the negotiations they activate by intertwining two realities. Each issue is addressed from a twofold perspective: that of the designers who craft the games, and that of the users who interpret the designers choices and take part in the game experience. In so doing, the book covers the relationship between processes of designing and playing, investigating games that communicate through meaningful interactions, share perspectives as forms of narratives, and integrate physicality and surroundings in the play activity. The reasoning advanced throughout the chapters will benefit researchers, designers and entrepreneurs in the field, as it provides a novel perspective on LBMGs, seeks to increase designers awareness of often-neglected issues, and suggests interpretations and practices that can impact how commercial games are designed.

This book addresses synchronization in networks of coupled systems. It illustrates the main aspects of the phenomenon through concise theoretical results and code, allowing readers to reproduce them and encouraging readers to pursue their own experimentation. The book begins by introducing the mathematical representation of nonlinear circuits and the code for their simulation. This is followed by a brief account of the concept of the complex network, which describes the main aspects of complex networks and the main model types, with a particular focus on the code used to study and reproduce the models. The focus then shifts to the process through which independent nonlinear circuits that follow different trajectories without coupling share some properties of their motion: synchronization. The authors present the main techniques for studying synchronization in complex networks, including the major measures, the stability properties and control techniques. The book then moves on to advanced topics in synchronization of complex networks by examining forms of synchronization in which not all the units share the same trajectory, namely chimera states, clustering synchronization, and relay and remote synchronization. Simple codes for experimentation with these topics and control methods are also provided. In closing, the book addresses the problem of synchronization in time-varying networks.
