摘      要:Gas explosions in spherical vessels as a result of ignition at the centre have been studied in detail and equations successfully describing this system have been developed in the past. More complex systems, where the nature of the explosion is non-spherical, have received little attention, though these are systems of most practical interest. In this paper, general equations describing the pressure—time relationship during the explosion of flammable gases in closed vessels, independent of the vessel shape and of the point of ignition, are derived. These are then manipulated to give relationships for the particular cases of ‘spherical’ explosions, explosions in cylindrical vessels due to ignition at the centre, and explosions in cylindrical vessels due to ignition at one end. The solutions to these equations are presented in a manner suitable for hand calculations and the results are compared with experimental values. The applications of these equations to practical problems such as explosion venting and explosion suppression is then illustrated.
