This book offers an introduction to fuzzy sets theory and their operations, with a special focus on aggregation and negation functions. Particular attention is given to interval-valued fuzzy sets and Atanassov’s intuitionistic fuzzy sets and their use in uncertainty models involving imperfect or unknown information. The theory and application of interval-values fuzzy sets to various decision making problems represent the central core of this book, which describes in detail aggregation operators and their use with imprecise data represented as intervals. Interval-valued fuzzy relations, compatibility measures of interval and the transitivity property are thoroughly covered. With its good balance between theoretical considerations and applications of originally developed algorithms to real-world problem, the book offers a timely, inspiring guide to mathematicians and engineers developing new decision making models or implementing/applying existing ones to a wide range of applications involving imprecise or incomplete data.

It is necessary to practice methodological doubt, like Descartes, in - der to loosen the hold of mental habits; and it is necessary to cultivate logical imagination, in order to have a number of hypotheses at c- mand, and not to be the slave of the one which common sense has r- dered easy to imagine. These two processes, of doubting the familiar and imagining the unfamiliar, are corrective, and form the chief part of the mental training required for a philosopher. Bertrand Russell At every stage and in all circumstances knowledge is incomplete and provisional, conditioned and limited by the historical circumstances under which it was acquired, including the means and methods used for gaining it and the historically conditioned assumptions and categories used in the formulation of ideas and conclusions. Maurice Cornforth This monograph is the second in the series of meta-theoretic analysis of fuzzy paradigm and its contribution and possible contribution to formal reasoning in order to free the knowledge production process from the ridge frame of the classical paradigm that makes its application to soft and inexact sciences d- ficult or irrelevant. The work in the previous monograph was strictly devoted to problems of theory of knowledge and critique of classical, bounded and other rationalities in decision-choice processes regarding the principles of verification, falsification or corroboration in knowledge production. This monograph deals mostly with epistemic decision-choice models and theories and how they are related to both the classical and fuzzy paradigms.

We describe in this book, new methods for building intelligent systems using type-2 fuzzy logic and softcomputing techniques. softcomputing (SC) consists of several computing paradigms, including type-1 fuzzy logic, neural networks, and genetic algorithms, which can be used to create powerful hybrid intelligent systems. In this book, we are extending the use of fuzzy logic to a higher order, which is called type-2 fuzzy logic. Combining type-2 fuzzy logic with traditional SC techniques, we can build powerful hybrid intelligent systems that can use the advantages that each te- nique offers. We consider in this book the use of type-2 fuzzy logic and traditional SC techniques to solve pattern recognition problems in real-world applications. We c- sider in particular the problems of face, fingerprint and voice recognition. We also consider the problem of recognizing a person by integrating the information given by the face, fingerprint and voice of the person. Other types of applications solved with type-2 fuzzy logic and SC techniques, include intelligent control, intelligent manuf- turing, and adaptive noise cancellation. This book is intended to be a major reference for scientists and engineers interested in applying type-2 fuzzy logic for solving problems in pattern recognition, intelligent control, intelligent manufacturing, robotics and automation.

This book examines some issues involving climate change, human trafficking, and other serious world challenges made worse by climate change. Climate change increases the risk of natural disasters and thus creates poverty and can cause situations of conflict and instability. Displacement can occur giving traffickers an opportunity to exploit affected people.;In the fuzzy graph theory part of the book, the relatively new concepts of fuzzy soft semigraphs and graph structures are used to study human trafficking, as well as its time intuitionistic fuzzy sets that have been introduced to model forest fires. The notion of legal and illegal incidence strength is used to analyze immigration to the USA. The examination of return refugees to their origin countries is undertaken. The neighborhood connectivity index is determined for trafficking in various regions in the world. The cycle connectivity measure for the directed graph of the flow from South Americato the USA is calculated. It is determined that there is a need for improvement in government response by countries.;Outside the area of fuzzy graph theory, a new approach to examine climate change is introduced. Social network theory is used to study feedback processes that effect climate forcing. Tipping points in climate change are considered. The relationship between terrorism and climate change is examined. Ethical issues concerning the obligation of business organizations to reduce carbon emissions are also considered.;Nonstandard analysis is a possible new area that could be used by scholars of mathematics of uncertainty. A foundation is laid to aid the researcher in the understanding of nonstandard analysis. In order to accomplish this, a discussion of some basic concepts from first-order logic is presented as some concepts of mathematics of uncertainty. An application to the theory of relativity is presented.

In Part I, the impact of an integro-differential operator on parity logic engines (PLEs) as a tool for scientific modeling from scratch is presented. Part II outlines the fuzzy structural modeling approach for building new linear and nonlinear dynamical causal forecasting systems in terms of fuzzy cognitive maps (FCMs). Part III introduces the new type of autogenetic algorithms (AGAs) to the field of evolutionary computing. Altogether, these PLEs, FCMs, and AGAs may serve as conceptual and computational power tools.

Clustering has been around for many decades and located itself in a uniquepositionasafundamentalconceptualandalgorithmiclandmark of data analysis. Almost since the very inception of fuzzy sets, the role and potential of these information granules in revealing and describing *** of fact, with the rapid growth of volumes of digital information, the role of clustering becomes even more visible and critical. Furthermore given the anticipated human centricity of the majority of artifacts of digitaleraandacontinuousbuildupofmountainsofdata, onebecomes fully cognizant of the growing role and an enormous potential of fuzzy sets and granular computing in the design of intelligent systems. In therecentyearsclusteringhasundergoneasubstantialmetamorphosis. Frombeinganexclusivelydata drivenpursuit, ithastransformeditself into a vehicle whose data centricity has been substantially augmented by the incorporation of domain knowledge thus giving rise to the next generation of knowledge-oriented and collaborative clustering. Interestingly enough, fuzzy clustering exhibits a dominant role in many developments of the technology of fuzzy sets including fuzzy modeling, fuzzy control, data mining, pattern recognition, and image processing. When browsing through numerous papers on fuzzy m- eling we can witness an important trend of a substantial reliance on fuzzy clustering being regarded as the general development tool. The same central position of fuzzy clustering becomes visible in pattern classi?ers and neurofuzzy systems. All in all, it becomes evident that further progress in fuzzy clustering is of vital relevance and bene?t to the overall progress of the area of fuzzy sets and their applications.

Doing research is a great adventure As any adventure sometimes it is hard You may feel alone and with no idea where to go But if you have courage and press onwards You will eventually stand where no one has stood And see the world as no one has seen it There can be no better feeling than this! Adaptation from ‘Introduction to Research’, Tom Addis (2004) The idea about this book has been on the author’s mind for almost a decade but it was only about a couple of years ago when the underlying research process was actually started. The reason for this delay has been the insufficient spare time for research being a lecturer in a ‘new’ UK university where the emphasis is mainly on teaching. And maybe this book would have never been written if the author had not been presented with the chance of developing new teaching modules in fuzzy logic that have given him food for thought in a research related context and have helped him combine efficiently his teaching and research activities. The title of this book may sound too specialised but it has a much wider meaning. Fuzzy systems are any systems for modelling, simulation, control, prediction, diagnosis, decision making, pattern recognition, image processing, etc. which use fuzzy logic. Although fuzzy logic is an advanced extension of binary logic, the latter is still used predominantly today.
