From a review of the Second Edition; If you are new to the field and want to know what "all this Verilog stuff is about," you've found the golden goose. The text here is straight forward, complete, and example rich -mega-multi-kudos to the author James Lee. Though not as detailed as the Verilog reference guides from Cadence, it likewise doesn't suffer from the excessive abstractness those make you wade through. This is a quick and easy read, and will serve as a desktop reference for as long as Verilog lives. Best testimonial: I'm buying my fourth and fifth copies tonight (I've loaned out/lost two of my others).

presents the basic theoretical framework of crisp and fuzzy set theory, relating these concepts to control engineering based on the analogy between the Laplace transfer function of linear systems and the fuzzy relation of a nonlinear fuzzy system. Included are generic aspects of fuzzy systems with an emphasis on the many degrees of freedom and its practical design implications, modeling and systems identification techniques based on fuzzy rules, parametrized rules and relational equations, and the principles of adaptive fuzzy and neurofuzzy systems. Practical design aspects of fuzzy controllers are covered by the detailed treatment of fuzzy and neurofuzzy software design tools with an emphasis on iterative fuzzy tuning, while novel stability limit testing methods and the definition and practical examples of the new concept of collaborative control systems are also given. In addition, case studies of successful applications in industrial automation, process control, electric power technology, electric traction, traffic engineering, wastewater treatment, manufacturing, mineral processing and automotive engineering are also presented, in order to assist industrial control systems engineers in recognizing situations when fuzzy and neurofuzzy would offer certain advantages over traditional methods, particularly in controlling highly nonlinear and time-variant plants and processes.

The field of Digital Signal Processing has developed so fast in the last two decades that it can be found in the graduate and undergraduate programs of most universities. This development is related to the growing available techno logies for implementing digital signal processing algorithms. The tremendous growth of development in the digital signal processing area has turned some of its specialized areas into fields themselves. If accurate information of the signals to be processed is available, the designer can easily choose the most appropriate algorithm to process the signal. When dealing with signals whose statistical properties are unknown, fixed algorithms do not process these signals efficiently. The solution is to use an adaptive filter that automatically changes its characteristics by optimizing the internal parameters. The adaptive filtering algorithms are essential in many statistical signal processing applications. Although the field of adaptive signal processing has been subject of research for over three decades, it was in the eighties that a major growth occurred in research and applications. Two main reasons can be credited to this growth, the availability of implementation tools and the appearance of early textbooks exposing the subject in an organized form. Presently, there is still a lot of activities going on in the area of adaptive filtering. In spite of that, the theor etical development in the linear-adaptive-filtering area reached a maturity that justifies a text treating the various methods in a unified way, emphasizing the algorithms that work well in practical implementation.

describes the design and implementation of switched-current (SI) circuits with emphasis on signal processing and data-conversion applications. The work includes theoretical analysis, high-level and circuit-level simulation results as well as measurement results from a few of the author's circuit implementations. An extensive overview of the SI field of research is also given.;The book contains an extensive overview of the switched-current field of research, and can therefore be used as a quick-reference to the field. The description of each design example has been organized to describe the entire design flow from system level design and simulation, to circuit simulation, layout and measurement as accurately as possible. Thus it is possible to follow each step in the design process.;is an invaluable reference for researchers and circuit designers working with one-chip mixed-signal system solutions, and low-voltage analog CMOS design. It will also be appreciated by anyone requiring a quick overview of what has been done in the SI field.

Biological visual systems employ massively parallel processing to perform real-world visual tasks in real time. A key to this remarkable performance seems to be that biological systems construct representations of their visual image data at multiple scales.;describes a multiscale, or `pyramid', approach to vision, including its theoretical foundations, a set of pyramid-based modules for image processing, object detection, texture discrimination, contour detection and processing, feature detection and description, and motion detection and tracking. It also shows how these modules can be implemented very efficiently on hypercube-connected processor networks.;is intended for both students of vision and vision system designers; it provides a general approach to vision systems design as well as a set of robust, efficient vision modules.

This book examines computer architecture, computability theory, and the history of computers from the perspective of minimalist computing - a framework in which the instruction set consists of a single instruction. This approach is different than that taken in any other computer architecture text, and it is a bold step. The audience for this book is researchers, computer hardware engineers, software engineers, and systems engineers who are looking for a fresh, unique perspective on computer architecture. Upper division undergraduate students and early graduate students studying computer architecture, computer organization, or embedded systems will also find this book useful. A typical course title might be "Special Topics in computer Architecture." The organization ofthe book is as follows. First, the reasons for studying such an "esoteric" subject are given. Then, the history and evolution of instruction sets is studied with an emphasis on how modern computing has features ofone instruction computing. Also, previous computer systems are reviewed to show how their features relate to one instruction computers. Next, the primary forms of one instruction set computing are examined. The theories of computation and of Turing machines are also reviewed to examine the theoretical nature of one instruction computers. Other processor architectures and instruction sets are then mapped into single instructions to illustrate the features of both types of one instruction computers. In doing so, the features of the processor being mapped are highlighted.

presents a completely automated approach to generating abstractions for problem solving. The abstractions are generated using a tractable, domain-independent algorithm whose only inputs are the definition of a problem space and the problem to be solved and whose output is an abstraction hierarchy that is tailored to the particular problem. The algorithm generates abstraction hierarchies that satisfy the `ordered monotonicity' property, which guarantees that the structure of an abstract solution is not changed in the process of refining it. An abstraction hierarchy with this property allows a problem to be decomposed such that the solution in an abstract space can be held invariant while the remaining parts of a problem are solved. The algorithm for generating abstractions is implemented in a system called ALPINE, which generates abstractions for a hierarchical version of the PRODIGY problem solver.;formally defines this hierarchical problem solving method, shows that under certain assumptions this method can reduce the size of a search space from exponential to linear in the solution size, and describes the implementation of this method in PRODIGY. The abstractions generated by ALPINE are tested in multiple domains on large problem sets and are shown to produce shorter solutions with significantly less search than problem solving without using abstraction.;will be of interest to researchers in machine learning, planning and problem reformation.
