This SpringerBrief presents intelligent spectrum sharing technologies for future wireless communication systems. It explains the widely used opportunistic spectrum access and TV white space sharing, which has been approved by the FCC. Four new technologies to significantly increase the efficiency of spectrum sharing are also introduced. The four technologies presented are Dynamic Spectrum Co-Access, Incentivized Cooperative Spectrum Sharing, On-Demand Spectrum Sharing and Licensed Shared Spectrum Access. These technologies shed light on future wireless communication systems and pave the way for innovative spectrum sharing with increased spectrum utilization. Increased utilization will allow networks to meet the demand for radio spectrum and promote the growth of wireless industry and national economy. Spectrum Sharing is a valuable resource for researchers and professionals working in wireless communications. Advanced-level students in electricalengineering and computer science will also find this content helpful as a study guide.

This book discusses the contribution of excitation source information in discriminating language. The authors focus on the excitation source component of speech for enhancement of language identification (LID) performance. Language specific features are extracted using two different modes: (i) Implicit processing of linear prediction (LP) residual and (ii) Explicit parameterization of linear prediction residual. The book discusses how in implicit processing approach, excitation source features are derived from LP residual, Hilbert envelope (magnitude) of LP residual and Phase of LP residual; and in explicit parameterization approach, LP residual signal is processed in spectral domain to extract the relevant language specific features. The authors further extract source features from these modes, which are combined for enhancing the performance of LID systems. The proposed excitation source features are also investigated for LID in background noisy environments. Each chapter of this book provides the motivation for exploring the specific feature for LID task, and subsequently discuss the methods to extract those features and finally suggest appropriate models to capture the language specific knowledge from the proposed features. Finally, the book discuss about various combinations of spectral and source features, and the desired models to enhance the performance of LID systems.

This book introduces the reader to the MIMO-OFDM system, in Rayleigh frequency selective-channels. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has been adopted in the wireless local-area network standards IEEE 802.11a due to its high spectral efficiency and ability to deal with frequency selective fading. The combination of OFDM with spectral efficient multiple antenna techniques makes the OFDM a good candidate to overcome the frequency selective problems.

This book presents a survey of the state-of-the art in the exciting and timely topic of compressed sensing for distributed systems. It has to be noted that, while compressed sensing has been studied for some time now, its distributed applications are relatively new. Remarkably, such applications are ideally suited to exploit all the benefits that compressed sensing can provide. The objective of this book is to provide the reader with a comprehensive survey of this topic, from the basic concepts to different classes of centralized and distributed reconstruction algorithms, as well as a comparison of these techniques. This book collects different contributions on these aspects. It presents the underlying theory in a complete and unified way for the first time, presenting various signal models and their use cases. It contains a theoretical part collecting latest results in rate-distortion analysis of distributed compressed sensing, as well as practical implementations of algorithms obtaining performance close to the theoretical bounds. It presents and discusses various distributed reconstruction algorithms, summarizing the theoretical reconstruction guarantees and providing a comparative analysis of their performance and complexity. In summary, this book will allow the reader to get started in the field of distributed compressed sensing from theory to practice. We believe that this book can find a broad audience among researchers, scientists, or engineers with very diverse backgrounds, having interests in mathematical optimization, network systems, graph theoretical methods, linear systems, stochastic systems, and randomized algorithms. To help the reader become familiar with the theory and algorithms presented, accompanying software is made available on the authors web site, implementing several of the algorithms described in the book. The only background required of the reader is a good knowledge of advanced calculus and linear algebra.

This SpringerBrief presents interference coordination techniques for future 5G cellular networks. Starting with an overview of existing interference management techniques, it focuses on practical interference coordination schemes based on beamforming and user scheduling. The proposed schemes aim to deal with the inter-cell interference in multi-cell MIMO networks, cross-tier interference in device-to-device communications underlaying cellular network, and inter-network interference in cognitive radio networks. The performances of the proposed schemes are evaluated both analytically and numerically in terms of several performance parameters, including the sum rate, multiplexing gain, and outage probability of the networks. The results show that the proposed schemes can significantly reduce the effect of interference and improve the quality of service of the networks. Interference Coordination for 5G Cellular Networks is suitable for researchers and advanced students interested in interference coordination or 5G cellular networks.
