摘 要:Ethyl lactate is a biodegradable and non-toxic ester with market growth potential, being used in different fields of industry. In this work, aiming to reduce the production cost of this solvent, seeking to make it even more competitive in the market, two intensified process strategies were proposed and evaluated, with a reactive distillation column with or without vapor recompression, followed by an extractive distillation for the recovery and reuse of compounds present in the process. An optimization study in a black-box structure was developed using Aspen Plus and MATLAB®, in order to find a configuration for each structure with the minimum total annualized cost (TAC). As a result, an economically competitive structure was found, with a reactive distillation column followed by an extractive distillation process, which presented a reduction of around 43.27% in TAC when compared to the results reported in the literature. © 2024, The Authors.
