From the Publisher: Optical WDM networking technology is spearheading a bandwidth revolution in the networking infrastructure being developed for the next generation Internet. Rapid advances in optical components have enabled the transition from point-to-point WDM links to all-optical networking. Optical WDM Networks: Principles and Practice presents some of the most important challenges facing the optical networking community, along with some suggested solutions. Earlier textbooks in optical networking have a narrower perspective, and rapidly advancing research has created the need for fresh and current information on problems and issues in the field. The volume editors and contributing authors have endeavoured to capture a substantial subset of the key problems and known solutions to these problems. All of the chapters are original contributions from leading international researchers. The chapters address a wide variety of topics, including the state of the art in WDM technology, physical components that make up WDM fiber-optic networks, medium access protocols, wavelength routed networks, optical access networks, network management, and performance evaluation of wavelength routing networks. The chapters also survey critical points in past research and tackle more recent problems. Practitioners and network product engineers interested in current state-of-the-art information beyond textbook-type coverage, and graduate students commencing research in this area, will appreciate the concise — and pertinent — information presented herein.

Flexible Neuro-Fuzzy Systems is the first professional literature about the new class of powerful, flexible fuzzy systems. The author incorporates various flexibility parameters to the construction of neuro-fuzzy systems. This approach dramatically improves their performance, allowing the systems to perfectly represent the pattern encoded in data. Flexible Neuro-Fuzzy Systems is the only book that proposes a flexible approach to fuzzy modeling and fills the gap in existing literature. This book introduces new fuzzy systems which outperform previous approaches to system modeling and classification, and has the following features: -Provides a framework for unification, construction and development of neuro-fuzzy systems; -Presents complete algorithms in a systematic and structured fashion, facilitating understanding and implementation, -Covers not only advanced topics but also fundamentals of fuzzy sets, -Includes problems and exercises following each chapter, -Illustrates the results on a wide variety of simulations, -Provides tools for possible applications in business and economics, medicine and bioengineering, automatic control, robotics and civil engineering. Flexible Neuro-Fuzzy Systems is designed for a professional audience composed of researchers and practitioners in industry. This book is also suitable as a secondary text for graduate-level students in computerscience and engineering.

Operational Amplifier Speed and Accuracy Improvement proposes a new methodology for the design of analog integrated circuits. The usefulness of this methodology is demonstrated through the design of an operational amplifier. This methodology consists of the following iterative steps: description of the circuit functionality at a high level of abstraction using signal flow graphs; equivalent transformations and modifications of the graph to the form where all important parameters are controlled by dedicated feedback loops; and implementation of the structure using a library of elementary cells. Operational Amplifier Speed and Accuracy Improvement shows how to choose structures and design circuits which improve an operational amplifier's important parameters such as speed to power ratio, open loop gain, common-mode voltage rejection ratio, and power supply rejection ratio. The same approach is used to design clamps and limiting circuits which improve the performance of the amplifier outside of its linear operating region, such as slew rate enhancement, output short circuit current limitation, and input overload recovery.

Design and Analysis of High Efficiency Line Drivers for xDSL covers the most important building block of an xDSL (ADSL, VDSL, ...) system: the line driver. Traditional Class AB line drivers consume more than 70% of the total power budget of state-of-the-art ADSL modems. This book describes the main difficulties in designing line drivers for xDSL. The most important specifications are elaborated staring from the main properties of the channel and the signal properties. The traditional (class AB), state-of-the-art (class G) and future technologies (class K) are discussed. The main part of Design and Analysis of High Efficiency Line Drivers for xDSL describes the design of a novel architecture: the Self-Oscillating Power Amplifier or SOPA. This architecture uses a non-linear, asynchronous modulation scheme that enables highly efficient, highly linear transmission. The concept has been proven by two implementations in a digital CMOS technology: a G-Lite compliant line driver with 61% efficiency and a full ADSL-VDSL downstream compliant power amplifier with 47% power efficiency. The proposed architecture is fully analysed and complete design plans including CMOS scaling laws and software tools to facilitate the design of these types of amplifiers are extensively described. Since the analysis of a SOPA amplifier involves advanced non-linear system design techniques, Design and Analysis of High Efficiency Line Drivers for xDSL presents extensively advanced non-linear analysis techniques which not only aid the design of high efficiency line drivers but are also applicable in other domains of analog system design. Therefore Design and Analysis of High Efficiency Line Drivers for xDSL can be read not only as an exhaustive tutorial on the basic properties and limitations of an xDSL line driver, but also as a tutorial on advanced non-linear system design and a design manual of a highly efficient switching power amplifier.
