Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) experience a growing popularity recently. Where WLANs were primarily used for niche applications in the past, they are now deployed as wireless extensions to computer networks. The increase of the datarates from 2 Mbps up to 11 Mbps for roughly a constant price has played a major role in this breakthrough. As a consequence, an even greater success can be envisioned for the more recent OFDM-based WLAN standards in the 5 GHz band, which offer up to 54 Mbps. At IMEC we have realised this potential already several years ago and have established a successful research programme on OF- based WLAN. In 1995, we started our research on wireless OFDM in the frame of a - operation project with SAIT, a Belgian telecom company. The goal of the project was to establish a robust network for industrial environments. This resulted in a first OFDM chip, supporting QPSK, for wireless networking at the end of the project (1999). 1999 was also the start of an intense co-operation with National Semiconductor Inc., which resulted in a second generation ASIC in 2000. This OFDM processor supports up to QAM-64 and has a more optimal channel estimation algorithm.

From the Publisher: Verilog™ Quickstart , Second Edition, has been revised and updated in accordance with the new IEEE 1364-1999 standard, much of which applies to synthesizable Verilog. New examples have been included as well as additional material added throughout. Verilog™ Quickstart , Second Edition, focuses on the most commonly used elements of the Verilog Hardware Description Language used by designers for simulation and synthesis of ASICS and FPGAs. This book makes learning Verilog easy by following a well proven approach used in the author's classes for many years. Verilog™ Quickstart , Second Edition, is a basic, practical, introductory textbook for professionals and students alike. This book explains how a designer can be more effective through the use of the Verilog Hardware Description Language to simulate and document a design. Verilog™ Quickstart , Second Edition, presents some of the formal Verilog syntax and definitions and then shows practical uses. This book does not oversimplify the Verilog language nor does it emphasize theory. Verilog™ Quickstart , Second Edition, has over 100 examples that are used to illustrate aspects of the language. The later chapters focus on working with modeling style and explaining why and when one would use different elements of the language. Another feature of the book is the chapter on state machine modeling. There is a chapter on test benches and testing strategy as well as a chapter on debugging. Verilog™ Quickstart , Second Edition, is designed to teach the Verilog language, to show the designer how to model in Verilog and to explain the basics of using Verilog simulators. Theaccompanying disk contains over 100 runable Verilog examples from the book.

Fundamentals of Codes, Graphs, and Iterative Decoding contains need-to-know information for both professionals and academicians working in the field of communications. Fifty years of learning how to design good codes can now be reduced to a single sentence: Good codes have a high degree of local connectivity, but must have simple structural descriptions to facilitate iterative decoding. Fundamentals of Codes, Graphs, and Iterative Decoding is an explanation of how to introduce local connectivity, and how to exploit simple structural descriptions. Chapter 1 provides an overview of Shannon theory and the basic tools of complexity theory, communication theory, and bounds on code construction. Chapters 2 - 4 provide an overview of 'classical' error control coding, with an introduction to abstract algebra, and block and convolutional codes. Chapters 5 - 9 then proceed to systematically develop the key research results of the 1990s and early 2000s with an introduction to graph theory, followed by chapters on algorithms on graphs, turbo error control, low density parity check codes, and low density generator codes. Fundamentals of Codes, Graphs, and Iterative Decoding is intended as a synthesis of recent research results with a recognition of where these results fit into the bigger picture of error control coding. Containing hundreds of theorems, proofs, and definitions, Fundamentals of Codes, Graphs, and Iterative Decoding is suitable for a graduate-level course in communications, as well as for a professional reference.

From the Publisher: The Verilog Programming Language Interface is a powerful feature of the Verilog standard. Through this interface, a Verilog simulator can be customized to perform virtually any engineering task desired, such as adding custom design debug utilities, adding proprietary file read/write utilities, and interfacing bus functional C language models to a simulator. This book serves as both a user's guide for learning the Verilog PLI, and as a comprehensive reference manual on the Verilog PLI standard. Both the TF/ACC ("PLI 1.0") and the VPI ("PLI 2.0") generations of the PLI are presented, based on the IEEE 1364 Verilog standard. The second edition of this book adds detailed coverage of the many enhancements added in the latest IEEE 1364-2001 Verilog standard ("Verilog-2001"). A CD is included, with the C source code, Verilog HDL test cases and simulation result logs for more than 75 complete PLI examples.
